Post by: ButterflyWings on July 22, 2010, 10:20:57 am
My oldest daughter makes me so proud..The other day we were out doing errands..And we were standing in line and a little girl was talking to my daughter, this girls parent yanked her by the arm and said you do not talk to these kind of people..I was appalled and confused..These kind of people what the hell does that mean..Well my daughter says I am sorry miss I was just keeping your daughter company she was in line alone and she seemed scared no harm..I apologize..To this this woman replies YOU WHITE PEOPLE THINK YOU SO ABOVE US..I can feel my heart pounding in my chest one I see no color two WTF she is speaking to my 12 year old like this..Before I could say anything my daughter blurts out LISTEN Miss I was taught to see no color and I was being genuine in talking to a sweet little girl I am sorry you have issues with white people but you will not change how I was taught to treat human beings..Have a nice day..There was nothing I could say,i was so proud of my daughter..She was respectful to a disrespectful adult and still held her beliefs..I just thought I would share..

wow! cudos to your daughter and to you! i was raised the same way as youve raised your daughter, that there is no such thing as "different colours" in people because every human being bleeds red blood, needs to breath air, needs to eat food, etc.

You have a wonderful and amazing little girl! I am white and my husband is black. My children love him as much as I do. I can't imagine how you must have felt!

Wow!  Your daughter really belted her back!  That's so cool :)  I can't believe that person said that in front of you, but I REALLY can't believe she said it in front of kids.  That's so wrong.   :dontknow:

I am proud of you and your child. You are both beautiful in my eyes!!!! It takes alot to stand up to someone that just doesn't understand how to treat people as human beings, and your daughter is really brave and very intelligent-I see where she got it from!!!

I had to deal with my own brothers racial feelings when I moved in with my husband many years ago. Being a black woman with a white man didn't really fly with his beliefs, so he wrote me a long letter about it. He said some of the most hurtfull things to me, and practically shunned me out of his life.  He concluded the letter as follows: "Well I hope you are happy with your little White Boy in Austin!", among a few other choice harsh words.

My family raised me not to judge people and to be weary of others who want to take advantage of you, but they never ever taught me that I was any different than anyone else and to treat others with respect. I am color blind when it comes to anyone!!!

Of course, the whole situation blew over, as my brother finally realized that I really
loved my husband and he loved me and we were going to stay together-of course it took about 5 yrs for him to come around.

Now that our little girl has been born, my brother is like a completely different person-He is in love with our daughter, and only comes over to my Mom's house when she is there.  I think just by looking at her that he truly realizes that there is no color when you love someone, just love and its creations. Every one of us on this planet have hard times, good times, bad luck, ect. That's no reason for anyone to not speak to eachother!!!

Thank you for sharing this topic, It's a subject that's close to my heart........

You are so welcome tzs..I am sorry you had to go through that..It is really saddening that people can be so hurtful and wrong..I am glad I am raising my kids to think in terms of humans not race..I think it would be a better world if everyone was as loving.. :peace:
