I recently lost my good paying job of 15 years due to outsourcing. Has anyone else joined the ranks of the unemployed in the last month or so?

I recently lost my good paying job of 15 years due to outsourcing
I am sorry to hear that, I know it is happening more and more these days. :(
My dad's company sold out last month. He had been there 30 years and is having no luck finding a new job. Apparently no one wants a 50 year old with 30 years experience under their belt.
-
yup. im in the same boat. lost my job and now I dont even know wherer to start
-
As of the end of May, I am losing my job. :(
-
I haven't had a job since December 2008; I've been applying like crazy (to anywhere that's hiring), but no luck so far. It does suck though, when you lose out to a teenager (because they can justify lower pay for them).
-
I am fortunate to still have my job but I honestly feel like we are constantly fighting to not be outsourced. I do IT work but our company is worldwide and has a service desk in Manila too. They get paid something like $40 a day so that does not even translate to minimum wage in the states. Supposedly our department has the quickest turn around time on issues so that is why they have kept us but everyone once in awhile we'll get asked for step docs etc which we all know is being handed over to them.... :confused1:
-
I'm fortunate to have a jerb, but I've also been applying like crazy at other places since I've outgrown my current jerb. Been searching for over 2 years now on and off. Contract work here and there, but there's barely anything. :(
I hope you all are doing okay and using the job-search feature under the .15 cent daily thing.

My friend works at a walgreens pharmacy and they're doing something similar. The whole idea is to just pay less by outsourcing but they forget the customer care aspect-- those people in different countries aren't next to the counters and they can't directly interact with the technicians as close as an employee standing right there. All they have is a system to look at, and those systems are never perfect. It's very stupid and he's pissed beyond belief that he might get laid off.

That sucks! You're a teacher, right? Are they cutting your program or something? Because they're doing that around here too. They laid off 1000+/- teachers in the districts south of me.

I actually teach in a small private school and yes, they are making changes and cutting back some. Unfortunately, new admin (less qualified than the retiring one) is coming in and bringing a couple of friends which means since I am newer and part-time one of the friends wants my job. I don't think its right. Thanks for asking Falconer. :)

Exactly and I know they try real hard to speak English but you can't understand them half the time! And I don't want to seem discriminatory but I get worried with how much access they have to our information, address, sometimes social security info, credit cards or check info. If another country really wanted to come in and tear us down all they have to do is continuously save our info them bam hit everyone at once.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you find another one soon and best luck to you. I'm been unemployed for 4 months here. Now I'm not looking for any right now. Will start next month.

Ugh...that sucks. My bro's gf may lose her job due to lack of funding for her program- she works for special education. I don't know how or why they'd lay her off if these kids are in DIRE NEED of interpreters and aides. How are the kids going to go to school if they're deaf or suffer from bad ADD? It's ridiculous, but at the same time the state is broke so my hands are tied on a solid opinion. Anyway, you're not alone. I'm sure you'll find something on or near par with what you're currently doing, so chin up!

I was unemployed since December of '09 but I recently started working three weeks ago for the public transportation in my area. It's a lot to learn but it's going great so far. The rest of you just have faith that you'll find something. If you worry to much about it then you'll stress yourself out. I never worried, I just relied on myself. I know I have the skills to perform the job I was applying for so the rest as I put it was in the hands of the people who interviewed me. If they saw a good thing in me then so be it, if not then I moved on to the next job I applied for until I got hired. Don't give up. Each of you will eventually find something worth while and that pays really good. Just be patient.
-
I'm unemployed. I've been looking for a job for about a month. I've never worked before though.
-
I am currently unemployed. I graduated from high school about a year ago and since then have had one job that I kept for about 2 months. It was within walking distance of my house. I actually quit that job since they cut my hours down to "we'll call you if we need you". Only about 2 months later the place went out of business. I've looked around close to where I live but recently only 2 other places look like they would hire me (both already have too many people working). Then a new business opened up about a week ago and thought I may drop by and try. I don't have much in transportation right now (just my own two feet). Other than that I've been investing into silver (bought about 800 dollars worth when it was 26-28 dollars/ounce).
-
im soo unemployed,i hope it gets better for me very soon.
-
i am sorry! that is terrible! i recently joined mommyhood and now i am unemployed. i am a stay at home mommy and wife full time!
-
As of Friday, May 20, I, too, am unemployed. Not the best of timing either. However, I know I have subbing lined up in the schools in my area this fall.
-
Yes, I'm looking for work, I'm in school though..

