Title: This made me sick
Post by: amyrouse on October 17, 2010, 09:12:27 pm
My mother posted this on Facebook, and I wanted to share it here.  I found this to be revolting...that people would actually place a bumper sticker like this on their car!

NOTE: I am not posting this to attack anyone of any religion.

I denounce anyone who thinks that "Psalm 109:8 bumper stickers-Prayer for Obama" are cute, funny and/or appropriate regarding any sitting President. Regardless of your feelings for the man himself, he IS our President, and deserves respect for that alone, if... nothing else. Any conscientious person who thinks otherwise should be ashamed!

This is the prayer I object to:

109th Psalm that follow verse 8:

o May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership....
o May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.
o May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes.
o May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor.
o May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his fatherless children.
o May his descendants be cut off, their names blotted out from the next generation.
o May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord; may the sin of his mother never be blotted out.
o May their sins always remain before the Lord, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

That's ridiculous! This man is our president no matter whether we like him or not and a Christian should be praying that God give him wisdom while he runs our country....not pray for his death. God would not answer that kind of prayer anyhow.

There are "Pray for Obama" slogan products that bear an alternative scripture reference: 1 Timothy 2:1-2, which reads in the NIV:

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone

For kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

It's my understanding god also doesn't answer the prayers of children with childhood cancer.

Yes, he is our President, and while I don't agree with his leadership, I'm admonished to pray for the leaders of my country regardless.  This is inappropriate.

I like what I found at the end of an online article better:

I'm not surprised this is in the bible nor am I surprised this is on a bumper sticker. Extreme religious views are hilariously ridiculous. This person needs to get their primitive cursing mumbo-jumbo off the road. It's old, annoying, and bound to get tires slashed by someone who's sick of it.
