Christmas baking
« on: December 18, 2019, 10:02:29 am »
Do you bake something every year for Christmas? The date has gotten away from me and I just realized I need to get to the store and buy all the stuff for my sugar cookies! Probably few people actually eat them tbh but it's nice to have some little token thing ready to hand out.

One of my sons and I make liqueur-infused truffles over the holidays. This year we're using amaretto and Irish cream. My husband is the real holiday baker, though. He'll be making cheese straws, fruit cake, tea *bleep*, and chocolate spritz cookies. And that's just naming a few!  :peace:

I usually do more baking for Thanksgiving than Christmas, but I'll make a few things for the family like Banana Bread.

I used to make candy/bread/cookie baskets to hand out as gifts. This year I decided I just dont want to put the time or expense into it anymore.

But I did make some sugar cookies for the household :)

I have started some baking at this time and am hoping to keep it up during the holidays.  It is fun to use favorite recipes and it really gets you in the holiday mood, too.  I've already made a sheet cake for the office to enjoy -- Double Chocolate Coca-Cola Cake.  If you've never tasted this cake you have no idea what you're missing because it is simply the most moist cake ever!  It is from one of my oldest cookbooks which is a compilation of favorite recipes.

I enjoy baking anytime of the year. I really like to bake all types cookies, quick breads, fudge, peanut butter cups, and candy during the holidays, but time is getting short and I do not seem to have the time this year to do too much. Hopefully I'll get some baking in. I also like to give homemade goodies for gifts, but will not be doing that this year as I am so busy. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Holidays to all.

I put my kids in charge of baking cookies during the holiday week prior to Christmas that they are off school -- keeps them busy & they like to eat them & give them out to the relatives, so it's a win-win situation.
