some people don't mean to come off as smart asses.
i think lack of emotion while typing is easy to misread
as smart-assness.

don't get me wrong - there are plenty who are on purpose.
i think there are more know-it-alls than smart asses, though  :P

I love smart asses they are typically very funny and clever especially on TV shows when they're scripted

Because it is fun, and there are a lot of ignorant (if not stupid) people that need a little dose now and then to wake them up to real life. Being a smart-*bleep* is fun in the right situation, although it obviously it is not appropriate all of the time. But hey, here's an idea~ TRY IT!  ;D

Have you heard of freedom of speech?  Who are you to judge others?  Let them be a smartass.  For the most part it gives you a good laugh.  Lighten up or you will give yourself a heart attack.

Don't let it get to you. If you make an issue of it you will bring them all out of the closet. Just roll with it and if someone offends you just roll with it or better yet, join in on the smartassness. The best way to quiet a smartass is to be one right back.
