Giving Tuesday
« on: December 03, 2019, 12:57:57 pm »
Today, 12/3, is Giving Tuesday, or a day when people are encouraged to do good deeds and donate to their favorite causes or charities.  Did you participate?  What did you do?  I did not give to anything particular today because this year I donated more than normal throughout the year.  I don't know particularly why I did but I do know I happened to think that I was lucky to be able to pay all my bills and exist in a warm home with electricity and food in the fridge.

Never heard of it.  All this naming days is stupid anyway.  I have started really looking at charities lately.  Check online and see how rich the CEO of said charity is before you donate to it. I have learned some things lately that have really changed what I give money too.  To avoid a fight I am not going to post any thing specific on here. Just research before you donate to any cause.

I wasn't aware that there is such a day. Now I know. Thanks for sharing and helping others :present: That's definitely a great thing.

I wasn't aware of it being a special day for sharing either.  I had an ophthalmology appointment, my husband and I ate at a Chinese restaurant and shopped at Costco.  None of these places had any signs regarding Giving or Donating.  Is this "Giving Tuesday" a new thing?

I've never heard of Giving Tuesday so thank you for sharing about this global generosity movement.  What a awesome idea!

This is the first "Giving Tuesday" I've ever heard of. I did not participate, because I give to charities throughout the year.

I've heard of this but sadly, didn't donate to anything today. I kind of forgot about it. Plus, I really don't have the extra money right now  :-\

I read about this through an email from one of my local libraries.  I usually give and donate to charities anyway, but if I go out I tend to participate.

I think it's something local businesses and companies just came up with this year to encourage more generosity, I like the idea of it.

Happy belated Giving Day! One of my new year's resolutions for 2019 was to donate to a children's hospital or a humanitarian cause on a monthly basis. Unfortunately, because of my debts, I was unable to do so. Hopefully, I can accomplish this resolution in 2020.

Seems like every year they come up with a new name for a day surrounding Black Friday.   All the need now is a name for Wednesday and they have the whole week.  It starts with Thanksgiving.  That use to be a day to spend with family and be thankful.  Now it is a day to fight with strangers and try to get all the best deals.

lol.  Did you hear about the person who was giving money away, gave a large sum to some random woman who trusted him...

She gets the money and transfers it to her bank and uses the money and then the man who was a scam artist reverses the transaction?  She ended up in a real mess cause then she had to try to repay the money she had already spent.  Her checking account was way over drawn.  I don't know if she ever got it straightened out.

I like the concept of a giving day to bring awareness to people who may not be donating time or money to anyone but themselves. I volunteer at a no kill dog shelter for fifty hours every year (my day time job contributes one thousand dollars to any charity that receives fifty hours of our donation time). We have an adopt an Angel program going on right now at work. Our company provided the names of three hundred children (angels) who would, most likely, not receive anything for the holidays. These children provide a 'Santa' list of things that they would like to have and the person who adopts this angel spends up to sixty dollars on the angel's list. It is kind of sad because some of these kids ask for things that are everyday necessities that we take for granted (tooth brushes, clothes, shoes, etc.).