I was for two years..... Then I found a job and it's not paying much better then nothing right
-
I am unemployed! I have sent out my resume to several sites online. Companies are not hiring and if they are they want to pay little or nothing. It is so depressing to there. I know the people who have jobs should be very thankful.
-
Yes, I'm unemployed now. After working for a video distribution center for the past 3 years, I was let go during a mass layoff last month. I've been looking but haven't found anything yet.
Best of luck to everyone here and hopefully we'll all find something soon.
-
After 11 years working with the City of Jacksonville, Fl in March I was laid off from work due to a budget cut. It's sad that so many of us are losing our jobs, but I know that things will be getting better soon.
-
I have been unemployed for 11 years and I hope to STAY that way for a long time.
-
I've been unemployed since last fall. I had been with my job for almost 7 years. It's tough finding something new.
-
I have been unemployed for 11 years and I hope to STAY that way for a long time.
My prayers that your unemployed status remains successful for many, many years!
-
Yes and actually I have not really ever been employed at least on a weekly basis I have done things like election judge but otherwise no I hope this economy gets better because I honestly can not take this anymore
-

I was voluntarily unemployed (thought I could find a new job) but ended up working a the library part time. Love it and never knew a job could be so fun. My husband works as a driver for a non profit driving older folks to their doctor appts. It is very satisfying for him I think....miss hanging with younger people a little but I think it is one of the more worthwhile jobs he has had. Plus he has lots of time to write while he is waiting for them.
-
I lost my job in April, was able to find one through a temp service- but they keep calling and telling me there is not enough work, come back tomorrow-this week I will have only 2 days- if they don't call again
-
Yeah! I have an interview next Tuesday. Little far to drive but hopefully it will pay off! Keep me in your prayers!
-
I've been unemployed for several years. I'm now self-employed for online work.
-
Yes i am uneployed. But i guess you could call me a homemaker. I take care of my daughter. I was laid off due to lack of work, from a job i worked at for 3 years. They didnt even tell me they were going to lay me off either. They just stopped putting me on the schedule and just phased me out from my job. ???
-
Yeah! I have an interview next Tuesday. Little far to drive but hopefully it will pay off! Keep me in your prayers!
Well, it wasn't the right one. Didn't seem like a good place to work for me. Everyone there was frowning the whole time. Praying for another opportunity soon.

I just saw this thread and read through it. I am sooo sorry to hear that because I know you are one of those teachers that really cares. My grandson's school is also closing due to horrible mismanagement by the people that took it over 2 years ago. It is a wonderful small school and has fantastic teachers. The last day of school is always Grandparents Day and I cannot tell you how sad it was to see my grandson and the rest of the kids saying goodbye. When you have a little guy (grandson) who was looking forward to starting 2nd grade there next year crying his eyes out because he can't, along with all his friends now being split up, it had me almost sobbing. :'( There will be a place for you somewhere else - caring people to teach kids are not a dime a dozen in this world today.
-
I feel I'm about too, luckily I still got a job, just barely. I work 2 days a week, 8 hours total, but that's not even enough to pay my bills :sad1:
-

That sucks. You might be able to apply for unemployment though depending on what state you live in.
...But I just got laid off! You'd think I'd be mad, but I'm really not. I actually walked out happy knowing I don't have to deal with the awful drive, the awkward workloads, the pointless drama I was constantly trying to avoid, and the deadly winter cold and hellish summer heat . That place is crumbling at the moment and I feel really bad for the people who work there right now. Onward to better things I suppose. :)

That's really sad. There are many administrators who never take these poor children's hearts and reactions into consideration when they make some of their decisions. Of course my heart feels for the students and what they are having to go through. It makes it hard for you, too, when it's your own grandson.
Thank you for what you said; that really means a lot to me. There is another private school but they are filled. I at least had them put me on the sub list and the list of potential teachers if another were to leave. I'll probably end up subbing in the public schools this fall. However, to save money, most of them are using their Para Pros as subs and there are many ex-teachers and subs that are not being used just so they can save money. It's so different being a sub when you are so used to being a regular teacher with your own class. This is kind of hard, the not knowing, and actually being in a situation where there are cut-backs. Maybe it's time to make a career change....

