I was wondering if anyone here has ever tried any mystery shopping and if there are really any legit companies to do it for. I got a thing in the mail a while ago with a check and directions, but I threw it away because I was too worried it was a scam and I would get in trouble at the bank or something. If anyone has really done it, let me know what you think.

You are wise to be cautious. Your bank can check out checks for you. I'd hate for you to throw out a real one. Don't pay to get work, that's usually a scheme. If they want you to send them back part of the check or pay someone out of it it's a check cashing scam. Report these so the scammers can get caught. 20/20 just had an episode about a dating scam where people were sending money to a lover they met online only to find out the person was one of those scammers in Nigeria.
To find legit mystery shopping work search for "Work At Home No Scams". You'll find a very informative blog with lots of ideas. Good luck.

I tried it, they sent me 2 different western union amounts totaling 1600.00, I was to cash them go to walmart spend up to 40.00 my choice of items, write a brief report about my shopping trip wire 1500.00 to another person this part was (to check western union.)and I could keep remaining bal. I took them to my bank and deposited them to my account and asked the bank to hold on to them until they cleared. This "company" emailed me and wanted to know why I had'nt completed my assignment. I told them as soon as the checks cleared I'd be more than happy to comply. 3-5 days later my bank called to tell me they DID NOT clear. I never heard back from my "employers". Bottom line they were trying to get me for 1500.00. So if you run across moneygrams , wire transfers, ect. Ask your bank NOT to process until amts. clear. I'm so glad I did.

yeah be careful if they want you to pay them to get jobs probably a scam beware of these companies or you will lose your money.

I did i for about a year. A company paid me to mystery shop a local grocery store. I got about $7 every trip. Since I had to go every week it made sense. After awhile they had me going there and to a competitor and it got to be too much for me because you had to go on the date and time that they specified. It was good extra money but when it started controlling my life I had to stop.

Smart thinking, Linda. I actually know a couple of people who did it for a short time. They did get paid.

I did mystery shopping for 2 months and the company that I was working for missed up my bank account! The first month was ok and I was getting money, but by the 2nd month my bank account was all missed up from the people I was working for! How they missed it up I dont know and never will! You need to see if the companys are on bbb.com.Good luck to you! :)

I tried one, but they pay you after you hace completed the assignment and it is usually from 30 to 75 dollars. I did an assignment at a bank and they did pay me $75.00. Don't ever accept one where you have to send them money bank.

That sounds llike a good way to make some extra money, Just be careful.

Wow I'm so glad that turned out alright for you. I know someone who was contacted as a future model and they sent her money orders. She took them to the bank and found out they were fake. So that particular scam shows up in a lot of places you might not suspect.

I tried it but didn't actually get any jobs doing it. The whole mystery shopping thing for me was just a bad idea.
-
I tried it but didn't even bother requesting payment. It just doesn't pay enough. In fact I believe I could collect aluminum cans and make more. If you spend $5 on gasoline to make $10, you aren't even getting minimum wage.

I completed a few assignments and was paid as stated. Seems, like after participating with mystery assignments and other gpt sites that I'm bombarded with mail from unscrupulous companies/people sending checks in the mail for amounts ranging between $1,500 - $6,000 stating that you're selected to participate in new assignment, cash check and keep $300, forward the rest to us...RIGHT!
-
IF YOU KNOW WHERE TO GO LET ME KNOW AND I WANT TO TRY IT OUT AS A WEEKEND JOB SOMETIME THANKS
-
I have done a few in my area. Had wonderful times doing so. I wish that I lived in an area that had more to choose from but the few that I have done paid and I have good memories of them. Somethings I would not shop for if it wasn't an assignment. Had fun, learned a few new things, and got paid. It's great.

Some are legit and others aren't so be very very careful by doing research and asking about a specific here so we can help you:)

It is a good idea to have several secondary email accounts that you can use to sign up for things like this so that when the spam starts to come it does not drive you crazy. I have an email I use for personal correspondence. Two for business, two for safelists, and several for offers.
Also, know that there are legit mystery shopping companies out there, but use some common sense. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

I have joined a couple of mystery shop sites. I've done a few so far. They have been very easy. Just have to make sure you take in as much detail as you can. A lot of questions are answered. Make sure you read and follow all of the shop instructions. If you don't supply the necessary documentation, you won't get paid. Now a days, every little of extras help!
-
I had one that said there was a fee. I thought they were to pay you?
-
Anytime theres a fee involved, Its not legit.
-
There ARE good mystery shopping companies out there. I worked for a few different ones. Went and did "car" shops and ended up with free oil changes, wheel allignments, ect. I was told that a legit mystery shopping company will NOT ask you money to sign up! Make sure you read the fine print! Good luck!

I'm always skeptical of all that business and avoid it all together...rather spend my time on FusionCash :)
-
I actually was going to try this too, I heard an add on my local radio station so was not sure if it was legit since they aired the add on the radio or not. I am skeptical to try it. I did take the email down though so well see, I guess it cant hurt and if i research first before doing anything, and yes no sending money to anyone first ;D
-
I would get the coupons in the mail to actually try a place out, and they would send me money for that particular "assignment". There are some that are legit, it is just the matter of whether or not you find the right ones. If they ever ask for money back... never, ever, send them money! It is a scam! Good luck! :)
-
seems like so good to be true but im afraid of trying it i might be just wasting my time but i dont know if it works on anybody it might be a good try we never know :)
-
I have heard wonderful things about it, but then again i've heard terrible things about it. so i'd be careful.
-
Yeah I didn't believe the one I got in the mail at all. It didn't ask me for any money, but it asked me to cash the check and spend so much at different places, then go to the western union and send money out and report how the service was at western union and keep $300 or something like that. I threw it out cause I didn't think that this particular one sounded right.

a friend of mine had her mom do it for a while. But i can't remember which company she used.
