Christmas Shopping Online or in Store?
« on: December 03, 2019, 06:09:05 am »
I am trying to Christmas shop more in-store this year in an attempt to support the brick and mortar stores.  In my opinion, too many are having trouble and I enjoy going to the stores for wasting time, entertainment, and when I really need to see and feel a product in person.  The later satisfies me much of the time.  I don't want any more stores to close.  I have Christmas shopped 100% in-store this year so far and I am almost finished!

I would always prefer to shop in-store, especially at local stores. However there are some things that I cannot avoid buying online due to availability and competitive pricing.

I have shopped in stores and online.  I have four more presents I need to get and I will order them online because they have to be sent to my sister who lives in another state.  I also like shopping online so I can get credit with rakenten ( formerly ebates).

I am of the opposite side of the street. I will do almost all of my shopping online and have pretty much done so already. I think that brick and mortar stores need to evolve, become stronger and compete with today's market. I would develop an online presence, first, if I were to open a retail source. I would rely heavily on purchases from online sources for resale and determine if carrying stock would be a more efficient way of selling things. I would use space in my house if this were the case and if the storage began to interfere with my life I would consider opening a brick and mortar store for storage, more or less. I would consider opening the brick and mortar on a limited basis so as to minimize the headache/expense of hiring staff until it was proven that the model could sustain profit for an extended period of time. I do not like waiting in line, finding that a store does not carry the particular item that I am looking for, fighting for parking, or dealing with nasty temperaments that typically hang around crowded areas.

Not planning on doing much shopping this year, but the little I do I will do in store; for me I just prefer to see what I am buying actually looks like; and i also thing if I have to return it's easier.

I as well wanted to support the brick and mortar so I did all my Christmas shopping at our local mall.  It was sad to see the empty spaces where there was once a retail store, hoping 2020 will see more stores coming to our mall.

I went to the stores on Thanksgiving at night and got some good deals. Then I shopped on line most of the weekend getting a lot of the other stuff I needed. I will be heading back out to the stores this weekend in the hopes of finishing up.

I'm planning on doing a little bit of both. Sometimes you get better deals online but I love going to malls, too. There's just something about physically being in a store that I will always love.

I strongly prefer to doing my Christmas shopping online. The hustle and bustle associated with in-store Christmas shopping is becoming less and less appeal to me as I get older.

I do almost all of my shopping online so I don't have to struggle with crowds and long lines at the checkout. But I see your point. There is value in shopping locally in brick and mortar stores and supporting people with businesses right in your own community. Maybe I will try to do more of that next year.

When I shop I do it online.  Trying to shop among the masses is just not for me.  I let my fingers do the walking instead of being knocked around by other shoppers.

I have used both this year.  Hit the outlet malls in early October and got some good deals.  It really depends on what I am looking for.  Clothes is always purchased in a store as I like to see the actual item.

I'm doing most of my shopping online this year. It is so much more convenient especially when I can get free shipping, then it makes life easier & cheaper.

I've only shopped at one retail store so far, Bath & Body Works -- and that is because they don't offer free shipping. There are some great deals to be had there for Christmas :)
