The Great Outdoors
« on: October 05, 2019, 02:49:54 pm »
According to Better Homes and Gardens magazine, if you spend a minimum of 2 hours in the great outdoors every week it will boost your health.  Researchers found that people who made it outside to a park, green space, or leafy backyard for 2 hours or more each week were in better shape--physically and mentally--than those who didn't visit nature at all.  I can believe it because after I spend time with nature I generally feel refreshed!

I love being outdoors expect when it is below zero and look forward to my daily walks.  One with the dogs and after just with my spouse.  I always feel more calm after them

On this same topic (kind of), I was just reading that exposure of the skin to the sun (in moderation, of course) gives a person the vitamin D they need for healthy bones and teeth, support of the health of the immune system, brain, and nervous system, regulation of insulin levels and  diabetes management, support of lung function and cardiovascular health, and the expression of genes involved in cancer development (copied straight off of Medical News Today!) Who knew?  :peace:

This is perfect timing!  I have just started hiking every day at the trails around my home.  I feel great!

Yes, I like to spend time outdoors just walking, it is relaxing and good for health; really nice if you can be in an area without a lot of pollution!

I love being outside, we spend lots of time on the porches watching the deer and turkeys cross the road.

I wonder if this is still true if the weather is less than ideal. We've had a lot of rainy days lately. The last couple days were beautiful, and I spent as much time outside as possible. But we're back to a rainy streak again, and possibly snow this weekend. Does spending time out in the rain/snow have the same effect as spending time out in the sun?  ???

I love being outdoors, just don't seem to have enough time.  I work 10-12 hours a day at the office (usually 6 days a week).  Right now I go to work in the dark but after the time changes next month, I'll be going to work and home in the dark.  I'm dreading it already.
Have a wonderful day!

I love outdoors, watching the birds, the clouds in the sky etc.

I'm outside everyday...hiking, fishing, gardening, sitting on the deck, or whatever gets me out of the house.  I stay inside during bad weather.

I like being out in the sun or even only partly sunny.  I don't even mind snow too much but the rain is just depressing.

Sometimes all it takes is going outside and getting some fresh air to feel better, so I definitely believe that study is accurate.

I agree with this! Nature really does have a way of calming me down or making me feel at peace.

I am in and out   all day, get  plenty of excise  helping get  wood   split and cut. we did a cord Sa.  Was pretty sore for a day or so. But it is good for you.  Fishing once in a while  But it will get  cold soon and won't  do that.  Will find other  ways     to  keep busy besides my volunteer work which  keeps me on the go  2-4 times a week depending what we are doing.
