We used to have Directv several years ago. I don't remember exactly how much, but it was upwards of $160/mo. We canceled, got a Roku, and signed up for Sling TV.

How is Sling working out for you? I plan to cut the cord in January.  I did a lot of research on the difference services and Sling programming seemed to fit our viewing habits the most. There are only 3 stations that weren't included in the programs we watch daily but we could adjust to it.  My cable carries hundreds of channels but only 120 on my plan...and out of those 120, we watch 30. Now they removed Turner Classic Movies and moved it to Sports and Entertainment package for an extra $9.99 a month. That would take my bill over $200 again. No thanks, not for one channel. I'm betting other movie channels will go to that extra package soon.

I would never go with Dish or Direct TV. My son had one of those two a couple years ago which promised $40/month for 2 years but within 2 months, the bill was up to $99/month and the promised stations were deleted from his lineup.  He wanted to cancel but they pulled the old "you'll need to pay the full 2 years first" so he stopped watching and got his cable back and paid on both until his Dish or direct TV contract ran out.  In other words, it was a bait and switch.

Sling has been working great for us. We watch mostly Netflix/Hulu and not a lot of live TV, so losing a few channels that we used to watch was no big deal. We have the Blue package for $25/mo and added the Hollywood one for an extra $5 - I need my TCM! The Hollywood pack also has The Film Detective channel, which is similar to TCM. However, there are no local channels, at least not in my area, without an antenna. Paying for Sling, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu & Spotify all together is still way cheaper than Directv, and I never get rain fade!

That's great!  Before I went with Xfinity/Comast contract 2 years ago, my bill was going to be $203 a month. I started looking at the various opportunities and decided on Sling. It had all but 3 Channels we watch with the Orange and Blue and still way cheaper than Comcast.  We just bought a Roku TV a couple months ago and trying to figure out how it works when I cut the cord. LOL Also looked at Pluto and Hulu. Neither have most of our channels we watch.

BTW, my Comcast bill for this January was $214 and change. (My contract was up mid-Dec.) and looking to cut the cord for sure unless i get a better deal from Comcast.

I don't have direct t.v.  I had dish at one time.  We done away with paying for t.v. in that aspect.  Streaming devices are nice.  My smart t.v. comes with apps for things like pluto t.v. which is free.  we just pay for the internet mostly watch analog.

The stick requires an Internet account to use.

We are thinking about getting the Firestick and cutting the cable cord. It seems that the time has come for it.

If the government would only step in and make the internet free to all, then this would change the way how these providers operate, and maybe make it a lot cheaper for families to pay these providers...

That is correct. Connecting is just like you would connect any other device (such as your smartphone).

We have Directv and have been happy with it.  They do have specials for new customers and then they do get kinda pricey.  I have neighbors that use Xfinity and love it, but I haven't looked into it to see if they have the channels we like.

Call around to local providers and see what they are willing to give you for packages. I did that and Comcast ended up giving me a very good package for a lower rate.
