After more than 20 years of these things ruining my nails, I am done with them for good. The only reason I started wearing them was because of a split in one fingernail. I have gone for periods of time without them before but never really treated them. I read reviews of nail treatments and the best seemed to be Barielle cream, which was originally created for horse hooves. I ordered it off eBay, and after a couple of weeks of using it every night, my nails are actually beginning to look normal again, although I have a way to go. That's my good news for the day!

I liked it when I had my nails. Yes they do ruin your original nails to an extent. If you take them off once a year and let your nails breathe it aint to bad. My nail lady was awesome and took very good care of my nails.

I used to take mine off every other month or several times a year, but they were still badly damaged after so many years and never had a chance to heal. I'm trying to remain strong. I loved the way they looked though!

How do acrylic nails ruin your nails? I've never gotten my nails done or anything, but my sister used to all the time. I remember a nail falling off or something, and she'd have to pull the rest off. It looked painful. But doesn't the nail just grow back?

I stopped using them myself after going to open my car door and as I grabbed for the handle to pull upwards I caught my nail and it ripped half of it off, including my real nail. That was soooooo painful.

I stopped using them too a few years ago because of the damage they did to my original nails, in fact even after a few years of not using them my nails have a long way to go before they are back to their original state, if thats possible.

I've never had acrylic nails. I've wondered what it was like, but not enough to get them. Your comments make it sound like I'm not missing out. Maybe I'll stay w/o acrylic nails?
