Title: Paper or plastic?
Post by: sommap on February 05, 2011, 09:40:17 am
Do you do paper or plastic at the grocery store.  Or, do you carry your own bags?  I generally use paper bags as I put all my recycling stuff in the paper bags.  I get some plastic ones and use them as garbage bags.  I don't buy the big ones.  This way, I am recycling both the paper and plastic.

I use the plastic bags at the grocery store.   I reuse them whenever I go to a store in my area that requires you to bring your own bags.  I also use them for all the small trash cans in the house.

i work at a geocery store and this guy always came in and wanted paper bags, but wanted paper bags inside the plastic bags. his reason was to give the paper bag handles. it was very annoying to bag for him and i wanted to punch up in the face :BangHead:

There is a Walgreens next to my college so when I walk in, I have my backpack with me. I use that to carry the stuff I buy, but will sometimes take plastic bags which I later use at my home for trash.

Plastic, then use as garbage bags, extra bags recycle. Neat we just got recycling trash cans from the city.

The grocery store that I go to has recycled/recyclable plastic bags that I reuse for the kid's lunches and picking up after my dogs.  I would use a cloth bag except for my dog's poop-pick-up needs and I have yet to not use a plastic recyclable bag more than once.  I also recycle aluminum cans, not afraid to pick them up while I am walking and make an extra couple of hundred dollars per year.

We use the re-usable bags.  We  them.  They hold so much more than a regular paper or plastic bag, which also means less trips to and from the car.  They're also so much easier to carry.

They usually cost a buck to buy at the store and pay for themselves after using them 20 times.  After that, you actually profit from using the bag.  At least around here, Kroger and Target take $0.05 off your receipt for EACH bag used when checking out.

You just need to make sure to throw them in the washer periodically on the gentle/handwash cycle to keep them clean.

I purchase the bag at the store and when I remember them, that's what I use and I give them away to others too... I do my best to avoid plastic but you can't sometimes.  :female:

I use plastic because I use the bags as trash bags for my smaller garbage cans in the house.  However, if anyone knows of other ways to recycle or save in having to use those bags, please let me know.  Thanks.

Whichever is fine with me. The supermarket I go to often use plastic bags. If only I knew where to recycle paper and plastic bags, I would use and recycle them. Like yourself, I usually use plastic bags for garbage and reuse paper bags for other things.

I use both. I like my cold and frozen items in the plastic and my dry and canned goods in paper. I also recycle. The paper bags come in handy for magazines and newspapers and plastic bags make great small garbage liners.

I get paper only to use to put sacked potatos in, so they will stay good, and then plastic because I reuse these bags for many things, mostly garbage bags, or for holding thems in the closet, ect.

I choose plastic if I forget my cloth bags.

I use the plastic bags for my own garbage can liners and I take extra plastic bags to my job.  We use them there as garbage can liners too.

I am trying to remember my own cloth bags every time I go grocery shopping.  Our local store even gives a $.05 rebate for each cloth bag used!

My grocery store actually has a bin for used plastic bags.  I have no idea where they go.  My newspapers are almost always in small plastic bags.  They are ideal if you have a dog and have to pick up after them.  I don't have a dog, but one of my paper delivery persons asks for the bags back and he reuses them.  I get papers from two different cities and will often find both of my papers in the bags for the same city.  It saves the paper delivery person a few dollars.

I take my own bag, but when its not enough, i take plastic and use those as garbage bags. Paper's just too hard to carry (in my opinion at least)
