Any suggestions for a Chrome Problem
« on: December 18, 2019, 04:39:17 pm »
My download speed on Chrome is very low, below 50, but my download speed on Safari or Firefox is over 200.

I tend to use Chrome a lot and would like to continue using it.

Spectrum gave me a new modem and Apple helped me trouble shoot but to no avail.

Has anyone on FC had a problem like this with Chrome?

Try this and see if it helps.

1. In the search/url bar in Chrome, type chrome://flags
2. Search for Parallel Downloading.
3. Set to Enabled.
4. Relaunch Chrome.

Well, here is the message that I got when I went to flags

WARNING: EXPERIMENTAL FEATURES AHEAD! By enabling these features, you could lose browser data or compromise your security or privacy. Enabled features apply to all users of this browser.

It made me nervous and I did not continue but I might go back later and try to find Parallel Downloading

I've enabled some flags without any trouble... just take note of the changes and reverse them IF you have trouble, but I haven't had any so a change or two shouldn't be a problem

Could it be you have a lot of things going on in the background that make it slower? Like any extensions or programs you don't really need and could turn off or put to sleep? Maybe try doing a virus scan too, just to be safe. Good luck! :)

I have only one extension and I have done a Malware scan. Everything comes up good but it is not just Chrome. I am having a bad problem with Safari as well. I keep getting the spinning ball. There is a lot of lag.

Apple Care shared my screen. Hardware is good but I think they are leaning towards having me rebuild my software or something like that. I did it once and it is very complicated and tiring and takes hours. I do not think that I am ready for it.

I also cleared cache and cookies, etc.

My computer is 3 1/2 years old. I am thinking that maybe it is time to consider a new computer.

I am not familiar with Apple, but on Windows it pays to clean up old files on a regular basis to keep your speed up.

Maybe you need to completely un-install Chrome and re-install it all over again making sure you have the most up to date version.  Just a suggestion on my part as I am no computer expert.

I think that I did un-install Chrome and re-install. I can not remember. But it is better. Not great but better.

However Safari remains a very bad problem with lots of lag and being forced to quit. I am thinking of un-installing and reinstalling safari.

It may be that it is time to think about getting a new computer.
