swear words
« on: October 06, 2019, 03:11:06 pm »
Does anyone have a word or words that they use instead of swear words when they're frustrated or angry?  :angel11: I'm thinking that fiddle-dee-dee, or Holy Cat or Holy Cow might be some good alternatives to yukky swear words; that is, if you'd rather not say them.

I've heard that swearing is done by people with a lack of vocabulary, but I have a decent vocabulary and can let loose some doozy swear words when I'm mad.

Thoughts?

I started watching The Good Place and whenever they try to swear in 'the good place', it's replaced with regular words, like fork or shirt. It was funny the first time I saw it, and since then I noticed I tend to replace words without thinking about it. I say fudge a lot - I think that was from A Christmas Story. Also rack-a-frackin - I have no idea where that one came from. LoL!

I think the frustrations of life make us feel the swear words fit the best at the time. But i also think if we strive to be better from cussing we can be.I know i have a problem giving in to it and then i feel foolish.Serves me right to feel that way.

The apostle Paul said he disliked preaching the good news and then still being a miserable sinner.Plus inheriting sin from A&E doesnt help and we fight against our own bodies.Thats when its a good time to ask God in prayer for his help.

I try not to swear but there are times when I can really let loose. When my grandkids are around I try to use alternatives like gosh darn.

Sometimes no matters how hard I try they come out....fast before I can stop them.  I always feel bad afterwards when that happens.

No I do not replace them, I try not to use them, but then I tend to swear in my native Spanish language, so if someone understand them then too bad.

BS (I'm not actually saying the word) and crap are the only alternatives for me.

:fish:

People who cuss are not going to say fiddle dee dee when they get angry or something goes wrong.

I have been arguing with a kid in Sunday School who says "dang it" all the time.  I have told him for the last time he is not to say that at least at church or in my class.  He said I can say what I want to.  I said "that's fine I will talk to your daddy" and he has not said it again.

I try not to say them but I am not a saint so sometimes they do come out but I have to be really angry for this to happen.  Also I always try to remember where I am and who is around at the time.

Why bother? Especially if you've seen any TV programs lately. They all uses the words except for the 'f' word and God prefix before other words. I'm positive they will in another year or two. I find it disgusting. They even say the s.o.a.b.. the 'p' word, the 'a' word, and the bodily functions words.  Those are all words that used to be censored/banned on these programs because of kids. Now they hear these words all the time without a thought. It's no wonder they're growing up without any morals in their language.

No idea what the P word is.  Not sure what the A word is either.  Yes there is cursing all over tv.  That doesn't mean I have to do it.  And they DO say the F word just as much on shows that cuss.  It depends on what you watch.
