Okay I'm really iffy about putting my phone number on these websites. I can handle the spam, but does it charge? On some offers it will say "Put your number and type your pin when you recieve it" and stuff. Such as the offer "Predicto".
I'm really just wondering If I fill out those sort of offers, will I be charged monthly or something?

Usually you will be charged for such messages. You will be charged at least once for the sms you receive (by your mobile service provider) and sometimes it acts as a monthly program, so u may be charged more. I did this without knowing in some program, (not through FC) and I was charged 20$ (Okay $19.99 to be exact) and since then I have been very careful with such offers. I suggest you read the fine print and then proceed with them. You won't be able to use an internet phone number service because you won't be able to get incoming sms through these sites. I am not sure of any sites in particular which provide this service. You can get a voice-mail forwarded to your e-mail though.

I use Cricket as a cell phone provider, and they have the advantage that they won't let people charge stuff to me. Cricket doesn't bill people the way a normal cell phone company does. Whereas most cell phone companies will charge you at the beginning of February for your usage in January, Cricket makes you pay at the end of December for the phone usage you will have in January. All of Crickets plans include unlimited minutes and unlimited texting. For long distance calls, you have to add extra money to your account ahead of time.
However, they don't support those weird short 5 or 6 digit phone numbers that a lot of companies use for texting things as parts of promotions.

I don't like to use the offers that ask for your cell phone number either. Alot of the time some messages you receive can have virus's that attach to your phone or tracking devices to track your phone usage. My suggestion is to read the fine print carefully..check out the company before hand to see if it's safe. I normally check with the Better Business Bureau to see what rating a company has and if they have comlaints filed against them.

:wave:You just have to read the fine print it all comes down to that. If you do that you will not get charged something you didn't authourize. But i did do one of these things on myspace i think it was an I.Q test or something and didn't read and i was billed 9.99 the next month but i called my phone co. and they refunded me the money so just take the time to read. Usually when u accept the text message by entering the pin number they sent you it is their way of getting you to say its ok for them to charge you good luck

Yeah, I don't like giving phone numbers as it removes your right to the National Do Not Call list, as they can say you have done business with them.

I did one of the offers where you had to put in your cell phone number, but I made them stop by replying 'STOP' right after they sent me the first message, and I haven't received one since. I read the fine print and it didn't say anything about additional charges, so hopefully I won't get anything on my next bill because of that. I wish there were more offers that didn't require your phone number.
