When was the last time u went 2 church. what did u learn from it.javascript:void(0);
-
20 years ago what did i learn that the preacher that i had listened to for most of my young years was now
gambling with the churches tithe money and was cheating on his wife. put a big hole in me i looked up to this man.
only to realize thats exactly what he was just a man nothing special i was crushed
-
I don't even remember the last time I was in a church. Oh actually it would have been a little over two years ago for an aunt's funeral.
-
Its been about 5 months only because my husband has had a liver transplant and had 2 hernia surgeries and still has an open wound. He can't be out in crowds due to his immune system being compromised. We go when its less likely to be alot of sick kids and adults.
-
i went to church the last time in '05. it was with someone i really didnt like but wanted to get someone jealous.

This Morning...

Rofl if god exists he's giggling. I never thought of going to church to make someone jealous.
I haven't gone since I think 2003. I liked the church but not going to church. I was in Florida and my aunt kept wanting us to go to her church. I hated her church, my grandfather's funeral was held there. The little programs for his funeral were more ad for the church then they were about him. Who the hell does that? Luckily, we saw it and made more programs before the day of his funeral. There was a church my grandfather would go to near my grandparent's house. It was really pretty. I don't really like going to church at all, but something about that place didn't annoy me the way my aunt's did. Maybe because they didn't advertise their church on funeral programs.
I didn't really learn anything from going...I never really understand what the hell is going on in there or what they're talking about. Maybe because I don't care.... Also hearing one of the people say that animals have no soul kind of pissed me off.
Other then that going isn't for me. When that collection plate comes around I fight the urge to help myself. He usually helps those that help themselves, right? Why not help myself?

I have a daily Bible Study I do online every day. The church is inside us, We are the body of Christ, and Christ is the church. Our bodies are a temple to house the Holy Spirit. So when asking the last time I went to church, I never left. There are many different churches and many different focuses, and what you learn from the one your are attending is the most important, are you simply going for a thing to do on sundays with the family, do you think it will get you to heaven, is it for show, is it social, or do you truly go to fellowship and worship our Lord. Do you truly go to become closer to God, or do you go to church to plan events and socials. Church is important for bringing the body of Christ together, but if each member is not understanding what their part is, it can make some churches fall apart. We all need to look at this, and build our relationship with our Father more. We need to realize our Savior sacrifices for us, has cleansed us and set us free, then we go to church and give thanks, in worship sharing with others.

yesterday morning...and learned that sometimes He does for me what I cannot do for myself.
-
never...I'm not Christian, just Hindu...btw, my 30th post!!!
-
Yesterday morning...... I learned my 8 month old doesnt like to sit and listen to the pastor preach. LOL
-
I was there last Sunday. I am the Sunday school director and sing in the choir. It is a lot of fun. If you haven't gone in a while, try it. You may have forgotten why you left or don't go in the first place.

So sorry to hear that I hope he recuperates well!
Back to the topic; I'd have to say a few years. I used to go every sunday with a good friend of mine until things started to get complicated with my significant other. Then my friend moved out of state for college and my boyfriend isn't really the church type.
I really should go again even if it is just myself and my baby! :peace:
-
I don't call my place of worship a church because it differs from the church greatly and REALLY applies the bible throughout the whole thing without the 1,000 halleluyah's and choir songs etc.
I learned how to attain, retain and maintain your faith as well as what does being baptized in the name of the holy spirit mean and what does being baptized by spirit mean.
I've been going 2 times a week for a couple of weeks now, I should be able to be baptized by next year.

Last time I went to church was 11 years ago. I realized that no one practices what they preach. Better to just believe what you want and stay home IMHO.

Not mine, they definitely practice what they teach.

Wow, that's spot on what I was going to say. I stopped going around 11 years ago too, and I learned that the people that went to that church were a bunch of mindless hypocrites. During mass they would act so sweet and kind, then they'd run out the door as soon as they could, cut off the people they were just sitting next to in their suvs, honk at the grandparents walking too slowly across the parking lot, and do illegal left turns into oncoming traffic... Really, come on now. I'm glad I got out of there.
-
Have not went to church for a long time, I estimate about 7-8 years.

Sunday I try to make it every .Sunday but sometimes don't make it

Just this past Sunday!!!

