Title: Does anyone else read BOOKS?
Post by: Kymberli0529 on January 04, 2010, 08:48:08 pm
Just wondering if anyone else here reads like I do.  I go through about a book a day or every two days.
Anyone else or am I the only geek?

i used to read like that but now i'm lucky if i can get through a book a month! i've got a husband, 2 kids, and a house to take care of so reading is kind of low on my "to do" list now. when i do get a chance to curl up with a book i like to read for pleasure, i.e. stephen kind, ben rehder, michael crichton, etc.

Yes, I too am an avid reader.  I have always loved to read.  Paperbacks, Hardcover and now digital ereader which is way cool.  I usually read 1.5 books a day.

I have a husband and three kids but I can't imagine not finding time to read just a little each day even if it is before I go to bed.  When my youngest is in the bathtub, I usually let her play for a while so I can read a chapter or two.

I love all books, but especially espionage and science fiction.  I've found lately the best-quality science fiction is being written based on video game series, where authors who are avid fans volunteer their skills to develop story lines and fill in cracks that the most devoted will pay to read!

I can still knock out a Charles Dickens or Shakespeare too, though!

I've lost count how many books I've read over a long, long lifetime, folks and I'm still reading. There's nothing like the mind's eye creating the images described by the author. I've been a sucker for a good read since I was a boy in the 40s! Love the movies but give me a good book anyday.

Yes, I enjoy reading books a lot. I Love to read good romance, drama, and self help books. Sometimes when I don't have time to read I will make a few extra hours to read.

I read a whole book front to back at one of my jobs. But I seldom have time to sit down and read a book, I get sidetracked, preoccupied, I have to always be doing two things at once, like right now, I am missing a movie, typing, ha ha.

:)  I used to read books...not anymore because I find them boring and time consuming...a total waste of my personal time. Libraries fine you if you return them late...I have better things too do with my time. Now I read sypnoses (summaries) of books if I find them to know what these books are all about.

Sorry, but I find that a very sad attitude. No judgement or anything, but I just can't imagine finding books or reading a waste of personal time.

I've always been a very avid reader...it's funny, one time I was at somebody's house and his family came over, and they were watching tv...a commercial came on about reading, and this chick goes "Reading is dumb, who would wanna do that??" I immediately knew this was the stupidest sentence I'd ever hear in my life.

I am an avid reader, too.  I don't know if it's a generational thing or not -- love of books, I mean.  I'm 50 and my husband is 63 and we both love to read.  I think one of the best pleasures in life is the feel of a hardcover book in my hands (okay -- quite your sniggering out there!).  We raised our son in a home where we were always reading and I read to him like crazy when he was a child.  Now, he's 21 and would rather play video games or watch movies before he would ever crack a book.  Drives me crazy!  I think it's a generational issue due to the way kids are taught in school today.  But, I'm sure there must be some young folk out there who still love books in their young adult lives.  NOTE:  I would love to have a big house with a huge private library to go to and curl up with a good book.  :)

Hell yes!
Well....when I can.
Usually I'm stuck in a textbook.
I also read online stories.

Of course there's that whole grey area of comic books/manga whether or not it constitutes as reading....it doesn't people.

I love reading books!  I have a bookshelf full of books in my room.  I enjoy reading urban non-fiction, fiction, drama, and some suspense.  If it appears to be a good book I will read it!

I really enjoy reading books when I get interested in them.  Usually if I find a book that I like, I will read through the whole thing in a day or two.  The latest has been the entire Harry Potter series.  Once I started reading them I just kept reading them for like 10 hours straight.  It is hard for me to start reading a book, but once I do I finish it quickly.

Well I'm 27 and my dad also is an avid reader (although my mom doesn't read books)...I became this way because when I was between 7 and 12 years old, my dad made me read a novel or book of my choice for 1 hour every day after school, then he would skim thru the part I read and ask me a few questions to make sure I honestly did it...I despised this at first, and eventually realized how much I loved reading!

I am not into sci-fi but will occasionally suck up a fantasy.

Lately, I'll start a book but never finish. Now I am on my third unfinished book in 6 months. Ten years ago, I would a book a month with no problem. I think with the internet, my mode of learning has changed from discovery to search and scan. The sad part of this is, a lot of kids are not learning the answers. They are just instead knowing where to get it.

I love to read as well, but I don't get a whole lot of time to do it. I feel like most of the books I read are quite long and you definitely wouldn't be able to read them in a day or two! I really like the classics, I can't stand stuff like Twilight.

I love to read. I like mostly bio stuff though true events that actually happened. I like to read about struggles people have and overcome. Im also a huge fan of anything in Oprah's book club. A really good friend got me into reading a book called Stick Figure, true diary of an 11 year old girl struggling with an eating disorder, I found the book sad but fascinating at the same time, due to the fact that I do have two little girls and this could happen at any moment to any child it just struck me hard. I would recommend that book to anyone else raising girls. Its sad the effects the world, media have on children that young and younger.

we are a book worm family! we sit down together for at least 30 minutes a day. Riley (4 year old) got a tag reading system for christmas and i love it! back to my *bleep* books while he delves into his cat in the hat and such appropriate topics. Zac (infant) still tries to eat my books if i'm reading for longer than 15 minutes but i guess he just wants to see what's so darn interesting!  ;)
