Title: Flu Shot, Have you Had Yours?
Post by: robin1128 on October 22, 2010, 07:38:47 pm
I went to the doctor to day for blood work and a check up. And then suprise they gave me a flu shoot. I don't mine shots but it sure did make my arm sore and I felt a little funny afterward. As of now I'm feeling ok. How many of FC people got your flu shoot yet? I do hope it keeps me and my husband both from getting the flu. He had his shot last week.

:cat:  I had mine a month ago.  Our family has had to take them since our children were small, because 2 of our 3 children had JRA (Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis) and had to be protected.  I have asthma and chronic bronchitis so I have to have them now for me, as well as pneumonia boosters.  I won't take the swine flu shot, though.  I don't trust that one yet.

I won't take the swine flu shot, though.  I don't trust that one yet.

The 2009 H1N1/Swine Flu was one of the three strains included in this year's seasonal flu vaccination.  Each year, they include three different strains of flu in each vaccine, based solely on what they believe may cause the biggest impact.  So, if you get a seasonal flu shot this year, you're getting the 2009 H1N1 pandemic strain included.

I was going to get one.  Standing right by the table where they were administering them.  Felt not to get one....don't know why.  Didn't get it.

I got mine and so did my son. The Swine Flu is included this year so I felt it was important. My arm was sore for a few hours, but that was all and my boy didn't complain.

My husband got his at the VA.  He gets one every year but this year he was sick that night.  All better by the next day and what he had wasn't very serious - might have been all in his head.

I never get a flu shot. I believe they are not for me or my family. I also refuse to get the H1N1 shot.
I did get 1 several years ago and it almost killed me. Since then I have decided against it though.

No flu shots for me ever!!!  We don't do shots of any kind for any reason.  Health doesn't come through a needle.

Look up vaccine ingredients and CDC (Centers of Disease Control) Pink Book list of vaccine exipients, etc...

i got mine today.  get it every year--sometimes it hurts, sometimes it doesn't.  i attended a sorority formal in college with a giant bruise showing on my arm b/c i had a sleeveless dress and got the shot a week and a half before the party. it all depends on who gives it to you and what muscles they hit while they are doing it!!!!

My daughter had her second FluMist on Thursday.  My husband and I will be getting ours very soon...quite possibly using the money I get from FusionCash!

I think up to date vaccinations are among the most important things a person can do for themselves and for society.

I don't even like 2go c my Doctor 4yearly visits. Their harassing me 2get me 2come in but I don't feel ready 2go. They better not cut off my meds if I don't go in. It's been several years since I've gotten a flu shot. I stopped getting flu shots when I've come of age. I refuse 2get it b/c when I did, it never failed I got sick. Since I've stopped, I haven't been ill since. I don't usually take meds unless I'm at death doors. I think the main reason why these superbugs w/resistance strains 2meds is b/c we've become wimps. Pop a pill 4every little fever, sniffy nose. The body doesn't have the chance 2process the strain b/4 it's killed off by meds. B4 our bodies can recognize it & build immunity 4that strain. So, should that same strain come back, your body has no defense. Pretty soon we'll need 2b placed in a protective bubble b/c our bodies that don't exercise it's ability 2build immunity against foreign invaders, will lose it or be less effective. Our over protection 4every little virus will make it so that we will be cing more SUPER BUG(S) CASES IN THE FUTURE w/NO CURE. Us or lose it.

There is a difference between bacterial illnesses and viral illnesses.  Vaccines are given for viral illnesses and antibiotics for bacterial.  The issue with superbugs stems from a doctor giving an antibiotic for a viral illness that needs to run its course.  Once you've contracted the flu, antibiotics are not going to cure it.  My daughter recently had hand, foot, and mouth disease, and we couldn't give her an antibiotic for it because it was an illness whose symptoms we needed to treat while the virus ran its course.  Many problems where antibiotics are concerned stem from the advertising done and the basic assumption that when we're sick and go to the doctor, we think we need a prescription to make us better when that is not the way these things should work.  I am a major supporter of all scheduled vaccines, including the flu shot, and a supporter of knowing your illnesses and your body.

For all those who say they got sick despite getting flu shots in the past, just remember this:  The seasonal flu vaccines only have three strains of viruses in them, meaning you're only going to build antibodies/immunity to those three strains should you get a shot.  If there is some other strain of virus going around, or even possibly if a strain included in the shot has already mutated, there's a good chance you're still going to get sick.  Also, the shot doesn't give you instant immunity.  It's possible to get sick before your body builds the antibodies after getting the shot.

I have gotten one for the past two years at work. I had signed up this year to get one (they needed a head count this year) and quit that job and started a new one before I could get it. THEN they were offering one at my new job, but I was too late for the sign up...sooooo, I missed it this year. I don't want to make a special trip to get one at a drug store or the doctor's office. I am too lazy, and besides, I have gotten sick the last two years ANYWAY! It is real easy for me to catch whatever! Guess I will take some EMERGEN-C. :sad1:

I greatly dislike shots ever since I was little  :(  So I just endure the days of the running nose symptom. On another note, it's kinda funny when I get the common cold first at school which seems a little weird.

I don't get flu shots, and haven't for some years. I take all natural supplements and keep anti-oxidents in my system all the time. Since I've been taking all natural supplements, when I do get the flu it,s always been a "normal" or mild case.

