Home DNA test
« on: October 19, 2019, 11:52:27 am »
Have you ever done an at home DNA test or considered it?  I want to do one although two pieces of information I want I believe I won't get.  I know there is American Indian in my heritage but I believe the test only confirms that but can't tell you what tribe.  The other is Scottish or Irish. I understand the test can tell you that one or the other is in your heritage but not which.  I still want to do the test though but waiting on my finances to improve a little.

Yes, I have too, but it's very expensive.

I am not sure how much stock I would put in these tests. I do know it has been proven they have been selling your info.  I personally would not do it.

I did Ancestry DNA.  No it doesn't tell you the tribe.  They go on sale every now and then.  I think I paid $79 for it a few years ago.

I have been considering it but haven't decided when to buy it yet.

I've thought about buying the Ancestry DNA kit before. The only reason I hesitate is because it is a little on the expensive side, more than I would be entirely comfortable to pay for such a thing. But also I'm afraid the results would be what I expect anyway, English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and possibly German (you know, plain vanilla European, LOL!)  :peace:

No, I never did it, Don t think I need to as all 4 of my grandparents came from Germany.  I do know it's expensive.

I've received two Ancestry DNA tests for free. The first one was a beta test when they first started doing the DNA thing. I got the second one for free when I signed up for ancestry again after cancelling for a while.

Your results become more detailed as more people get involved. My first beta test said my ancestors were from Europe. Well duh. I already knew that. But that was many years ago and my results have become more specific since then.

I've definitely considered it. The rest of my family has done it but I have yet to get one. I would be interested in it though.

I want to do an ancestry test but I don't really want the companies to profit from my DNA.
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

I Have not but I have thought about doing it. I think it would be neat, but I know some people did it and it didn't appear to be that accurate.
