 ???

February 2, 2020

Groundhog Day 2020: Punxsutawney Phil sees no shadow, predicts early spring for this Leap Year   !!!

This is only the 20th time out of 123 in his recorded history (there are 10 years where no record remains) that Phil hasn't been able to find his shadow.

FYI
It is also a 02-02-2020 Is A Ruper Rare Palindrome Day  date reads the same backwards as forwards!!

The last day that was a palindrome day was 11/11/1111

I don't put any credibility to Ground Hog's Day predictions from Punxsutawney Phil.

I do find it interesting that today, 02-02-2020 can be read forward and backwards the same.

In fact, today is the first eight-digit cross cultural 'palindrome day' in over 900 years!  We will have to wait a while to see a true cross-cultural palindrome day again, 101 years to be specific: 12/12/2121.

Today is quite the day then...early spring sounds good to me, though to be honest, we haven't had much winter so I can't complain...

The sun was shining brightly all day here, so pretty sure we will have more bad weather.

My husband reminded me that wasn't it last year, Phil predicted an early spring? Then the day after his prediction, we had the wrose weather of the whole winter with snow and sleet and cold. Well, this week, we've had snow, sleet, and rain. And more coming the rest of the week. So, I think Phil is a little off with his predictions lately.  We'll just have to wait until the next few weeks to see what happens.

I don't know if what he predicts will come true, but here in North Carolina we have had some very warm days for this time of year.

I figured it'd be an early Spring. Been a pretty mild winter here in the northeast.

I guess if some carry a rabbits foot for good fortune,a groundhog predicting weather is a piece of cake.

I don't believe the prediction  Think we will have at least one big snowfall coming to the NYC area.

To me, the event taking place at Gobbler's Knobb in Punxsutawney, PA, on Feb. 2nd (which marks the midway point of winter) would be a fun trek.  It's been a time-honored ceremony the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club with their Top Hats manage every year.  So what's so bad about a bit of lighthearted fun in the wintertime?

Of course, Punxsutawney Phil is no meteorologist.  According to history, in the 1800s German immigrants brought their ancient festivals to PA where they settled, including the belief that badgers could forecast the weather.  The bear was what those in England and France turned to for weather predictions.  However, the immigrants to the New World could only find groundhogs or woodchucks in the area so they adapted this furry animal to the lore.

I think the woodchucks on the Geico commercials are more intelligent.

That's true; it's been more nice than bad here in the south.
