I realize that, as someone else on here said, this post is regarding a bill that is specific to Vermont. I can't believe that it would ever pass, though. People have kids in college (like I do) and need to be able to be in contact with them, especially now that most colleges don't even have landlines in the rooms! I think it's probably just a few legislators that probably haven't though it through and are just trying to stop young people from texting while driving. However, like someone else here pointed out, a lot of people over 21 also text, talk and drive at the time!  :peace:

Parents should set age limits and also how and when the phones are used
I could not agree more.  Two of boys were so careless and lost everything.  But one son and my daughter were so responsible that is was easy to make decisions regarding this type of thing

Absolutely not.  Of course, while driving or walking on the streets but not totally banned.  Many people under 21 have to work for a living and a phone is a necessity now days!
Have a wonderful day!

This is totally unrealistic. If you wanted to say only a non-smart phone for kids under X age, just so they can call for emergencies, that's one thing. But smartphones are part of the world now especially for legal adults 18+.

I know a lot of teens (no they are not kids) who are working at 16 and some younger.  Kids who are out driving a car need to be able to get help if there is a problem.  The world we live in is not safe.  I had someone make a smart remark about me always having my phone in my hand.  Which is NOT true.  But even if I do it is none of no one else's business.  Yes, I have my phone with me all the time.  My life.  My choice.  Same with my kids.  If I want them to have a phone then no one has a right to tell me they cannot have one.  It is kind of like the one state, and this may have passed, where they tax sodas.  I know the one state banned the large cups.  Well big deal.  You get free refills so they just refill it 3 times instead of one.  People better wake up and see what is going on in this country.

This is a new rule that the country is trying to pass. Do you agree? Yes, No?
TOPIC:  Topic: No cellphones for kids under 21 years old?

I do not agree that the country or a state (Vermont from what I learned reading through this topic) should
ban cellphones for people under 21 years old.

Texting while driving, no matter what age, is illegal in most states already.

That is still none of no one's business. Yes smart phones are a part of the world today.  You say for legal adults over 18.  SO I guess all the illegals in the country are going to be banned from having a smart phone? I can not believe any one who proposed something like that would ever get reelected if it it is a joke.  It is just a way of gaining more control over the people.

I agree with Judylucas, it is up to the parent but I think a child should  have one in middle school.

no that doesn't even make sense. in most if not all states you are a legal adult at 18. :rainbow: :peace:
No.  with people coming up missing all the time.  It can be a big asset.  Also there are many times that I need to talk to a grandkid or they might need to get ahold of me.  Saves time and worry.  Do I think time should be limited yes

I don't agree I think somewhere in the teenage years is appropriate in case of emergencies. Maybe they don't need all of the social media attached to it until high school. Guess it depends on parent.

I wish they lower it to teens 12-18 Years old, That's just me being a uncle and having to deal with all the tech stuff that my nieces do and not paying attention to anything but the screen in front of them.

But the limit should be set by the parent not the government.  We live in a unsafe world.  So yes anyone who is out and about needs a phone.  I had someone following me to my car at Walmart back in the summer.  He was a local bum who stood at the corner and held a sign.  I made a call and told them HE was following me.  WHO he was.  He heard me and he did not know who I was talking to so he stopped and went the other way.  You never know what people are going to do. I think stuff like this is just to distract you from something else.

This will never pass.  If my 7 year old spends the night at his friend's house and I want him to have a phone so he can call me if he needs to then that is MY choice.   Yes people may (in other people's opinion) spend too much time on their phone.  A lot of people may think you spend too much time on survey sites.  Do you want that limited? People need to mind their own business and not worry so much about what others are doing.

Yes, I am engrossed (or so it seems) in my phone a lot of times when in public waiting.  Some people do not want to interact with idiots around them. lol
