I was in Dallas Tx and saw it on the news and could not believe it was really happening in the United States. Never forget September 11, 2001
-
I was at home getting ready for work and watching Good Morning America when they showed it as it was happening.
-
I was sitting in my 11th grade History class taking the Indiana State Graduation Exam. I remember when the announcement come over the school sound system. The teaches were told to turn on the televisions in all the rooms. I remember seeing the plane hit the first tower...It made my stomach drop. It was a sad day. :(
-
I was working at a company called Builders Lighting & Design at the time when a few people in the break room had the news on and called everyone in the room to watch what just happened. We all went silent for a good minute.
-
I was at home in Austin, Texas. I was still in bed but watching TV -- one of the morning talk shows. And there was the first breaking news that a plane had hit The World Trade Center. This was the first plane. Little did we know at that moment what was very soon to unfold. :crybaby2:

somewhere between home and school

I was in school and almost everyone got called to the office!!!! Then I went home, ate KFC and played videogames on the computer why my mom watched CNN all day long. I'm I heartless for not caring?
-
I was at work at a company that had a huge screen for tele-conferencing. We sat in the conference room in stunned silence watching it unfold after the first plane crashed into the WTC.
-
I was in 7th grade Home Ec. when the attacks first started. I did not find out about them until walking in to my next period Spanish class. The teacher had the TV on and I just remember them replaying the planes hitting the WTC over and over. Looking back now, I don't think I was old enough to really comprehend what it all meant. However, I know I will never forget where I was on that awful day.

I was ten years old living in Southern Missouri, I was at school. I guess I was in 4th or 5th grade, didn't really know what was going on, I do remember that gas prices shot up and people where sitting in line to buy gas before they thought it would go up to $5.
-
I was in a motel getting ready to go to work in downtown Dallas when I got a phone call from my daughter telling me to turn on the TV and watch what was happening on CNN. I sat on the bed and watched for over an hour with my daughter on the phone as the tragic events unfolded before us. After about an hour I told my daughter I needed to call work and check in and I would call her right back. When I called work they told me not to come in because they were sending everybody home. So I called my daughter back and we made plans to meet for lunch where we spent most of the afternoon watching the news.
-
I was in history class, ironically. :o

I was working for Fort Worth ISD. I had just gotten off the school bus when a friend told me that a plane has just hit the world trade center. I didn't believe it until I went home and saw it on the news. Afterwards, I was still shocked that this had happened.

We were at home in Salem, Oregon. I don't turn on TV during the day but my mother called to tell us to turn it on....we were pretty much glued to it for the rest of the day. :crybaby2: :crybaby2: :star: :star:

I was only eight years old when it happened but I was in Georgia most likely in school. I think I was in the 3rd or 4th grade not to sure. Gas prices went up and people went crazy is all I know. I know I am feeling the affects from it now with hard to get a job and high gas prices and everything has gone up it makes it hard to get a start on your adult life when it feelings like the world is holding you back.

I was working swing shift and when I got in and passed the cafeteria they had it on and I stopped in my tracks. We stayed at work, but our supervisor told us we could watch some of the broadcasts. He understood that it'd disrupt the work flow for a couple days. We were in the Aerospace industry.
We had a small swing shift in our lab, just three people. The other woman and I were quite moved by the events. :'( We were both energy workers. The angels were busy that day. :angel11: :angel11: :angel11: :angel11: :angel11: :angel11: :angel11:

I'm new here so bare with me. I was only...8 years old when this happened. I believe I was in school. But my father actually lived in New York at the time, Rochester actually. I was terrified when I found out what happened. I asked my mom if I could call my dad to check on him and make sure he was okay, even though he was hundreds of miles away from the city. I was only a little girl so I didn't really understand how far of a distance away New York City was. Of course now...I'd be horrified if something like this happened again. My father and his wife now live and work nearly in the city.

I was in the car when I heard the news. Got where I needed to go and on the television I remember seeing video of the towers falling. Absolutely devastating.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected. :crybaby2:

I was living in Austin, TX and working for Time Warner. I had just gotten to work when it happened. I worked in the IT department at the time and we sat there and watched the news ALL DAY. Devastating.
-
I was busy in the kitchen, when all of a sudden the news caught my ear, and I looked but couldn't really believe what I was seeing. My heart ached for all the people whose lives were changed in an instant in that terrible attack!

I was working for my local sheriff and we were all watching it on TV and in shock and having the same conservations all first responders all over the nation was having and then at lunch I realized my brother was in Kenya on a mission trip and I began to pray for his safety as well as all the others in danger in New York, Washington DC and Pennsylvania.

