I am still in shock
« on: November 08, 2019, 10:23:08 am »
LOL I actually cooked yesterday. I am proud of myself - really haven't cooked to speak of in quite some time but our circumstances have changed and I need to start saving some money and cooking.  I made a pot of chili and now we have left overs for today.  Most of my expertise is cooking for a larger family now with only me and my son I need to be careful not to throw away food.  Do you cook?  Any of you cook just for one or two?

There is just 2 of us here so I don't cook anything big.  I do have a small crock pot that is just the right size for two people.
Every thing comes out yummy in a crock pot....I love it in the winter.  :snowman:

I salute you, debidoo, for making that meal! My husband is the cook in my family, and I usually never cook unless I'm being a sous chef for my youngest son who sometimes cooks. i really never learned to cook, but now I wish I had when I was younger!  :peace:

I bet your meal was yummy too. I cook occasionally but it’s just me now but the kids have moved out so I don’t cook as much as I used to. My fiancé will be here before Thanksgiving to live with me so I will have to start cooking again I guess I’m kind a looking forward to it I missed getting in the kitchen and trying new recipes

I cook everyday and it is just me and my husband.  It is much cheaper and healthier than eating out everyday.  When I make chili, stew, spaghetti sauce and soups I always make enough to freeze so if I don't feel like cooking one day there is always leftovers frozen.  I try to buy items that are on sale especially meat and then split the package for two or more meals.

I try every once in a while, but it never turns out very good. My husband does all the cooking. The problem is it's only the two of us now, but he still cooks like we're a family of five. We always have days of leftovers!

That’s exactly what I do, except I don’t cook on Friday and Saturday.  Kitchen is closed.  We go out to eat, it can be pizza, fast food, or a diner or casual restaurant, not really an expensive place.

I as well have recently starting cooking for our family of 2. I've been searching online for easy dinner ideas and have been able to find some great recipes!

One of the hardest things I try to do is to cook for just 2.  Esp now that neither on of us has a big appetite.  I do a lot of freezing left overs.  By doing that some weeks I only cook 2 or 3 times a week.

There are only 2 of us to cook for but we often cook larger meals and save the leftovers so we are not cooking something new every single night. It also helps us to eat all of the food we cook when we don't have many leftovers adding up in the fridge.

With the cold weather coming, I do the same. Hubby loves soup. I don't so on soup days, I'll make eggs or mac and cheese or don't eat at all (because I'm not hungry). Right now I have beef cubes on the stove making a large pot of beef barley soup.  I also have 2 lbs of hamburger thawing to make chili, hamburger soup and/or spaghetti sauce.  When I make lasagna, I always make enough for 2 meals and freeze the extra. Sure comes in handy on days I don't feel like cooking or have too much going on that I can't throw anything together quickly.

I like my crockpot for winter meals.  I like to make enough for leftovers.  Chili is one of my favorites as well as roast beef.

That is great.  I don't cook.  However, I find delicious recipes for others to cook.  Have a restful weekend!
