Okay it is blizzard 2010.I had to shovel for two hours now my back killing me.Any home remedies out there someone would be willing to share.I`ve tryed heating pad.hot bath, and predizone the dr gave me and more then likely will have to shovel again tomorrow.

Maybe you should try some stretches. My dad has a pretty bad back and that always seems to help him.
-
tiger balm is my saving grace, a more natural form of things like icy hot. I also have lidocaine patches. stretching before and after will help keep things looser for the next round.
-
Tiger balm works well. Try taking advil too. Isn't Predizone a steroid? I thought it was used for having bronchitis or allergic reactions...don't think that will do anything for pain.
Try using an ice pack on your back and lay on your side...heat will just increase the blood flow in your back and create more swelling, making the pain worse. The stretching before and after suggestion is also sound advice.

I would call the doctor back and try to get some actual pain pills. Lortab is good if you don't use it for too long. It's addictive.

Here are some stretches
that might help. Get on your back, and hold your knees to your chest, and hold your head to your knees. If that doesn't work, put your feet in a chair, and hold yourself up with your arms, and your feet in the stool, or something of the sort, then lean your midsection toward the ground. I hope those stretches work for you and your back feels better.

Thank you ! will try it ,

the dr gave me the predizone for ankle pain and swelling,it helped with that thought i would try it!Have muscle relaxers dr gave me for my back but they make me extremely tired so i try not to take them
-
Pay someone else to do it. You're wallet might hurt for a little while but your back might hurt even longer.
-
Alelve....four a day for three days only..then stop....too much goes after liver.
But this will work.
-
I have some lidocaine patches but they don't help because I have bulging in the small of my back so using a patch will not work for me.
-
my physical therapist told me to use both hot and cold packs because hot pack loosen the muscles and cold packs help numb the pain... thats always worked for me
-
stretches, core building exercises, hot/cold packs, and proper posture believe me i am struggling with back pain also and these things sound easier than they really are
-
I hate back pain... mine will never go away until I have surgery.... But hey got a plan hot water running straight down and well a sock full of rice.... heated up in the microwave....
-
Interesting option, put rice in sock you say then heat it up!

The best way to get rid of back pain is core exercises such as the plank and its other variations. Good luck to everyone.
-
when you have long tie nail, it also hurts your back. it may sound weird but when your shoe is too tight, your feet can affect your back too.

By plank do you mean place hands on shelf or cabinet completely straighten body and bend almost to floor, this is what dr told me to do.It makes the arthritus in my leggs hurt so bad cant do that.Hurting bad enough dont need more pain, thanks anyway
