I had that problem myself. I just propped my feet up and tried to stay off them for a bit.

Yes, it is dangerous. Avoid walking too much, put your legs up often and reduce your salt intake- No salt at all... it is the best remedy.

hmm, maybe poor circulation? i've always heard
that putting your feet up will help with this, especially
while sleeping. try stacking some pillows beneath your
knees and rest them that way. i'd even try it when
lounging on the couch, too.
i've also heard that too much salt can cause swelling,
but i've never looked into it. hope your lower body
feels better soon :P

this happened to my dad once and he ended up going to the emergency room. I am not a professional by any means, but I would suggest going to see a doctor about it because it could potentially be very bad.

It happens to me very often. I get massage to get the swelling down. At night, I soak my feet in warm water with grounded ginger for 20 mins. It helps a lot.

:dontknow: I am not exactly sure "why" but how much salt have you been eating? The only reason I ask is because I had to go to a "no salt" diet because I found out that was causing the exact same symptoms for me, but of course the best thing to do would be get advise from a doctor.

Oh Yeah, you better get to the doctor and check it out. you may need a diauretic.

It could be a heart problem, diabetes, Congestive heart failure is one of the most dangerous!!! Go see a doc right away, both illnesses can take your life!!!!!!

Yes, please see a doctor. I don't want to sound alarmist, but it could be an indication of something serious.

If swelling happens to our body, it means some parts of our body is not functioning well or maybe an abnormal flow of the blood. I advise you to see the doctor for further laboratory exam to your urine or blood. Don't drink any medicine which is not advise by a doctor because it might get any worst. If swelling occurs more that 2 to 3 day or more often that probably serious. Hope you get well soon.

I'm not a doctor but I have had this problem before. It used to happen every day but now I rarely have this problem anymore. It stopped happening to me when I stopped eating so much junk food & started eating healthier - veggies, fruit, whole-grain bread, etc... I think the switch from sodas to water & tea helped a lot too. Also, when you are in front of a computer all day, try to stand up & walk a bit every hour or two. If it gets really bad, prop your feet up.

I would suggest you see your family doctor as soon as you can. You need to find out what is causing the swelling in your legs and feet. Just elevating your legs obviously is not helping the problem nor is taking over the counter products. See your doctor now.

I watch my salt. But the swelling does make my legs feel funny. I hope I can see the Dr soon Thanks for the advice :)

I go to to webmd for a lot my answers. Theres a symtom checker you can fill-out and then it will give you possible diagnosis of what could be going wrong. I use this site all the time when my kids are sick.

After reading your post I was wonderin how much salt you use? I went to doctors about this same problem they could not figure out why, I finally cut out salt in my dialy use and no longer have his problem it is just a thought maybe cut down on the salt in your daily food intake.

As usual the FC Forum Folks are on the job caring for their Forum Buddies. Great advice from everyone. One other overlooked cause of swelling could be over the counter medications. Be sure to read the information pamphlet or the side of the package. It will tell you if their might be a reaction with other prescription medicine. You can also ask the pharmacist. :)

I have this problem, for some reason it is worse in the warmer months. One doctor simply told me "this happens to all of us, if we live long enough" I was maybe 50 at the time (now 59) Last year it was so bad (& painful) that I thought my feet & ankles were going to burst, was put on Lasix, told to walk more for the circulation. Keep feet up when setting so the fluids wouldn't gather & flow downward & have a hard time circulating back up. I have a sleep disorder, so not uncommon to fall asleep at the PC, my swelling always gets worse then. In my opinion & experience - yes, see a doctor first & foremost. Follow their instructions, walk but try not to just stand or set in one place for extended periods with feet & legs just hanging down. At work, I would put a small box under my desk to rest my feet on. Be safe, have it checked out because as said in a previos post, it has the potential to be dangerous.

This could potentially be very dangerous. If you have just had a long day and have been on your feet all day, then yes elevate your legs and take it easy for a while but if this is a constant problem, then you need to see your doctor right away. Sometimes the swelling can be caused by high blood pressure, diabetes, which contribute to poor circulation. If you have poor circulation in your legs you could also be having heart problems, clogged arteries. This is definately something serious enough that you should go see your doctor as soon as possible.

It is good to hear that you are planning to see the doctor about this condition, so many diferent medical problems can cause swelling and some can be very serious, hoping everything works out well for you!
