I'm sitting here listening to the news and Texas is thinking about starting a 4 day school week. They are trying to save money on the education budget. What are your opinions about this issue.

Try it if it works. The education system we have is failing miserably and something needs to be done to change it.

It is sad that we always aim for cutbacks in the education area. I think there are other ways that could be less important than our kids education fund. :angry7:

Why don't they cut back on the big honcho bosses jobs that are making thousands and thousands of dollars. I'm sure they'd save a lot of money doing that. Not to say that the education they're giving right now is great, but as hard as it is in five days, don't you think it'll only get harder with 4 days. I mean, come on now.

I don't think having 3 days off every week would be a good idea.

well they were looking at 3 different options; have a 4 day school week, cut funding in the extracurriculars, or cut teachers and have bigger classroom sizes.
I do agree that maybe some of the higher officials should take a pay cut but i doubt they would do that.

Having worked with the school system. I can tell you that children going to school 4 days a week is not going to do the children any good. Some of the places they need to look at is cutting some of the admin staff because everyone has one job no sharing. My son goes to a school were they have a full time person that only does attendance. When I was in school the teacher took attendance then they went to the office. At his school this person gets them. This is all he does. Also when we were in school the bus stoped at every other street not everyone. That would save some monies. Also out source of children cost a lot to, so maybe the schools needs to keep the children in their school and find solutions to the behavioral issue in the school not ship the child to another school.
Another thing what are the parents to do with these children the extra day a week. They have to work, it maybe ok for the older children but what daycare or afterschool programs is going to run one day a week they would not make any money. And the parents will have a to find daycare or not work so it may save the school some money but it is going to cost the families more money.