I am sorry that you lost your job. Finding a job is a full time job in itself.

Isn't that the truth!!

:sad1: yes, that's what made me look up sites like this.

I have been out of work over a year except for Temp jobs here and there, and the little money I make reading emails and doing surveys( but it has helped) I was hired at a retail store three weeks ago, but can not start until business picks up ??? I guess around Christmas time. I have an interview Thursday for a part-time job so I have my fingers crossed. I'll take anything right now. I miss having a paycheck :crybaby2:
-
I taught for 12 years. I quit after having my youngest child, my children are a year apart. I wanted to be a stay at home mom. Then to help with bills, I started babysitting. I am divorced now and it is a struggle. I went back to work part-time ( as a sub teacher). I would like to go back full time since both of my children will be in school. They have major budget problems where I live.. not hiring teachers or parapros ( which I would take a job as a parapro if needed). As a matter of fact, they county I live in is getting rid off 25 parapros jobs. I hope to find something full time, but it may not be in teaching and I'm okay with that.

We are kind of in the same boat with the teaching and the parapros.

I lost a job due to layoffs, took a much less paying job & now my hours are being cut & I am afraid that I am going to lose this job also. THis is so scary & I have 2 children to feed. Don't know what to do...
-
Haven't worked since Feb 09' but I do have some source of income coming in from school. I've been debating whether to look for work now or in Aug when circumstances work in my favor...

I'm sorry to hear of this for you. You've been so encouraging to others in here, including me, and then you're laid off. You have a positive outlook though, and it inspires me with mine. Good luck with your next step. :)
-
I love your attitude!! Jobs are really hard to find here too, even part time jobs... alot of people are having to work 3 of them just to pay their bills. There's an opening at the new job I got because I quit this morning. I got enough of a couple of their smart-mouthed managers treating me like I'm stupid. I probably should have had more patience and hoped that things got better with time but the thoughts of every shift was literally making me sick. I got the job I prayed for so I can't complain...I probably should feel "guilty" for quitting already, but I think life is too short to waste in a job that makes you miserable. So, let us be "onward to better things"!!

Aww thanks, ladies. And yes, I'm not too worried about my current state atm. Glad you're willing to stand up to crappy jerbs. There's always something out there that's much better!

I recently lost my good paying job of 15 years due to outsourcing. Has anyone else joined the ranks of the unemployed in the last month or so?
I have been unemployed since December of last year, when I was working for a family business, when politics started getting involved in the family business. I have been going to college in the meantime trying to get a degree in Computer Networking.
-
i have my own website they can keep there jobs
-
Been unemployed too long. Saw an ad on the tube for bigspot.com and decided to check out these survey sites. Any little bit helps, right?
-

I started a new job working in construction billing. Pay and benefits aren't very good but it is two miles from home and additional experience for the resume.

What do you do on your site?

My husband went for his unemployment hearing yesterday. We're hopeful about the outcome.
-
Yes, I was laid off in April and havent had much luck getting a job. The highlight of my day now is seeing how many rejection letters I got in the mail today.

Keep the faith. The right job will come along. You may have to settle for a little less than the perfect one for the time being. I am blessed with a new job but am keeping the faith the perfect one will come along soon (need benefits!).
-
ive been on my own since i was 17. i just got and lost my first job ever because i got sick and missed too many days. so i came here and a few of my neighbors said they would pay me for babysitting and cleaning. i wont ever have to leave the house anymore! HUZZAH!
-
Actually, I lost my job just yesterday! :-[ From the same company who laid me off a couple of years ago. I had been back with them FT again only since January and things just weren't working out. I had a pretty good job already when they asked me back and thought things would be better there, but now I realize I should have stayed at the job I had, now I have no job and not likely that the job I left to go back to the company that let me go again will take me back since they had to find someone to take my place. :sad1:

