Christmas Tree
« on: November 07, 2019, 04:51:45 am »
So I get up this morning and look out the window and notice my neighbor has put their Christmas tree up and has it lite up and flashing in their big picture window.  ;D

Two things came to my mind. lol  For some reason the first thing that hit me was the cry babies who have been on here belly aching because other people decorate their home, in their opinion, too early.  I have a friend that put his tree up almost 2 weeks ago.   :)

My 2nd thought was, it is suppose to rain today and be cold SO...  Guess what I am going to do in a little bit....
You guessed it.  Put up my Christmas decorations.  Although it takes me more than one day to get all my stuff up.  :) :)

We have been hit with two snow storms already (one more than usual for this time of the year) and I am still not on board with putting Christmas decorations up more than forty days before the holiday. I spend the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) putting up all of the exterior holiday decorations rather than waiting in long lines at the mall. I will spend several hours, two days later, putting up the interior Christmas decorations. I went to Qdoba yesterday and was so surprised that they were already playing Christmas music! I have not been to many stores but Costco and Krogers have not started putting up Christmas decorations yet. Even though my decorations go up in November I will not turn holiday lights on until two weeks before the actual Holiday and I will not turn them off until January 2nd of the following year.

Too each their own, but Christmas has become so commercial. Why put up Christmas decorations so early?  Christmas is suppose to be about the birth of Jesus, not how much light you put up.  I am happy I won't be paying your light bill. I'm just saying

Some people just love the Christmas season so I say if you want to put them up ... Enjoy

I usually wait a little bit but if I get a day where I have some extra time I may get the stuff out of the attic and start going thru it.

I use to always do that.  Then when I was working that weekend I started doing it earlier.  I can do it whenever now but it is only 7 weeks til Christmas.  I take it down the day after Christmas so I want to look at it for a while.

Well aren't you judgmental.  No you won't be paying my light bill.  And FYI my decorations do not make my electric bill higher.  Nor are my decorations INSIDE MY OWN HOME making Christmas commercial.

And you have no idea what my decorations are.  Maybe it is all manger scenes.   As for why put them up so early? Why not?  But thank you for proving my point.  That someone who does not even know me would be upset that "I" am already decorating MY home for the holiday season.  Several neighbors have already put up decorations.

I do.  This is my favorite time of year.  It is just the feel in the air.  For the most part people are just different.  Most in a good way.  And a few who are negative and want to scream and yell at people who celebrate the holidays. But if it makes them feel better to be a scrounge the OK.  :D

It is not that long til Christmas and I put a lot of stuff out so I want to be able to enjoy it for a while.

We are usually late getting ours up - it all depends on when we have a free weekend without other pressing things to do.

But just curious when you say you "want to look at it for a while". Have you considered not taking it down the day after Christmas and extending the time in that direction? I'm not looking to get into any religious debates, but taking it in that direction; Christmas preparation starts with the four weeks of Advent before Christmas, and the Christmas season runs through the Epiphany when the three kings arrived with gifts.

I usually try to convince my wife to leave the tree up until at least the 6th of January or later. It doesn't bother me to hear Christmas songs on the radio before the Halloween candy is put away, but I am often sad to see them all go away so fast after Christmas when we are technically still celebrating the season.

Don't really know what Advent is.  I have always heard it and thought it was something to do with Catholics. Not something I have ever observed.  No, I don't usually want to leave the tree and stuff up after Christmas.  When it is over I am ready to take it down and get the house cleaned up.  I like to start the new year off with a spiffy clean house.  And unlike others on here no I am not going to debate religion with you.  I can respect others views. lol

I do usually leave wreaths up til after the first of the year.  But by the 2nd or so I take them down as well.  And truth be known it is usually February before ALL the decorations get put up because there is always something hidden I don't notice. haha

If I were married to someone who wanted to leave the tree up a week after Christmas I probably would do it. I would not fight about it.  I have heard Christmas music in a couple stores already.  Also heard people complaining about it.  I do get what you are saying about everything going away so fast.  I wish we could keep the feel of Christmas all year round. :D

I'm in favor of everyone putting up their stuff whenever they want to. Life is too short, you should do things when you're excited about them. Sometimes I do Halloweeny things on some random day in May because I just feel like it so I'm not one to judge about early Christmas lol.

Personally I like Thanksgiving and its decor too much to skip over it and go straight to Christmas stuff so I will be waiting until after that.

While not exclusive to the Catholic church, it is probably most strongly associated with us. I do believe that some/many other Christian churches observe it in some way, but being a cradle Catholic, I can't really say with absolute certainty how many do and in what capacity they do.

In a watered down nutshell, Advent takes place over the four Sundays prior to December 25 and uses that time to prepare for the celebration of Jesus' birth. The word Advent comes from the Latin word for "coming".

I usually have some of both out.  My neighbor across the street put Halloween stuff out in August.  So there ya go.

I did google.  I am busy with other things and I will look at it more in a little bit. It did say it was associated with the Christian church.  I know it has never been a part of any church I have went to.  That is why I thought maybe it was Catholic.  I have seen it on Catholic pins on Pinterest.  I will def look in to it in a little bit.
