Video Camera Question

Just curious - I am seeing more and more people have the Ring door bell camera which not only is video but also audio.
Do you think people should have to tell you that you are being recorded if you are at their home?  I know if I visit someone I do not expect to be recorded either physically or verbally.  I just saw a video where a lady was quite a few steps off the porch and the Ring door bell was picking up what she was saying.  And a lot of people have these inside their homes.

I am also noticing people never delete text messages or emails in case they want to use something you said against you one day in the future.

I want to get a ring but I still have an alarm; once my contract is up I am going to get that. I don't know much about it though.

I won't do anything any more that requires a contract.  You still did not answer the question.  Do you think if you are being recorded when you go to someone's home they should have to tell you?  There have been several lately where somebody came to their door and they had cameras and they person was recorded visually as well as audio and they put it on the internet.

I am not worried about it and could care less just a random question.  Stemming from a video I saw online yesterday. You never know when you are being recorded and what will be done with the video.  The question is simple and doesn't mean anything specific.  Do you think if you go to someone's home and they have hidden cameras and are recording you visually and audio that they should have to tell you they are doing so?

Personally, I think you should always expect to be recorded.  No matter where you are you could be recorded by some camera or another.  Stores, home security, traffic cams.

Telling you about the cameras probably wouldn't even come to mind because they're used to them. Like others have said, cameras are almost everywhere, so we're all probably on a lot more videos than we think. It's just the way life is now. Privacy is dead, and we killed it ourselves by buying all this "smart" technology.

Yes, I agree with you!  Cameras are everywhere.  And, actually, in some ways they are a good thing.  I watch a lot, and I mean a lot, of true crime shows, and cameras on businesses, homes, and streets have solved many crimes.  I am for them.  I would rather feel safer!! As far as coming to someone's front porch, I don't care if I am recorded.  What am I going to say on someone's front porch that is a problem unless I am a criminal or bully?

I have a very specific situation in mind when I asked. But it was sparked by a video I saw on Twitter.  The woman was off the porch and on the side walk and what she was saying was captured on the door bell camera.  My question was simply - say you go to someone's house for whatever reason and had a conversation on the porch.  Would you think you should be told if it were being recorded? Not a lot different than if you were speaking to someone in public and they turned their phone on and recorded your conversation without your knowledge. Would you think you should be told.

You could say a lot of things.  And it doesn't mean you are a bully nor a criminal.  I have said things to others in confidence and would not expect to be recorded. I have also seen tons of videos online where someone like a delivery person was recorded and did not know it and then the video was put online.

I have a ring doorbell and it comes with a sticker to place on your window or somewhere visible to let people know there is audio and video being recorded.  The security signs like ADT also informs someone that place is under surveillance.  A no trespassing sign is also good to have because sometimes the justice system sides with the criminal is something happens.

Doesn't mean they will put the sticker where it is visible. I do not go to random people's houses any way. Just a combo of something going on personal and the video I saw on Twitter that sparked the question. Then all the random video you see where somebody just happens to be videoing. It is unreal how many pictures and video people have of others. It is like they are just hoarding them up to use against somebody.

Totally agree as most people that come to my home would know that it was installed.