I've never even been employed. (Only 17, don't worry. It's not like I'm 25) I keep searching for jobs but they all say they want experience. Well how can I get experience if I'm never give the chance to get any? It sucks because I have to move out in seven months (Hence why I'm doing all I can to scourge up some extra money like being on this site)
-
In the same boat and so sorry to hear you are there too! I think the biggest challenge is keeping good thoughts going each day. It's a tough market and challenging to keep the motivation going when the feedback from the market is slim!
Best of luck to you in your search.
-
Thank you for the good luck wishes. I was just reading in my newspaper today that the unemployment rate for my state (NC) has gone up again for the third month in a row, up to 9.2% now. How disheartening. It's one thing trying to find work when you know there might be work out there, another trying to find something when you know there's not. :BangHead: What do you do? I am still trying to stay positive and believe that everything happens for a reason, but dang it's hard sometimes lol.
-
nope, I am a college student :D good luck to all who are searching for jobs out there. It'll happen eventually. Hope "eventually" is soon :)
-
I have a job, but it is as a substitute teacher, and right now I have no income because school is out. I am also a student and it is hard to find a summer job, especially when they find out that I will quit in August, once school starts back.So , I rely on sites like Fusion Cash to help increase my income during these times

My son is 16 and is in the same boat. He's applied to almost everywhere he could think of in the area and not ONE phone call. A lot of adults are taking over the retail and food industry jobs that you'd normally see teens working at. I'm not hateful, everyone's gotta eat right? It's just hard out there.
As for me, I can't complain, I really feel blessed. Been at my job for 13 years, great pay, great benefits, stress free, wear jeans and sneakers everyday, work Mon-Fri 8-5pm and paid holidays.

not really i have my own website & i may get RSSD

I am also in the same boat :(

I've been unemployed for a couple of months. I think I will have a job--a crappy job--by the end of this month. It's taking the unemployment office forever to figure out what they are doing. True, I only applied two weeks ago, but shouldn't I know for sure if I'm eligible by now.
-
I'm lucky enough to be retired, but my poor brother has been looking for work ever since he lost his paralegal job two years ago. My suggestion: find a support group for unemployed people. This will help you emotionally and most likely, give you some job search strategies. Also, read "What Color Is My Parachute?," which is full of job hunt strategies. Good Luck!!!!
-
I am not unemployed now but I was for about three munths. It was one of the hardest times I ever had. I just became a semi truck driver. This was the best way for me to start making some money. It's not a easy job but you do get to see a lot of different things. I have been doing the driving for only two weeks and I have seen a lot of neet things. I don't like being awayfrom my family but it putting food on the table.
-
Yes, I have been unemployed since I graduated from Aquinas College in May 2009. Of course, having a degree in music, it is definitely hard to find employment in that. I have excellent dexterity, public speaking, listening and telephoning skills, which means I would be great at using computers in office work.
I have no interest in going back to school; it is expensive as hell. I do believe that if I start out by playing jazz saxophone with a close friend, and then we add more players after a while, that would be great gigging experience.
-
I think I did get unemployment. At least, they sent me the little card they put the money on, and that would be a waste if they are going to turn around and refuse me. Oh, and never mind a degree in music. I have a degree in philosophy. What am I going to do, set up a booth in the mall?
-
For all of you out, there that are unemployeed, keep you chins up. I was unemployeed for 18 months from June 2008 - November 2009. Try to find local networking oppertunities and also try to call companies that you want to work with. One thing to remember is don't get to down and stressed out about this. Make sure that you are taking time for yourself.
-
I`m now gainfully employed after months of unemployment.direct mail lot of work for little psy but some pay better than no pay!
-
its been one year i have been looking for a job but icant find one. But with this, that s a little to put in my pocket

I have been unemployed since April 1. I haven't really been looking for a new job - have applied for a few, but no calls. I worked at my same job for many, many years. This probably means I'm too old to get a new job. (Sigh....)

Setting up a booth in a mall is a GREAT IDEA-----You could offer a FREE 15 minute session of psychlogical counseling----Pick people up, make them laugh, schedule them for more in depth sessions and give them your business card.----- THE WAY THINGS ARE NOW-----YOU GOTTA GET OFF YOUR *bleep* AND DO SOMETHING FOR YOURSELF----DON'T SIT AROUND COMPLAINING AND WAITING ON SOMEONE ELSE TO HIRE YOU!!
MAYBE YOU COULD STAND ON THE STREET CORNER AND PLAY MUSIC FOR TIPS, OR TRY TO GET A ONE NIGHT GIG IN SOME BARS.

Been OFFICIALLY UNEMPLOYED since February 22, 2008. God has always provided. He has made a way for me, when it looked to me like there was no way. I praise Him and I thank Him. He is truly an awesome God. He is El Shaddi, MY PROVIDER!!

