IMAGINARYGIRL I need your help
« on: October 31, 2020, 10:42:10 am »
You worked with a vet right?  Is it normal for a tiny kitten to already have green eyes?  I thought they were always blue.

Can you tell me what age they usually turn from blue to green?  Something I read said around 7 weeks.  I have acquired a tiny fluff ball and trying to determine an age. Not sure yet if I will be able to keep it.  I wonder if it is not maybe older than we orig thought and just tiny.  It only weighs 15 ounces.  It seems healthy, eyes are clear, and it has ate some moist food and drank milk from a bottle.  It has little teeth.

It does not seem to know how to drink from a saucer.

I’m not her, but I always thought they were born with blue eyes then can change.  Is the kitten white?  I know white cats can have blue, green, or gold eyes.  I wonder how old she is if can’t drink out of a saucer.  I hope you can help the baby and as a pet lover I want to seriously thank you for getting her and trying to help her.  Thank you!

No clue about eyes or age. But I think putting your finger in the milk and bringing it up to the kitty's mouth might get her to drink.

If not, you could try an eye dropper. Good luck!

I would estimate the kitten's age by teeth first. She should have all her baby teeth (26 total) by 8 weeks old. At about 4 months old, their adult teeth (30 total) start coming in.

Their eyes can start changing color at around 3 or 4 weeks old, I believe, and they're done changing around 3 months old.

A kitten at 15 ounces is maybe around 3 or 4 weeks old, but like you said, it could be a little bigger or smaller for its age.

You kind of have to estimate each of them and average it out.

Wow! Tonight, when I was out at the outside ice machine to get ice, I saw 2 kittens one black & white, the other orange & white run pass away behind the dumpster! I guess they were feral cause they didn’t stop running even though I used small steps & a quiet voice! They were so tiny I’m assuming they’re weeks old. Thank you for stopping to save a homeless kitten & thank you 1 1imagnerygirl for your knowledge on all things about kittens!

They are.  So since it's eyes are already green I am thinking it is older than I thought.  No it is black.  I think it is just severely under weight.  It is old enough to drink from a bowl.  I am pretty sure I am the first human contact this kitten has had.  So I am trying to teach him/her how to eat and drink.  It can eat moist kitten food.  And I put I think it drank a little water from a plate this morning.  Just got to learn.  It will drink from a bottle.

It has a mouth full of little teeth.  I don't know if I can keep it.  I already have cats.  I don't know that they will accept a kitten. It is inside now but away from the other kitties.  I am trying to find a home but it will have to be somebody that will keep it corralled for a while anyway.  It is too small to just be turned outside.  I am gonna see if anybody at church would want one.  I def will not just toss it aside nor will I take it to the shelter.

People need to get their pets fixed!  Too many that nobody wants.  I can't really take care of another one.  I can't afford to get it fixed and declawed.  But I won't just turn it out either.  So what do you do? There are cats every where in my neighborhood.  We have a crazy woman who gets them in droves.  She had over 40 at one time.  And she just lets them run loose.  None are fixed and none are vaccinated.

I thought our shelter was suppose to be a no kill shelter but I am pretty sure that is just a verbal thing because they do put them down.  A lot.  Then you have people who take in a cute little kitten or puppy and when it grows up they are tired of it.

I tried to make her hold her little mouth open so I could count her little teeth.  That did not work. lol

Haha! Yeah, it's not easy to do, even in adult cats.  :cat:
