Walmart prescription
« on: July 05, 2020, 06:19:58 am »
My daughter needed her prescription from what used to be a local pharmacy here in town. They recently merged with cvs and the price without insurance was almost $50.00 . I told them to transfer it to walgreens since I get points from them. Low and behold they were over $50.00. The lady at the pharmacy told me that walmart was only $15.00 and I got it. The pharmacy gave me a list of all prescriptions ranging from $4.00- $20.00 If you do not have medical insurance you should look into this for meds you may need. You can save a bundle :)

There is also another pharmacy savings card called "Singlecare."  People can look into it and compare.

At one time I had a prescription for a specialty cream from a dermatologist that Rite Aid was going to charge around $185 for.  I checked various pharmacies in the area and no one was much under that price.  I finally went online checking prices from Canadian pharmacies and found one almost half price.  I needed my prescription sent from my doctor.  When I checked with the doctor's office, they suddenly came up with a pharmacy in my state that would fill and deliver it to my door for practically the same price as the Canadian pharmacy.  Interesting, huh?

My husband and I were both prescribed the exact same antibiotic and cough suppressant last year.  We filled them at different pharmacies and the price my husband paid was double what I paid.  I was shocked.  We have the same health insurance coverage.  Shouldn't our out of pocket cost have been the same no matter what pharmacy we went to??

Suddenly came up with?  Did you ask them to start with to tell you a pharmacy to use? I don't know how getting sccripts from Canada would even work. Do they not require a prescription from a doctor? Walmart is usually the cheapest in my area. But even their stuff is higher if you do not ask for their discounted price.

No because different pharmacies charge different amounts. Walgreens is about 10 times the price of anybody else. The only people who can afford there are people with welfare insurance where they pay absolutely nothing no matter what the cost. Last time I tried to fill a script at Walgreens it was going to be almost $300 for one time. I called Walmart and it was also almost $300 until they said oh we can give it to you on the plan where you get stuff for $4 or $11.  smh

Wow yea high prescription prices and costs could be a problem for folks with a limited income.  I take a blood thinner that was over 400$ (that was a 90 day supply)when I first started it and my heart doctor helped me out with samples then it finally thank goodness went down to $114 for 3 months.  Thanks for informing members of something that could help them.

I have heard about things like that at Walmart that is why I do not get my prescriptions there. I have always thought Walmart was a shady opperation.

Always good to shop around for prescription cost to compare; prescription cost is out of control even with insurance so do what we can to find most affordable cost for  us; I have not tried Walmart before will look into that.

My husband's work has it set up so we've got to do mail order pharmacy in order to get a good price. You can go to Walmart or Walgreen's if you have an emergency prescription, but they're pretty strict about what they consider in and out of program. That being said, the mail order pharmacy we have to get our regular meds through is not expensive for most things.  :peace:

Definitely! I've used Walmart's pharmacy and their prices are usually the lowest.
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

It was sent to the pharmacy I normally used.  I checked on other pharmacies in my area independently and none came up with a much lower cost.  I explained what was happening with the Canadian pharmacy which can be used as long as they have a prescription from a verified doctor. The pharmacy that the doctor "suddenly" came up with is a little independent pharmacy about 100 miles from my home.  Did you even read my post carefully?

Suddenly came up with?  Did you ask them to start with to tell you a pharmacy to use? I don't know how getting sccripts from Canada would even work. Do they not require a prescription from a doctor? Walmart is usually the cheapest in my area. But even their stuff is higher if you do not ask for their discounted price.
