Yes, my cat had the same problem. I just gave her less food a day, reduced the portion every day, and she lost weight

Like any live creature, the cat can only lose weight with the help of calorie deficit. So yea, you should feed your cat less. However, you should be careful; there're a few points on feline healthcare which help you recognize if your cat gets enough food for his organism. The problem is cats like food and can eat more than they need, just like people. That's why cats manipulate sometimes and pretend to be hungry. You can start feeding your cat due t the proper schedule, which will help him stay healthy and lose weight without stress. I hope this information helps you to distinguish real hunger from treat desire. Good luck!

My cat is also overweight and keeps asking me for food. I've tried everything to get my cat to lose weight but to no avail. Should I take my cat to the hospital?

I have a Senior cat and she has gained weight now because she is not as active as she use to be.  I try to limit her food intake to maintain her weight.

My Mom's Dog has gained a lot of weight. She is fat looking. My Mom walks her a lot and has her on a special diet, but she has not lost any weight.
