Back before we had the internet (when I was really young) and I couldn't sleep at night I was stuck watching old horror movies. Now, I know some of you cannot imagine NOT having the internet (Oh to be young again - I'm not sure I'd live through it again), but for those of you who are closer to my age (47) what did you find yourself doing when sleep wouldn't come and the internet wasn't there to entertain you?
-
I'm only 26 but when I was younger and I didn't know how to use the computer (lol)...I would ask my mom if we could stay up and talk. She would make us hot chocolate and we talked until one of us fell asleep. :)
-
I cannot imagine not having it either. We have so much more knowledge and news right at our finger tips. E mail is also a great quick way to communicate.
-
There was no time before the internet. I AM the internet.
;D
-
I would usually read a book or comic, or sometimes draw.
-
I'm not *that* old, but I do remember the days before I could access the intertrons. Most restless nights I'd just read, or watch whatever movie happened to be on TV.
-
It's hard to even remember what I did to fill the hours in the day. How did I find recipes or look up medications??? I'm spoiled now and take the computer for granted.
-
jnjmolly, I remember doing that sort of thing, too! :D
I'm also 26, and my brother's eight years older than me. He'd come home pretty late from work when I was younger, and I'd stay up and wait for him, then we'd play Silent Hill and things like that until I'd fall asleep! ::)
-
Play computer games until the wee hours of the morning... I remember doing a 48-hour marathon of Kings Quest.

Well before the internet, I think we mostly had a TV and we interacted more with people face to face. Butt I do love the internet and could not do without it now.
-
Thanks everyone! I'm grateful for the internet so that I can interact with all of you!! Have a great weekend and beyond!!!!

Before I got a computer, I would just watch television and I would fall asleep. The shows I watched late in the night were Duckman, Monstervision, and USA up all Night. There were also those shows from MTV such as The Maxx, Aeon Flux, and The Head.

i wonder how much different teens would be today if the net was never invented or widespread
-
I would read more printed books than digital ones.
-
I can't imagine not having the internet or the internets as Bush would say. I get 80% of my information from the computer.
-
I understand completely, there's alot I wouldn't know if I didn't have access to the internet. I'm afraid we've become a country of people who say "What's a library?" And that's a shame since I used to love going to the library, but now that I'm disabled I feel blessed to still be able to research the information I need just by going online. And I've met alot of great people, mostly here on FC!

TV or reading a book.
-
Let's see watching movies, playing board games, video games, spending time with the family, reading books. The internet just sucks you in if you let it.
-
Love to read, but now, I have a battle sometimes unplugging and picking up a book. The net makes it so much easier to access information and of course FC. I spend way to much time in front of this screen though.

:) :) :)The Internet is the greatest invention of all times...I read the news, participate in forums, watch new and old movies and listen to music.
-
I've thought about this a lot. I was trying to imagine what I'd be doing right now if no internet. I guess I'd be doing a lot more housework and probably going for long walks like I should.
It's a little bit scarey to think about what would happen if it all of a sudden went away.
-
I have pretty much stopped watching tv or talking on the phone...
-
Watched a lot of re runs on tv back then versus now

Wow, this could be a long post...I used to
> Watch TV
> Listen and record music off the radio (recorded on cassette tapes)
> Transcribe song lyrics and movie scripts (from memory)
> Go to the bookmobile to check out books and read them
> Play with friends - midnight ghost, neighborhood tag, kick the bucket, basket ball (well,... HORSE)
> Rode my bike to the park - played tennis at the park (or tried to)
> Got friends together to try to build a park in an empty lot near our house
> Tried to train our dog, and raised some wild rabbits for a while (as pets, not food)
> Helped my mom with house chores (cleaning, laundry), and learned to cook/bake
> Played with my siblings - invented games like hospital, factory, restaurant where we each played a part
> Played card games with real cards, and board games
> Played Atari games
> Played in my brother's fort
> Created "home" videos before it was vogue
> Disassembled broken toys to see how they worked, and tried to fix them
> Took dance lessons and music (instrument) lessons
> Transcribed music from cassette tape - for both piano and clarinet
> Talked with friend "covertly" using CB radios
> Dad taught me how to make compasses out of a battery, wire, styrofoam, water and a needle - also taught me how to fix up old pianos (he did piano/organ sales and repair)
I'm sure if I thought a little harder, I'd think of more stuff I used to do... ;D

WOW, I am damned impressed!!! Oh to have even a quarter of your memory. Bless you!
