Why is it when you go to a store and buy what you want, then you put it all on the register and they say "is that it" ? has this happened to you?...I mean if there was more I would put it up there don't you think lol

i think they just want to make sure you didnt forget anything so they are asking out of trying to be thoughtful. or probably something the store requires them to do.

The clerks at our grocery store ask me, "Did you find everything ok?" instead of "is that it?"  Seems like a very polite question to me.  Every once in a while I may even respond that I wasn't able to find "blank" and someone usually will go get that item for me if I so choose that I still do want it.

Cateyes1 I guess I have never given it a thought.  However, it could possibly trigger a memory of something that I have forgotten.  Now that you have mentioned it, I am tempted to ask why do they ask that question.  In a friendly way, of course.

That is quite often what the clerks in our area have said. I find it to be a nice gesture. I don't know if I have ever had anyone say "Is that it?" I would probably respond, "yes, unless you would like to pick up my grocery tab" lol

I think that it is standard for them to do that. I don't mind because I have gotten to the register and for got something and they have the bagger grab it for me. I had all the ingredients for tacos one day and forgot the sour cream.

I suppose their told to ask that. A store I've gone to used to ask do you want ice or stamps. One time I said yes  stamps cause I did need them.

This is pretty common and normal. But they are asked to ask because sometimes customers go to a store for specific items and don't find those specific items and come out with other items instead. Its good practice because if a produce is in another part of the store or in the back waiting to be stocked you could possibly get that sale to if they have the product that is

To the OP: I would have the same reaction. If what I put on the register was not enough, I would not be in the line checking out, would I? I understand in some cases, it is a matter of being courteous, however, I would probably select a better comment (e.g., thank you for shopping at our store, or something along those lines). The other comment that grinds my gears is "Did you find everything you needed today?" Again, if I didn't, I would have brought it to the attention of a manager before checking out.
