I was in a wedding on Saturday...
My husband and I were both in the wedding party and our 22 month old daughter was the flower girl (advice: <---- This is not a good idea).
I starting thinking and reminiscing after the wedding...My husband and I bought a marriage license, called the rabbi, and got married all in the same day. We invited no one except his sister, my sister in law, my nephew, and our daughter was there with us. We had a five minute ceremony. No mess, no fuss, no hassle. We didn't have to worry about people complaining about our wedding not being good enough or about pleasing anyone other than ourselves. We knew we wanted to get married, we knew we wanted the rabbi to marry us, and we knew we didn't want a big fuss or to be the center of attention. We did it OUR way. We received several complaints after about not being able to see us get married or celebrate with us, but...it was our day.
So...my question is...those of you who are either married or want to be married...how did you or would you like to do it?

Weddings today cost so much money. I was surprised how big of a market it is, and how billions are spent every year. If you love someone, you couldn't care less how you get married. I had a big wedding, and if I had it to do over......we would have eloped. You can have a small tasteful wedding without breaking the bank. Why have all that expense hanging over your head starting out?

My husband & I got married in our living room. We had a very tiny wedding. The way I wanted it. Big weddings have never been my style.

My sister is planning this huge wedding. I never understood them to be honest because i feel that it is a waste of money.

My parents got married by the Justice of the Peace (which I think is eloping). I've help plan a lot of weddings for my close friends, and the amount of money they pay is rediculous, I'll be like my parents and go the way of eloping. Or maybe go to Vegas, get married there and come back and have the reception like my friend Molly did. That way people can miss the wedding but can still come party with us to celebrate.

I would like an extravagant wedding because for some reason, I like extravagant things... but I always think about how much it would cost to have everything I want, and by that time, maybe my interests will change and I might like a smaller wedding.
I don't see wedding ceremonies as a waste of money because (usually) the bride wants to have a perfect day where she can be legally and spiritually bound with the person she loves and wants to spend her life with.
