Genetic Testing For Breast Cancer
« on: January 09, 2020, 12:39:11 pm »
Last july, mom found 3 lump in her left breast. Went doctors to get mamograms and other scans - Breast cancer! She did genetic testing and was positive for BRCA2 gene. So I did Genetic testing too & was negative  :in-love: :in-love:! Now my brother & sister were told, but I know my sister would NOT go through with genetic testing.

Please get genetic testing for BRCA2 gene.

So you are saying if you have this "testing" and you do not have the gene you cannot get breast cancer?

There is no Women on my side of the Family who have ever had Breast Cancer, but Cancer does not Discriminate. I get a Mammogram every year. I would like to do the Genetic Testing though. Do you do it at Home or does your Doctor do it?

If I could afford to be tested yes I think its a great idea.  My family is predisposed to certain illness's and I think this would be a great way to start to prepare.

How are you a carrier?  That is the question. What you are saying does not make sense.  That was the question. So if this is true and you have to be a "carrier" then all the random stuff they say causes breast cancer doesn't.
Most of what we see or hear in the news or media is false.

If being a carrier or not being a carrier makes no difference in if you can get cancer then what is the point in the testing?  Just more money for the doctors?  Serious question.  And if you are not lucky enough to have insurance this type of testing is out of the question anyway. ;(

I  carry the gene. if you carry the gene there is a greater chance of getting cancer.  That was why Angeline Jolie had a total mastectomy.  She had ovarian cancer found she was a carrier of the gene and took the surgery to avoid breast cancer.  You can get cancer if you have or dont  have the gene but if you carry the gene your chances are much greater.   It may seem like a waste of money/time but if you were lucky enough to never have cancer it's not a waste.   Had I known about this test years ago I would have jumped at the chance.  Now I have Stage 3 cancer.  went through a double mastectomy, 4 months of chemo every week, and 36 rounds of radiation.  Trust me that's not fun, and now praying every day it doesn't spread because it it does, it becomes Stage 4.

Thank you.  That answers my question.  If you are lucky enough to have insurance and be able to have tests then you are a step ahead of a lot of people.  A lot of people have to just pray they stay healthy because they can't afford to go to the doctor.  And def cant afford any tests.  That stuff is expensive.  Even something as simple as going to the eye doctor will run you close to $1000 if you need contacts and glasses.

The only person in my family to have had cancer smoked like a freight train for 50 years and THAT is why she has cancer.

You’re welcome.  I agree, I’m very lucky I have good insurance from my job, but without the insurance I couldn’t afford many tests.  I think it’s a shame the cost of medical/dental/prescriptions.  That’s why many people can’t get the help they need or the medications they have to take and something should be done, one of the riches countries and thousands of Americans are suffering.

It really is.  And people who have insurance do not understand, or a lot of people don't.  They are like well just get a job that offers insurance.  It is not that easy.  If it were everyone would have good jobs, awesome insurance, and living the good perfect life.  I know a guy that went to the doctor a few years ago.  They told him he had cancer.  They would not treat him or do anything.  Sent him home with morphine and said you are going to die.  He had no insurance.  I actually don't think he even had a job.  Kind of just done odd jobs for some cash and lived with family.  The point is if you do not have insurance there is a good chance you will just be turned away.  Unless you can put things on a credit card.  And eventually those get filled up.
