Religions-Do you judge?
« on: November 11, 2009, 02:21:53 pm »
How many people look down on those of a different religion? Do you Christians think less of Pagans? Do you Pagans think less of Muslims? Do you Hindus think less of the Buddhists? Let me know!
I know that this is a controversial topic and I would like to ask that people remain civil with their posts. Thank you!  :cat:

I only look down on the ones that force themselves onto other people.  :angry7: They know who they are.

I wish people would be more open minded... Most of them say they have this strong Faith in their beliefs, God(s), Jesus(s), Lord(s), Buddah(s), Allah(s) etc...so what would be the harm in listening to other possibilities/theories...?  ::)

It wouldn't be a problem if at some point, the one's doing all the talking would try listening as well. I don't see too many of those Jehovah's Witness people knocking on my door to ask my what I believe in.

Ignorant people. Some people don't understand this concept in the least-- it's like speaking an alien language to them. It is impossible to get them out of their box and see reality. Some people get so far into their beliefs that they will kill others who have different opinions or beliefs. Unfortunately this has been the case for mankinds entire history and it still goes on today.

I have no problem with spirituality. Sharing what you believe with someone else who is open-minded is one of the most satisfying experiences; especially when it makes them or you think about their/your own beliefs and what can be integrated. But for the most part I think it should be kept to yourself until you know someone more. Far too many people end up forcing their nonsensical opinions down peoples' throats and the people line up to get thrown into the machine.

I'm agnostic and look down on all religions. It may sound cruel, but when you understand that it does not just influence your spiritual side and influences your political, social, sexual, and moral sides, it can turn people into close-minded ethnocentric idiots who won't accept anything that's not their religion. Pathetic.

if its okay for ME to have my own beliefs,
then it should be perfectly okay for YOU to have
your own too.

that's how i try to look at things, even when i disagree
with others beliefs. its theirs -- not mine -- why should
i be worried about it?

to each his own.

I do judge  but i dont judge people by their religion. Besides even though i judge people its not like i try to be mean to them. the golden rule: treat everyone the way you want to be treated.

I try not to, but I have to admit I do judge those with religious beliefs.  I'm harder on Christians than on any other religious group though.  I find them to be very pushy with their beliefs as well as close-minded.  I had a conversation with my friend on religion (she's Christian) and I couldn't help getting annoyed that she couldn't give me clear explanations and her only reasons (if she even had any) were reasonings given to her by the her school she was learning from, which was from the Bible, a simple book.  Overall though, I find people with religious beliefs are brain-washed to some extent.  I don't care if a person believe in god or what not, they can believe what they want, but it doesn't seem sincere when they have a group behind them telling them what they believe.  My remark on "brainwashing" might sound over the top, but it's true.  An example is when a child is taken to church.  The parents didn't ask the child.  A child (a blank slate) is put in an environment and is told what to believe and told to do something that should be within their right to decide for themselves.  But, because the religious beliefs have warped the parents into believing they are right and they decide for their child.
I don't affiliate myself with any religion as you can see.  My parents are Buddhists and not once did my parents or anyone attempt to persuade me any other way.  They gave me awareness of the fact that they were Buddhists, but never chose anything for me.  As for beliefs, I believe in people and the world I live in, nothing else.    (I chose harsh words, but peace and love)

Being a member of one of the many Cultures that have been victim of genocidal practices by followers of one religion in the name of manifest destiny and the Doctrine of Discovery, I find it almost impossible to not harbor some suspicion of the morals and motives of said religious adherents.

I simply can not comprehend why people refuse to accept that others just wish to exercise the right to be who and what they are without anyone trying to force them to assimilate into the status quo.

Everyone has the right to their chosen lifestyle as long as that lifestyle does not infringe on an others right to be who they are.

To the haters, I would stress.....lifestyles are not contagious.....if its not for you, fine, but you wont catch it, so let them be.

Which brings us to "do unto others......" if you wouldn't appreciate someone from an different religious discipline trying to force their traditions down your throat, don't do it to them.

I think what it all boils down to is, Creator put this beautiful world here for all of us no matter who we are, so you do you and I'll do me and lets try and be a bit more civil towards one an other for the next 500+ years than we have for the past 500.
The future belongs to our future generations, lets give them peace and unity despite our differences.

See that's a problem for me.  To me that's forcing your opinion - to say God you are talking about the GOD of the bible and excluding hundreds of other of religions.

I do not judge, but as an atheist I do not want to be told "have a blessed day" or "you're in my prayers."  Thanks for the concern, but its just as easy to say "Have a great day" or "you're in my thoughts" and NOT force religion on me.  To each his own - I wont judge you for your religion, just keep religion out of the discussion with me  :BangHead:

I don't. I live in Utah and there are about 4 LDS churches just near my house. I certainly don't have anything against Mormons my problem is that the religon seems forced on some of those who aren't.

I don`t force anyone to trust in God, that will be your job to put your trust in him. You have to remember if your going to bring up conversations. There is always going to be people to Defend are Great God. I love my God and always will, if you want to know more about God just ask. Don`t cast judgement on other people that do trust in God.

That in itself is pushing your religion.  It is YOUR job to trust in YOUR god.  Not mine.  Don't tell me what my job is.  Thank you.
