I live in colorado on the news they told how u can get a medical marijuana card for head aches.... I believe marijuana is a stepping stone for much worse things... I do believe it is helpful for some REAL conditions... Our 18 year old neighbor has one for pain in his shoulder... What do u think?
-
People will find a way to circumvent any law they want to. I think that marijuana is like alcohol, food, gambling, sex, shopping, stealing or ANY vice for that matter and if people want to misuse it then they will. :sad1:

GA needs to open its eyes to the sweet thing going on out west ;D

thank you for this! for years, i have wondered why no one (except my husband) agrees with me about this. i have not smoked in a few years, but when i did i was always harassed by my family about it being "gateway" and that it was going to lead me to worse drugs and crime. it irritated the crap out of me because i had a relative that ended up on that road from prescription medication and no one gave her a hard time.
for the record, i started smoking pot because i was working graveyard shift and found it very difficult to sleep during the day so instead of getting addicted to ambien i smoked a bowl 3 or 4 nights a week. i have not done any other drugs, very rarely drink (like once a month) and have never been arrested.

I also live in CO and so I hear about this on the news pretty much every day. People are going to smoke it whether they have their medical card or not, it's just a matter of it being legally taxed or it being an "underground". I know people who have their card for actual medical reason, I know people who have it just so they can grow and/or be in possession of a certain amount without getting in trouble. People could be doing a lot worse drugs than pot.

well you know what....lets just legalize everything! why not? it's one thing after another in this country and others....people decide, 'hey it's not so bad' and then enough people say it and it becomes a political issue and the government fights for so long until finally it can't fight anymore. the people want what the people want....and quite frankly the people are idiots.
ok, people are gonna prostitute whether it's legal or not...so let's legalize it. people are gonna smoke dope whether it's legal or not...so let's legalize it. teenagers are gonna get drunk whether it's legal or not...so lets legalize a lower drinking age....
let's just skip right on over all this crap and legalize every immoral, unhealthy, reprehensible, and lewd behavior out there! it will sure save time, let's give evolution a hand....let's spur on the evolution of our species morals. apparently evolution is taking us to no morals....by natural selection, evolution is weeding out every unnecessary value and moral code. i can't wait to see what else evolution has in store for us!! maybe in the near future i can pimp my children out as a career! :o won't that be exciting??!

and you called me uneducated and juvenile? WOW

Most of the time marijuana does lead to other drug use, not too mention other illegal acts. Can't blame marijuana, but the stupid people. And with as many stupid people there are in the world legalizing it would not be good IMO.
-
It's just not a good idea. There are too many people who are not responsible enough or do very dumb things without being drugged. I shudder to think about some people trying to function after they have smoked pot.
-
I think people are going to do it if they want to-why not regulate it? It's not as bad as alcohol or cigarettes, we can tax the crap out of it and get rid of this deficit, and it will remove a lot of people from jail, saving tax money that way. It will get rid of a lot of the illegal activities on the streets because people won't want to take the risk of buying it illegally when they can get it from the grocery store without the risk of being arrested. The drug dealers will be phased out and street crime will take a drop (not disappear because there are other things they can do too, but this is a biggie). There WOULD have to be laws to be enforced-it would have to be a lot like alcohol-no public intoxication, you can't sell it to minors, must be 18 or 21 to get it and use it, etc. I guess I just don't see the harm. We allow alcohol, guns, and stupid people the option to reproduce-there are worse things in society!
-
Medical use needs to be approved country wide! It has been proven to relieve alot of chronic pain. I also believe that we need the ability to become licensed to grow and sell locally for medicinal purposes. Tghis has been too long in coming because of the 'gateway' argument, but anyone who does go on to harder things probably would have done them anyway. Some people are just dependent by nature.
-
I believe that the main reason marijuana is seen as a gateway drug is because it is illegal. People do it, it doesn't hurt them, they think "hey, that's not so bad" and since they've already done an illegal drug, why not try a worse one? If it were legal it wouldn't be any worse than alchohol or cigarettes as far as being a gateway drug.
-
I don't know...Using herb for headaches, that's just stupid...a couple of Tylenol should help that, but if you suffer from debilitating migraines, then maybe yes.
-
in CA it's pretty much legal bc you can claim here that you stubbed your toe and get pot. Although Fed law prohibits this drug under the Obama admin. he intends to do nothing about it.