Maybe before you insulted this person, implying they are doing nothing but sitting around complaining and waiting, and then told them what they should be doing about it you should have read what they actually wrote! They said they have a degree in philosophy and you suggest they do some psychological counseling in a mall booth? You said you have no job, so maybe you should leave the job coaching and employment advice up to someone more qualified. I just love it when people use lots of caps to make incorrect observations and useless 'advice' sound so much more important..... ::)

I recently lost my good paying job of 15 years due to outsourcing. Has anyone else joined the ranks of the unemployed in the last month or so?
wow
-
Yes i am unemployed.. i am having a hard time finding a job that will work around my daycare issues with my 1 yr old daughter.. my husband doesn't get home from work till 4:30 in the afternoon.. but all the second shift jobs start at 3 pm.. and no daycare in the area will take her for 2 or 3 hours in a day.. so now what? ugggggggg
-
im unempolyed for now but look for another job at the start of the new year
-
Yes, for the time being. I've been with this company for 4 years, and since that time there were 29 carpenters working at this yard, but as of today there are 7 and the company hasn't signed a new contract in a year and a half. So I'm trying to be prepared.

:sad1:
I to am unemployed, and unfortunately it's because I quit, so I can't feel sorry for myself :BangHead: I left on the last day of April - I've been on a lot of interviews and am always in the top 2 or 3 but I never get offered the job. I honestly underestimated our employment crisis! I can only imagine how awful it's been for those of you who have been laid off after giving several years of your life to your job. Sometimes I wonder why people in our situation can't pull together and come up with a plan - it seems logical enough..... More power in numbers they say.
-
I'm unemployed now and can't get unemployment since I quit the job. Also, can't get but 3 months of food stamps since I'm childless. My husband died in Feb. I tried to continue working but my bereavement made it impossible for me to continue. I can't get widow's benefits til I turn 60 in Dec. Living on my meager savings til then. Stretching every penny.

I'm unemployed. I quit my previous job and moved to a different state because my husband gained a teaching position. I've been searching, getting numerous interviews but no one will hire me. I think it's because I'm an interloper! ::) I have another interview this morning and I'm hoping that I can do a song and dance that these people like. Maybe I should bring in a top hat with me this time? ;D
Try some bells on your shoes!

nope, i work part time and go to school full time

I tried it and every time I walked into a room, dogs wanted a treat!

No, thank God. I work part time now, but I do appreciate the check every two weeks.

I thank God I have my full time job and my part time job (though I don't need both...it just makes life more fun). But perhaps it just a matter of changing what one is looking for. I know at least here in the northeast the medical field is a BIG opportunity and forever getting bigger. And depending what area you're in the pay is not bad. And no I am not talking NYC or Philly, etc; After all people are living longer. I changed my career (oh my gosh it's been 6 yrs already) and have not looked back since. When I know I/we are going to need extra money...I put in for one or two extra shifts. Comes in handy ;)

Unemployed but very hopeful....
-
As Of Today! Yes Until The 7th!

I'm not unemployed but I feel it in my gut that it might happen sometime this year by the way my office is being handled. My Aunt worked at a bank for almost 15 years and was let go August of 2010 and STILL can't find employment. Times are so tough right now and I feel sorry for everyone who is losing their job.
-
Wow...Didn't think this unemployment issue was so serious since I graduated in the Spring and still jobhunting....And to think that people who were employed for 15 years with a company are being terminated-it's scary!!!!!!! :-[ Nonetheless, I am hopeful that God will see us through

i lost my job in 2008 and then got an eye disease, thats getting wotse. i use a special magnifying glass and blow up my page size so i can see to do this, but i've gotten use to it. it was also very traumatic to lose my job that i had for 20 years...kind of scary :sad1:
-
I bet it was,Ii did home daycare for ten years, then gave it up to work at nursing center.found out my feet wouldn`t allow me to be on them for 8 hours a day! So I`ve Been unemployed doing side jobs for little to nothing!

Don't let it get ya down too much. Bravery isn't the absence of fear. It's having fear and moving forward! I hope your eye heals quickly and soon. Keep a positive attitude. 8)

$5.45 is quite a bit below the federal minimum wage rate. Were you working restaurant work?