Early 2007...right before I became an atheist. lol
I've learned that church plays an important role in maintaining a brainwashed mindset, especially if you find churches that are "fun" and you enjoy going to (like mega-churches). The slick, young pastors at these types of churches will speak messages that appear to apply to your modern life. Don't be fooled, though, as said pastors will conveniently ignore all of the vile stuff in the Bible, not address any questions or evidence against god, and rarely - if ever - speak of hell. I think going to church gives the average Christian an excuse to not read their Bible, which is really a shame, because we need more people to read their Bibles in full for more people to be able to realize the bullsh*t.
I've also learned that a church service can turn into a nut session, with people crying and wailing for 45 minutes out-of-the-blue and for no goddamn reason. This type of behavior is why I left one of my favorite services, because it transitioned from actually talking about stuff to endless cry fests and the pastor saying, "Praise Jesus!" over and over again. "These people are f*cking crazy!" was my sentiment, and yes, I was still a believer in god when I thought that.
-
I try to go every Sunday...it recharges me for the week ahead.
-
It's been 4 years since I went to church. Before that I was going every Sunday, but during 2006 my favorite aunt died and then 2 months later my Mom died. I haven't been to church since then. Something happened inside me and that feeling I once had about going to church is gone.

Last Sunday 9 to 12

That's what makes mine religion different YOU CAN ASK THEM QUESTIONS AND THEY WILL ANSWER YOU.

Uh-oh.
Stay in the real world and out of church, lynda!
-
Last Sunday....walked away with a renewed spirit and learned about the importance of forgiveness, what it means and what it doesn't...
-
Not in a while lol
-
@Lynda: The people that say stay in the "real world" or people that say be "open minded" are people who either take independence too far or they believe that all they known is the truth regardless of what scandals and corruption goes on. The unbelievers live in a matrix(yes I used a movie term 0_0) and they don't want to acknowledge everything they know is not real.

My grandfathers funeral around 7 years ago.

I don't belong to any organization that partakes in the scandals and corruption you speak of. That would be Catholicism, Mormonism, Islam, and...Jehovah's Witnesses! To name a few. ;)

The matrix you say? Sweet! I've always hoped that science would one day make us one with virtual realities; I didn't know we were there yet!
In all seriousness, your analogies are actually backwards and work against you -- did you realize that?
-
went with my mother for mothers day. go figure

Name some scandals that the JW's are still doing today? And not what they did in the past which they stopped?
Virtual realities equals not real, which reality are you apart of the fake one or the real one? Your either slaves for God or for riches(which the governments and companies apply with stronger and stronger alienation from your family)
not both.
-
I was there 6 years ago and it was a family church before my pasters were deported. It was sad and I didn't go anymore but I practise myself at home. Personally I think it will be terrible without any beliefs for a person. but spritual is more important than religious.
-

Sex scandals against little children on par with the Catholics! And that's funny that you should say "forget what they did in the past", as if that somehow justifies such events. I'm sure Falconer could provide more insider information on this topic.

I am part of the real one. You know, the one that relies on what is observable and testable and is analyzed by the greatest minds.
As for being for either god or riches...I am for neither. My family (which consists of me, my husband, and a future dog someday) is the most important thing to me, followed by seeing and experiencing the world. I could care less about a fancy house or car or a bunch of stupid knick-knacks and in fact by not having these things, that's how we have the money to explore the world to its fullest! ;D
-

Your right it doesn't justify it, but the point is the people that did that got Df'ed maybe not at the time or maybe a little later but they eventually got DF'ed.
This proves that they are imperfect and they stopped doing this unlike the Catholics which still continues to do this.
In short, the JW's stopped everyone else continued, it may not mean a lot to you since you have been out of religion for awhile but that fact alone is something to consider.
-

Hmm, I doubt they've "stopped". Googling "Jehovah's Witness scandal" results in the first 3 pages *filled* with accounts of child sex scandals. The last one I saw was from 2007...not very long ago at all.
And I don't think I've been away from religion that long. 3 years? Meh. That mindset is still pretty fresh in my memory. ;)

Well this is terrible, I have nothing to say, i'm not going to use an excuse here. :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

Its been about a year since I last went, need to back.

Last week I went to church - I realized that in order to maintain my relationship with the Lord, I need to keep up my fellowshiping with other believers. This will strengthen my walk with the Lord and my own heart. That is what church is meant to do.

Which Lord are you talking about there are many Lords in the bible besides Jesus.
Hebrews 10:23-27 Reads 23 Let us hold fast the public declaration of our hope without wavering, for he is faithful that promised. 24 And let us consider one another to incite to love and fine works, 25 not forsaking the gathering of ourselves together, as some have the custom, but encouraging one another, and all the more so as YOU behold the day drawing near. 26 For if we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left, 27 but [there is] a certain fearful expectation of judgment and [there is] a fiery jealousy that is going to consume those in opposition.
Notice verse 26 clearly anyone who really knows the bible and still practices sin makes Jesus sacrifice in vain. This scandals shake my faith but i'm not going to stop.
-
This scandals shake my faith but i'm not going to stop.
It is because our morals do NOT come from god or the Bible that we know such scandals are wrong.

