Do You Iron?
« on: June 01, 2020, 06:28:21 am »
I can remember when ironing my clothes was a regular occurrence.  I ironed almost everything "back in the day."  Over the years, as fabrics have improved, I began to iron less.  Nowadays I iron very little.  I take my clothes out of the dryer as the cycle comes to an end and hang then up immediately or spread them out on a towel. When I do iron, it is for special occasions or if something, by chance, is rather badly wrinkled.  Also, it is often what I call "touch up" ironing.  However, some people have told me they never iron.  What about you?  Do you own an iron and do you use it?

I remember my mother ironed almost everything.  Do I iron, no - I don’t even own an iron.

I own an iron but I only iron tops once or twice a year when I get a hankering to wear a cotton blouse and it is all wrinkled from the washer and dryer.

I remember when I was a child my mom ironed once a week (ironing day).  When I was first married I ironed a lot but now I do not even own an iron.  I always liked the look and feel of freshly ironed clothes.  My first home had an ironing board built right into the wall in a cupboard,

I still do for my blouses, especially since I can't go out for dry cleaning service now

I own an iron, but I have never used it. If my clothes are wrinkled, I just put them in the Dryer and set the Dryer on the Wrinkle Guard section.

No, not that much since I am now retired so need to use iron on a regular basics; I have a hand held streamer that is good when not a lot of wrinkles.

I never iron anything unless it is very wrinkled from hanging in the closet.  Most of the time I take my clothes out of the dryer as soon as it finishes so the clothes don't have time to wrinkle.

I only iron when it is necessary that I do so.  I hate ironing.

I own an iron and ironing board.  I rarely use the ironing board unless I am sewing.  We hang up our shirts from the dryer before they are dry and the wrinkles, if any, fall out on their own.

Back "in the day" when I was a kid, we ironed a LOT.  We also used double Dexter washtubs with a wringer between the tubs.  We hung our clothes outside on the clothesline, sprinkled them when we brought them inside and ironed.

I used to enjoy ironing my shirts when my pay per hour was considerably less. I am not able to iron between work down loads or during meetings like doing tasks on fusion cash. With the cost of a clean, press, medium starch and wrap of my dress shirts costing only ninety none cents, it makes much more sense to hire the task out to a dry cleaner for me. The time savings allows me to make more money at other streams of income. I think we sold our iron, and ironing board, at a rummage sale about twenty three years ago-when my first child was born. I have looked at getting a combination pants presser and shirt steamer but it is just as easy to throw the clothes in a laundry bag and hang it on my front door for Monday pickup with the return of the pressed clothes ocurring within twenty four hours.

This made me laugh - I don't even own an iron.  If something is wrinkled I have this spray that supposedly gets out the wrinkles and I haven't even used that - my mom ironed ALL my dad's clothes.  My best friends mom in high school ironed sheets OH MY GOSH I can't imagine.

I remember my mother ironing quite a bit when I was a kid. During my entire adult life (I'm 58), I've ironed possibly 15 to 20 times in all those years. I'm like a lot of you here on this board; I iron my really nice things that I might wear once in a blue moon (which means next to never, LOL!) But like someone on here said, fabrics have come a long way and there's not as much need to iron. I grab my clothes out of the dryer right as the timer goes off and hang them up ASAP.  :peace:
