I’ve been working as a recruiter for a couple of years now, but recently I moved into a full desk role. It’s been a huge adjustment. I feel like I’m constantly juggling calls with clients, making sure they’re happy, and then switching gears to hunt for candidates. Sometimes I get so deep into sourcing that I realize I haven’t followed up with a client in days. I’m trying to find that sweet spot where both sides get enough attention without me burning out. Anyone else been in this situation?

Yeah, that transition can feel like running two marathons at once. One thing that helped me was creating a set routine for client touchpoints and blocking dedicated sourcing time. When I first moved into full desk work, I read this breakdown of full desk recruiting   that explained the pros and cons of balancing both worlds. It reminded me that client trust grows from consistent updates, even if you don’t have immediate results, and sourcing benefits from uninterrupted focus. I’ve found that using clear “office hours” for each side of the job helps me keep both plates spinning without losing my mind.

I’ve never worked in recruitment, but I can see how that would be a balancing act. I imagine it’s like running a small shop where you’re both selling to customers and making the products yourself. If you focus too much on one, the other suffers. Guess it all comes down to finding some sort of rhythm that feels natural over time.