Your morals are still coming from the bible whether you believe it or not. I can understand why some people become atheists due to religious hypocrisy.

its been a few years for me.
-
Last Sunday. Actually Sunday is my favorite day of the week. My husband and I go to church in the morning and evening and it gives me the spiritual food that I need for the week.
-
Your morals are still coming from the bible whether you believe it or not. I can understand why some people become atheists due to religious hypocrisy.
That is very presumptuous of you to speak for my morals. I am correct that the average American's morals do not come from the Bible, otherwise they wouldn't ignore the countless horrible things it instructs us to do (and if you aren't aware of these horrible things, you obviously haven't read your Bible very closely). It is our EVOLVED SOCIETY that dictates most people's morals -- what is generally considered best for the livelihood of most people. We still have a ways to go in some areas (like rights for gays) and obviously there *are* some religious nuts out there that do take their holy books seriously, but in general, I'm so thankful that y'all ARE hypocrites when it comes to the Bible/Koran/etc.!
And I didn't become an atheist because Catholics like to touch little boys (it makes no difference to me what a pedophile's religious stance is). I became an atheist because I wanted to know what people's reasons were for not believing in god, and upon doing a good deal of research on it, opened my eyes to how I'd been deceived by religious claims and how my critical thinking had been in hibernation.

It still comes from the bible, they just changed it, hence the hypocritical in god we trust everywhere etc. The so called new morals that goes against the bible is spoken of in the bible already so your morals STILL come from the bible. I just did a study on the wheat and weeds parable which gives me a better understanding of why bad things happen in religious organizations even if they are or claiming to follow the bible(you yourself must find the religion that follows their holy book the most and then see if the holy book your studying is the least babylonian).
Quote: How my critical thinking had been in hibernation.
Your critical thinking wasn't in hibernation because you went to church, it was in hibernation because you didn't research or meditate on what you read, and thus you were easily deceived into thinking you weren't "thinking critically" by people. Not Everyone that goes to their place of worship are completely uneducated, one of the people I know used to fly American airline planes. Everything you think is new is the same under the sun and it happened already, pornography was around back then(that's were we get the peeping tom idea from), the human eye is the original television and storytelling is also a precursor to the T.V. Birds and some other animals had GPS long before we invented it. People had their version of batteries back then, the Egyptians tried out their own version of the light bulb etc. In time you'll hopefully be deceived less and less by this matrix but I can only hope.

You could randomly pick a book from Barnes & Noble and "read into it" however you like. You seem to be saying here that you think it's perfectly okay that god is a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, and sexist bully. That god TRULY DOES want us to stone and eat our children (to name one of MANY examples), but the fact that we don't do this is just showing "rebellion". Seriously??
Your critical thinking wasn't in hibernation because you went to church, it was in hibernation because you didn't research or meditate on what you read, and thus you were easily deceived into thinking you weren't "thinking critically" by people.
Trust me, during that time I did have instances were I justified things taught by Christianity; I went to Bible studies and even consulted many of the websites believers like to throw around on here. However, you are making grand assumptions once again. One of the keys to why I was able to get away from religion relatively quickly was because I wasn't raised religiously. When a person is not raised religiously, their mind is not tainted and brainwashed from a young age. It's a lot easier to see the bullsh*t if you never grew up having dogma forced down your throat both before, during, and after a stint with religion. Like I've said before, I was an atheist before I decided to give Christianity a try, but the only evidence I had was that I could see no such god in everyday life. When I started to question the many things that simply can never be properly "justified" by religion, I realized I was right all along when I was first an atheist at 13, remembered the day I decided to give god a try on a whim, and recognized it is only because I got swept away by a fun church that I had ever believed at all. ** It was me who realized I hadn't been thinking critically as a Christian, no one else. **
Not Everyone that goes to their place of worship are completely uneducated, one of the people I know used to fly American airline planes.
I never said all religious people are uneducated. Some people can be very bright when it comes to all facets off their life, except they have this compartmentalized crazy when it comes to religion.
I have no idea what your point is here.

:notworthy: WOW ! GREAT WORDS ! I am with you. - I agree all the way. Physically I went to church last night. We had the Monthly Birthday Celebration for our children.
-
I do not remeber what i learned. I hated having to sit still and be quiet. Oh it had to be about 7 or 8 years ago.
-
Last time I've been to church was 5 year's ago when my cousin got married. It isn't because I don't believe in God, I believe there's a God, I just don't believe in religion or tithing...(just so the Preacher can turn around and chastise us about not having strong enough faith and that's why some of us are poor, but they are the one's that are making him rich.)
-
I went when I was younger for certain occasions. I will never ever go again though.
-
It's been about two years since I've been to church and I keep the word of God with me....In my heart! :angel12:
-
:cat: I went to church just last night. We were continuing a study about Elijah (from the Old Testament.) :)
-
Heh, I haven't been to church since going through Confirmation when I was in 10th grade, ~7 years ago.
-
It's been awhile since I have been to church, however I try to watch the sunday service online. my church has it service live online, I enjoy it better watchiing it online, I have 3 kids 2of them under 5 so it take a lot of work getting them ready for church.
