I sign up for a paypal account but I don't like a few things they need. They said I would have to use my checking account, debit or credit card number to use with the paypal account. But I don't like the ideal giving that out. I was hopeing you could open account and they would send you a debit and have their own account they put your money in. My question is could someone tell me about paypal and how it works.

Giving your checking/debit/credit card info is how you verify your account. If you choose not to do this, you can still use your account but there will be limits. You can collect up to $1000 per month, but $0 will be your spending limit. Cash will sit in your account but you can't use it to purchase things. With a verified account, the limits are removed. You will also be able to send money from your PayPal account to your checking account and vise-versa.

I've used paypal for years and never had a problem with them. I buy and sell on Ebay and it's a requirement.
Some people if they don't feel comfortable having all that info out there open up a separate bank account just for paypal and don't keep any money in it.

i say paypal is really reliable most of the time like 99.9% but i was 0.01% and i had an error with ebay so i had to pay for the misunfortune of the item and more it was only 16$ but it came out to like 54$ jeez.. alot right?

i have used paypal for years and never had any problems whatsoever.

Paypal is safe and reliable, it's better to use for all online transactions. I wish all ptc and gpt would use it. :peace:

it's safe.
i actually am glad they do that, it keeps scammers more at bay. people that are scamming are less willing to give actual account information out. SO if you're a seller looking for payment on an auction item or something, it's a little more piece of mind.
you can have a paypal account without a bank account linked, but with severely limited functionality

Paypal used to be reliable, but they are getting harder and harder to do business with, at least for sellers. I personally haven't had any problems with them, but I've heard of other sellers having their funds put on hold, etc. It affected me one time, because I ordered something from someone and tried to pay by paypal, but they said that paypal had frozen their account and then I had to go out and get a money order to pay for the item.

I have used Paypal since their inception, and have never had one problem with them, either as a seller or a buyer. my only argument with them is using the GreenDot cards if you want to have a second/alternative form of deposit. I discovered recently that those cards are NOT reloadable...and you have a $4.95 fee every time you buy one, as a result.

I've never had any problems with Paypal. Just give them your information and you won't have to worry about it. However, sometimes I get spam emails from people claiming to be from Paypal, but the logo doesn't look right and the English is off. Don't listen to them. They want your info so they can have a field day! Go right to the official website to change your info.

Articx isright-the limits are the only bad thing about Paypal if you don't give them the information they want. I've been using them for years and I've never had a problem-they seem pretty honest about things. They should! They make a ton of money on their fees to sellers!

I have been using it awhile and i feel safe giving them the info than anyone else.

I don't have that problem at all. Been with them for years now. They just want to verify your information only. Everything you open there will be term of agreement.

Having a verified account means you can transfer money from your paypal account into your bank account so you can always have money.
-
I have to disagree on the limits thing. I verified mine, when I had a bank account and there was still a limit. I do believe they will mail you a check as well.

I have been using Paypal for 7 years+ now and I have never had any problems with them. They just need your account info to verify that it is you and your account. It is really convenient because a lot of online places use paypal. You can get a paypal debit card that connects to your account to use like a regular debit card.

I haven't had any problems with PAYPAL. Nor has there been any problems with giving them my bank acct number in order to become verified.
When you go through the process of verifing your account, PAYPAL will send you 2 very small payments (couple of cents), and you will be asked to tell PAYPAL what those amounts are. That's how they confirm that you have access to the account and the account can receive funds. You don't have to send the money back, so you get a couple of cents for your trouble.
It is important to have a verified account -- not just to be able to buy things via PAYPAL -- but also to get the money in your account out (ie sent to your bank account) It's also important because many PTC/GPT sites require that you have a verified PAYPAL account before you can use PAYPAL to receive cashout amounts.

That's a great idea. I'm also hesitant giving PayPal access to my bank accounts. Do you know if the paypal credit card requires a link to your bank account ?