Hey, I'm with you on that.  Absolutely no shots of any kind for any reason.  We use supplements of vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, amino acids, EFA's Omega 3's, and Systemic/Digestive enzymes.  We just came back from the presentation of Dr. Joel Wallach called Dead Doctors Don't Lie.  He was talking about how the pharmaceutical industry and medical doctors are killing people, and talks about deficiencies of minerals and vitamins for prevention of diseases.  Some of the stuff he said, we already knew, but other stuff he said, we had no idea.  We are excited about trying his Majestic Earth Ultimate Classic minerals and vitamins.  We already have a good Vitamin D3 (Bio-D-Mulsion) via Biotics Research.  We get that from a local chiropractor.  Plus we have adjustments to keep our nervous system in balance besides having bio-mechanical and structural integrity.

I did not get one and I will never get one. I had got the flu shot one time and it made me so sick, I'd rather have the Flu then go through that again. Frankly a shot where I'm guaranteed to get sick is much worse than the chance that I might get the flu.

Sheeple. Drug testing done by the drug companies that tell you it's safe, when the same exact vaccine when combined with last years H1N1 vaccine has been pulled from other countries. Keep believing the CDC, let me know how this works.

I would have less sheeple comments if the drug companies weren't the ones conducting the testing. Why the hell should I beleive monsanto or some other company when they are the ones testing it. Are there some vaccines that are good, sure but when other countries have pulled THIS EXACT VACCINE from their shelves due to extreme complications, there is zero conspiracy theroy behind it.

Why in the hell would I want to trust some government dolt into putting God knows what into my body when they can't even tell us what's actually in it? Arrogance?? Not even close, it's called wanting to know what is being put into me and since no one can give me an actual answer for a "pandemic" that hasn't actually happened, why would I? Finland refuses to allow for this exact vaccine to be given due to nurological disorders that have risen since it came out. Zero conspiracy theroy there.

Sorry, I'd rather use common sense and go, oh that person is coughing and sneezing, I should stay the hell away from them instead of just putting whatever the world says is good into my body.

And what the hell makes you know what is best for "ourselves and our families", reading your post, it seems YOU'RE the one with arrogance.

Let me guess, you think Floride and Aspertame are good for the body too because someone in the government said it was OK? Yes, that is a sheeple mindest.

You are arrogant.  Especially when you make an assumption about me like you did in your last statement.  Have you actually studied epidemiology and how these diseases are spread?  Are you a board certified doctor or pediatrician?  These people are in their line of work to study what is best for individuals, families, and communities.  I already responded to this here:

The National Network for Immunization website: http://www.immunizationinfo.org/

I've studied Epidemiology and how disease spreads... its some scary stuff.  When I read articles like the one I posted about pertussis, when I see people like Wakefield and how he abused poor children to prove a point, and when I see people like Jenny McCarthy spreading their outdated crap, it makes me sick.  I also feel nauseated when I hear people claim "Big Pharma" is out to make money by lining the pockets of politicians and pushing vaccines on doctors.  The American Academy of Pediatrics...the main purpose of that group is to protect the health of kids!  To think that they would develop an immunization schedule that isn't what is best for kids seems ludicrous to me.  They are constantly updating and revising their publications and recommendations on what is best for children... if there was an issue with vaccines, that would be one of the first things they would jump on.  Notice how the flu shot is not recommended for children under 6 months old?  The studies that they have done religiously have shown that the flu shot is not good for kids that age.  Well, then, if vaccines were bad for the ages they have published the schedule for, would they honestly have recommended those ages based on money alone?  They're rich enough without the bribes!  They specialize in medicine for kids!

If you take a good long look at the list of vaccine preventable diseases on the National Network for Immunization website, how many of them are currently widespread and killing people off?  Now how many of them are deadly?  How many of them have been have been the cause of an epidemic that has thinned out a population?  Take a look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_epidemics.  Guess what is repeatedly on that list... yeah, its influenza.  The flu.  It can be deadly.  Measles, Mumps, Yellow Fever, Typhus, and Polio are also on the list.  Repeatedly.  Large amounts of people have been infected and have died from the spread of those diseases.  We have vaccines to prevent them.  Seems simple to me, especially coupled with the video I posted regarding herd immunity earlier in this topic.

***EDIT***

There has been a recent pandemic... Swine Flu, H1N1, whatever you wish to call it.  It started in Mexico and spread to the US... making it a pandemic instead of an epidemic.  If you personally don't want to take the shot, no one can force you to do so.  It would be best for all involved, though, if you kept your vitriol to yourself.

As of now I'm feeling ok. How many of FC people got your flu shoot yet? I do hope it keeps me and my husband both from getting the flu. He had his shot last week.
i was thinking to get one but last week my father got one and today he got the flu, soo should i get one - i don't know...

I finally got my notice from VA telling me when the flu shots are scheduled this year. Seems like they normally send them out earlier than November.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

I got mine at work earlier this week. It was free, but it made my arm kind of sore. I also had the bad idea to wear a white collared shirt that day, so I needed to get a Band-Aid  :-[

I have never gotten a flu shot.  Don't suppose I will this year either.  I am not around children so I think my exposure will be more limited and I am pretty healthy so gues I will takemy chances again this year too.

No, because I don't want the H1N1, which is now included in the flu vaccination.

:o I have no desire to get a flu shot. I got one a couple of years back; that was the sickest I have ever been. I wasn't sick just overnight, this lasted for a whole week. I decided that I would just take my chances from then on.
But I might change my mind if I ever come down with the Flu. I wonder if there are certain people that should not take the Flu shot. Do any of you know?

I got it last year. I will get it this year if H1n1 is NOT included with it. I am still skeptical about that.  :dontknow:
