Elevators don't bother me, but I've never been stuck in one. My husband was taking our dog outside early in the morning one day. He had just gotten into the elevator, and it moved only a few feet when the power went out, including the lights and console in the elevator. So he couldn't push the button for help. He tried calling me, but he couldn't get a signal inside the elevator. He was in there with our dog for maybe a half hour when the power came back on briefly but long enough for the elevator to move to the next floor. He had to pry the doors open to get out. The power still was out for several hours after that. Crazy.
Wow! I bet that was scary for him Like a horror movie..

I think he was more angry than anything. He immediately sent a message to the leasing office. They need some kind of back up that powers the elevator console at the very least, so that someone trapped inside can still call for help. He said there wasn't even an emergency light. Imagine being stuck in a metal box in complete darkness, not being able to call for help, and not knowing how long you're going to be there.

Not that it would make anyone less anxious, but I just googled it.

In the grand scheme, there haven't been a lot of elevator deaths when compared to other tragic life endings. That still wouldn't help much to know that if you are claustrophobic and get stuck in one.

LOL! I have never before heard someone write something about elevators that could have come from my own head! I do not like elevators either, and for all the same reasons you listed. I kind of hold my breath when I have to get onto one and then only relax when I step off. Mostly I'm afraid of the elevator getting stuck, though.  It's never happened to me and I hope to goodness that it ever does!  :peace:

Not a big fan of them, I generally prefer to take the stairs and it's also a nice health benefit!

Until reading this thread, I had never given thought to getting stuck in a elevator.

countrygirl12's post makes a lot of sense to me:    "In a building with elevators if the power goes off they should just assume there is someone in one of them.  I would think you could have a generator that could power the elevator long enough to get it to the next floor and open the door."

No I don't think about that.  I am more inclined to be nervous with the other people in the elevator with me  :-\

I've never been stuck in one.  My biggest thing would not being able to get to a bathroom.

I can't remember being stuck in an elevator, but I was on the one at our church with a friend a couple of years ago, and it started making horrible noises and jerking a little.  The thought crossed my mind that it WOULD get stuck and that Helen and I were about to get much better acquainted.  But it kept moving and delivered us to the 3rd floor safely.  I don't think I've taken that elevator since.  I need to get my steps in, climbing the stairs, anyway!

Have you ever been stuck on an elevator? They always scared me, just thinking if it stopped and I think about this large machine with strings taking me up and down inside a building, I also wonder about cameras. What if you get into the elevator with someone creepy? A serial killer?   :'(
While I've never been stuck in an elevator, this reminds me of that M. Night Shyamalan movie Devil where people were being killed one by one in this elevator and they didn't know who it was until the big reveal. I'd always imagine doing some brave act like going through the top and climbing up to safety if I ever got stuck in an elevator.
