I am on the coast in northeastern South Carolina and school is letting out early tomorrow because we are expecting high winds. I have lived in this area most of my life and I can tell you that Cape Hatteras and Care Fear always seem to be right in the path of every hurricane. I know it sticks out there on the edge but those people need to get a clue. They always get hit.
-
i think this is a really good stuff right here.
we can talk about it and share without personally knowing each other.
When people don't have a clue is really hard to picture hurricane.
but we all together.all human.we have respect and a lot pf prayer for those who are really into nature disaster!!! :crybaby2:

Hmm, I must not keep up with the news much. I had no idea there was a hurricane. lol. Where I am in Cali. there are no "real" natural disasters, at least not consistent or predictable ones. Some fires, tiny earthquakes, but nothing too bad where I'm at.

Bought a large 60 quart cooler tonight to supplement a smaller cooler I already have and stocked up on food, water, and batteries for the flashlights. I live in Chesapeake, VA which is 10 miles from NC and 20 miles from the ocean. Definitely concerned about what damage will occur on Saturday. Based on prior experience with Tropical Storm winds in this area it is highly likely much of this area will be without power anywhere from a day to over a week. I hear kids and teenagers talking about how cool it will be when Irene comes and I feel a growing compulsion to smack them in their head for being stupid. ::)
-
Yeah, every one should take shelter.
-
Well, I don't remember a Hurricane like this coming to NYC. But I am ready for it. I am not scared, but I just hope I do not loose electric service or TV service or internet service for that matter.
-
I am not scared. I can feel the energy in the air. I wonder where Irene will wander. Will she go shopping in Manhattan or do high society in the Hampdens or surfing on the Cape? Or go inland and miss the beach. When she leaves, we will have to sing IRENE GOODNIGHT, IRENE GOODNIGHT, GOODNIGHT IRENE, GOODNIGHT IRENE, I'LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS.
Be safe!
-
yeah,i am with you guys!!!!
hope everyone will be safe!!!

I was watching the Today show this morning and they made some great sugestions. They mentioned that sometimes the water supply could be cut off, so fill up your bath tub with water. This water should be used to fill your toliet tank so you can still flush. They also said if you can text from your phone that you will be able to get through if the cell towers are overloaded.
-
I am about as ready as I am going to be.I have filled the remaining space in my freezer with containers of water. We have several coolers. Went to the grocery store this morning. We should be ok. I am concerned about my parents. I think they are not prepared. My son lives near the Jersey Shore and is being evacuted and will stay in a hotel(inland) to ride out the storm.
At least I know he is safe.

Anyone who lives on the East Coast. My prayers are with you and your families to stay safe. :angel12:
-
im in central ohio, but im ready for the side effects. lol
-
All I can say to all the people on the East Coast is please be safe and look for weather updates. ::)
-
I really didn't expect it to be anything big. I mean, i'm way up north and all I really need to worry about in the way of natural disasters are blizzards and ice storms, but my younger sister is in high school and they've cancelled her school next week, and my friends who attend local colleges don't have classes either. We've been tying down loose ends outside and getting water in case we lose power. I really hope we don't.
-
She could of came a little bit more to the west and landed in the middle of Texas we need some rain!!! :peace:
-
careful what you wish for.. lol
-
I live very close to the Potomoc River in North eastern Virginia. I am not scared, have been through a few of these but, I am not stupid either. I know the force of mother nature. I hope everyone on the east coast adheres to the warnings. I don't know about NJ, they seem to be having problems with people already from what I hear. I have plenty of supplies and am hunkered down. I see about 4-6 inches of rain and probably 30-50 K winds expected for my area. I may not be on the internet tomorrow night so I am doing my posts tonight. Keep safe all!!

:o Scared thought and feeling of Hurricane....
-
East Coasters-you ready? scared?
Nope, I live in buffalo, NY
It's not suppose to be too bad here.
I scared my basement might flood, but that's about it lol
-
Pretty tame storm so far in Chesapeake, VA. It seems like the forecasters always get carried away. I actually heard one forecaster say it would be the worst storm in the past 50 years for the whole of the East Coast. :bs: Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy he and other forecasters were wrong. ;) It did help a lot that the Hurricane is moving more to the west than previously indicated. It isn't supposed to get "bad" here until noon and through the early evening, so hopefully I'm not caught eating my words. I have beer, food, water, flashlights so I should be okay. 8)

They do tend to overhype things like this, but I said the same thing about Katrina. Felt terrible afterwards.
-
I am in Florida so it has already passed us. I hope that everyone in her path stays safe.
-
Definitely scared! I live in Rhode Island and us New Englanders are definitely not used to these natural disasters. Stocked up on non-perishables, batteries, candles, radio, bottled water, a 42 qt. cooler on wheels, packed clothes, figured out emergency route in event of emergency and what shelter is closest to my home. I am not taking any chances because I have a 3 year old toddler so I am taking every possible precaution. I'd rather be over than under prepared. I even stocked up on baby wipes in case we lose water..lol..(baby wipe baths) :sad1:
-
Hope everyone is staying safe!!!!

It's not very powerful and I've seen stronger wind/rain from thunderstorms, but unfortunately there have been a few casualties related to this storm. The winds have been in the 40's with stronger gusts and a couple small tornadoes this morning. There is flooding on many local streets to the point that they are inpassable. A tree fell on an apartment this morning killing a 9 year old girl so I feel very sad for this family and others who have been affected.
-
Blessings and prayers are headed out to the EAst coast as they go thru the turmoil of mother earth!
-
I was getting worried, but now that it's here (I'm in NJ) I'm feeling surprisingly calm. I think it was the anticipation of it that was getting to me, and now that it's here (it's not too bad yet, but this is it), meh.

I live in the west coast. We may not have much hurricanes here, but we do experience earthquakes. If Mother Nature strikes, it will and we earthlings must go through it together, scared or not scared. ;D
-
Thank God hurricane Irene is gone.