and you called me uneducated and juvenile? WOW
well, i came back on this thread today to apologize because i was in a bad mood when i posted my last comment and i was unnecessarily sarcastic. but i came across this and i just wanted to ask, what exactly do you perceive uneducated about my comment? and of course the sarcasm was uncalled for but i wouldn't have called it juvenile, but that's my opinion.
so what exactly is uneducated about it? did i read a fake article about lowering the drinking age? hmmm let's see, is this a fake thread about an issue that doesn't really exist? or is the other thread about prostitution irrelevant and no one is really considering legalizing it?
you see because, i would assume that your saying i'm uneducated, would mean that my cause for concern is based on ignorance of the issues....so please explain...

nope nothing uneducated but kind of juvenile in your comparison of weed being legal and pimping out kids i never said you were uneducated you said i was uneducated and juvenile legalising weed has nothing to do with morals i have plenty of morals and so do other people i know with jobs houses cars kids everyday people who happen to smoke weed and for what its worth i havnt smoked weed in a long time but to me having it illegal is just wrong and petty
-
granted smoking weed to pimping children is a big jump. but i think my concern is legitimate when you think back to even 50 years ago, the things that were considered immoral and illegal. so, as time has gone on and people have pushed the moral envelope continuously....more and more has become acceptable. and along with the accepting of little things here and there also came, more crime, more sexually transmitted diseases, more teen pregnancies, more homeless people, more divorces,...and the list goes on.
right now legalizing pimping children sounds absolutely ridiculous and quite frankly disgusting but since everyone's morals are based on what society as a whole deems acceptable...who is to say this won't be the case in the future? in my opinion, the only thing that keeps everything from falling into moral chaos is the many christians who fight back to preserve the values that strike chords with them.
you can disagree with that but that's my view point.
-
Everywhere prostituition is legal sexually transmitted diseases are down. why? because its bad for bussiness. prohibition created more crime. marijuana cocaine were legal at one time but when you make it illegal it creates more crime this is just the way it is. if you make weed legal the crime stats would go down.
As for my statement when you reffered to me as uneducated and juvenile Perscription drugs are so much more a scourge on society than weed ever could be. Pharmaceutical companies and doctors and pharmacies all make huge amounts of money getting people addicted or physicly dependant on drugs. Whens the last time you watched the news and heard of a celebrity going to rehab for thier weed addiction?
I do not base my morals on anything society deems acceptable nor do i base my morals on what christians deem acceptable i have a mind i know whats right i know whats wrong and that is how i live my life
-
i agree about prescription drugs. people abuse themselves with all sorts of things, that doesn't mean making currently illegal things legal makes it all better.
and who gave you that mind to determine right from wrong?

my ancestors were monkeys i can now reason and think for myself :peace:

you didn't answer the question. how do you explain your ability to reason? where did your "mind" come from? saying you came from a monkey does not answer the question.

All i know is i was born with a brain and over time my brain developed and voila i had the ability to reason and think and learn, quite an amazing thing the human brain.
Where did you get your ability to reason and where did your mind come from? i think i know your answer and shame on me for biting lol :peace:
-
well your brain is physical, doctors can see your brain and touch it, run tests on it....but they don't know your thoughts, they can't see them or touch them. they could take your brain right out your head and cut it open and would they be able to poke around in there and say "oh that's were muush thought about smoking pot in 1985" NO
of course you knew where i was going and you can't explain it....ALL YOU KNOW IS...you were born with a brain. why are christians chided for not knowing why they believe what they believe but the shoe is on the other foot and you can't explain to me how it is your capable of being a conscious thinking person?? i guess it's because you have faith in evolution...you don't know why you believe it just "feels right"
ok well, i won't continue on because it's gotten off topic but i think i made my point.

i have never chided anyone for believing in what they believe. i just dont like hypocrits liers cheaters who hide behind religion to make it ok for them. your a christian and im not who cares if i saw ya on the street id say hello. If you rang my doorbell and handed me literature id tell you to beat it. And back on subject have you ever smoked weed?

big difference between use and abuse

big difference between use and abuse
DMAL just became my favorite person of this thread. People abuse what is legal and illegal. It doesn't matter. The guy down the street who is a junkie is going to be a junkie no matter what. For people who know their limitations, whether it be alcohol, weed, sex, prostitution, etc. etc. it would be a big leap. People who are going to abuse it will no matter what. We might as well save taxpayers money and at least decriminalize it, if not legalize it.

big difference between use and abuse
I second that agreement

Everyone always states these imaginary benefits to smoking weed when there is none.
It cures cancer? NO it doesn't, is can relief pain but that is all it does to add cancer patients.
It doesn't kill? No this is correct there the has never been a recorded overdose of weed. BUT there have been DUI's related deaths....(driving under the influence of marijunana).
It will help the economy and lower crime? WOW.....really! No, if they do tax it how much do you think this will do to a economy that can barely pay its bills now.
Do you think marijuana willbe cheaper then it is on the street? NO so why would it effect crime?
IDK....you got to be high to think there are benefits to it.

Can I ask you a personal question hwilliams? you don't have to answer, or course, but have you ever smoked it before?

I'm not sure about this one :-... I don't believe that marijuana is any more dangerous than alcohol, but alcohol is legal. So should alcohol NOT be legal since marijuana isn't? Some say it's a gateway drug...don't believe it :bs:...I smoked for several years and never wanted to do cocaine, heroin or any other drugs. If you are only looking to get high at any means possible, maybe. :dontknow: For me it was really just a way to "de-stress", "chill out" or relax which is same reason some people drink alcohol. I think the affects of smoking mj is different for everyone, just like drinking alcohol. Some people become crack heads or alcoholics while others like myself quit smoking and go on with life. :peace:

I really disagree with the concept of marijuana being a "gateway drug" to harder substances. That really depends on the person. There are more than plenty of people who use marijuana but never even consider getting into the harder stuff; because honestly, marijuana is not as harmful to the human body as it has been mythologized to be. In fact, over-the-counter medication is more harmful than marijuana. Alcohol and cigarettes are much, MUCH, worse for the human body, yet ironically enough they're the ones that are legal and marijuana isn't. The only true problem with marijuana is that when consumption is abused, people not only become physically but mentally lazy as well. This is only reason why I still don't agree with legalizing marijuana, but keeping it for medicinal purpose is something I'm definitely behind because I'm a patient myself lol.
-
Marijuana is NOT a 'gateway' drug. What leads to people trying marijuana, meth, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. is something everyone has in common...it's called CURIOSITY. Some people wonder about drugs, but never actually try them and some people don't. It's our own choices that lead us other things. I had never tried anything, or even really wanted to until after I was 18. The first thing I ever did was drink a beer. Wow, big deal. I didn't become an alcoholic or anything, and even to this day I RARELY touch alcohol. I don't smoke cigarettes, and can't stand them. I don't abuse prescription pills, or buy them illegally. And I don't buy alcohol/tobacco for people underage. As far as marijuana goes, I tried that a couple years AFTER I had initially had my first beer. So the argument of it being a gateway drug is total bs. Now if you're somewhere trying to get some weed, and there are people there trying to get you to try other drugs, if you're weak when it comes to peer pressure, then you may try them & potentially become addicted or just move on from pot to the harder drugs. But again, that is a personal choice to give in and try them. Marijuana is not what made you try them. YOU are what made you try them. And when it comes to becoming addicted to 'harder' drugs, that can also have a lot to do with your body. Some people are more susceptible to becoming addicted than others are.
But I must say, that some people just shouldn't be smoking marijuana.

Don't forget about the fact that second hand cigarette/cigar smoke can cause damage to others who have never touched one themselves. Thus resulting in lifelong nonsmokers being diagnosed with emphysema, lung cancer, throat cancer, etc. Marijuana has no such consequence. And to even get a 'second hand' buzz from weed, you'd have to be breathing in fairly large amounts. Alcohol also effects those around the drinkers, especially when the drinkers are either alcoholics, or drink and drive.
Use and abuse of any substance is always a key factor. There are medicines available otc that can produce a type of 'high' when taken in large enough amounts, and they are available to virtually any age group. I think most people who are so anti-marijuana are people who have never tried it, and instead of just been "poisoned" against it instead of deciding for themselves. Smoking weed and drinking alcohol can be done responsibly, but the same cannot be said for tobacco. Just sayin..
-
if you smoke weed, you'd get why people want to legalize it. if you smoke weed and are still not sure whether it should be legalized, then stop doing things are not sure of, you are just giving something that people enjoy a bad name.