I was at home sleeping when my Mom called me on the phone and told me to put the TV on...that was such a sad sad day :(
-
I had just gotten to work in Quincy Massachusetts with my daughter. Our office building was right next to high granite cliffs. I felt safe there because no airplane could smash into the building because of the cliffs.
-
I wasn't married yet and was with my ex. We were sleeping and his mom called and told us, we turned on the Tv to see the smoke coming from the towers, couldn't believe it.
-
I was in my bedroom getting dressed for the day. A family member told me to turn on the T.V.
A month later, I was having lunch with friends. A lady having lunch with me said that her son was a few blocks away.
-
I was at school...at some point in the mid-morning, I think after spanish class, a friend told me that he had heard on the radio that the twin towers had been struck...it didn't really seem significant to me, considering how young I was and how little detail I knew about the entire situation...plus, I didn't really see videos of it until later in the day and even though I wasn't too far from NYC, my school was still functioning. I remember after lunch though that one of my teachers was worried because she thought her friend might be on the plane in PA....nonetheless when I got home, my life changed......

10 years ago, I went out for my morning walk to the park with my 1 year old. When I came back around 8 AM mountain time, I had a ton of messages on my answering machine from relatives about our country being under attack. I thought for sure they were exaggerating. I turned on the TV and saw what they were talking about. I was pregnant with my 2nd child and was wondering what kind of world I brought my kids into. Life has never been the same since.
-
I was at work and on my computer in a place that I shouldn't be at work. Anyway, they mentioned that the first tower had been hit. I got to CNN and alerted the rest of our department. After a few hours the company sent us home.
-
Please remember September 11, 2001 :angel11:

I was sitting in class in high-school when I heard the hype throughout the school...Professors were viewing the news and came to tell us what had happened....A moment in history
-
I was at work, 5 months pregnant, about 1 1/2 hr drive from NYC. Co-workers saw it on tv & we all watched. The company had 2 employees there working on contract, they both got out safely. But it was so devastating. :'( I will never forget September 11, 2001. :angel11:
-
also in my 11th grade class

I lived in Buffalo NY at that time. I was at work ( we did technical support for satellite systems so we had tvs everywhere) We were all shocked. They sent us home and we had no work for a week because we relied on shipping via air and all planes were grounded. It was a sad day. :crybaby2:

I was in North Carolina on Vaction at the time. I had slept in that morning and my Wife woke me up to tell me that the one tower had been hit, I thought she was making a sick practicle joke. I went in the living room to find out she wasn't. I am Retired Military and had been working for the Federal Government at the time and called back to the office to find out if all Leave was cancelled. I think I was in shock that day, especially when the Pentagon got hit. I had know a few people that worked there.
-
I was at work and they called us into the break room to tell us. We were all stuned and could not believe this could me happening here in the USA. I was like everyone else, I cried and could not stop. I felt so sorry for all the familys that had lost love ones. When they announced that they killed the person that had been the head of it in May, I cried again, not for him, but because it brought all The memories back and was glad they finally got him. May God bless every one and May God BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and keep us safe. I have a grandson who has been to Iraq twice and hope he does not have to go back in harms way.
-
I was in my 5th grade classroom. We weren't allowed to go outside for recess because of "something in New York" that's all they said over the intercom. I went home on the bus and my dad was on the couch watching the news. That's when I knew what was going on.
-
I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter and was on the way to my checkup when they broke in with the news about the first plane hitting the World Trade Center. At the doctor's office all the tv's and radios were on and we were all listening to the reports as they came in. I went home right after my appointment and turned on the news and watched it all night. I just couldn't believe what was going on.....it just didn't seem real....it all looked like scenes from a movie. I was so numb watching everything that day.
The next morning, when I got up and turned on the morning news, there it was again. That's when I finally broke down, thinking about all the people on the planes, in the buildings, on the ground and all the families that were looking for their loved ones.
I will never forget.....September 11th will stay with me for the rest of my life.

it wasn't even 6am here in cali yet. I was in college, in my dorm room asleep and the phone rang.
i got up to answer it, it was my roommate's mom crying telling me to wake her up and turn on the news.
i woke her up, turned on our tv and she called her mom back and we both sat there shocked and confused watching, then the second tower was hit and we both said it wasn't an accident.
my mom called me from work to tell me she was worried they might attack LA (which I wasn't in, but close to) but I wasn't worried as much as she was.
we sat there like that until 730, watching different stations listening to what they all had to say, our RA showed up at 7 knocking on everyone's doors telling us the school was having a meeting before lunch (for prayers, counseling, etc) and that we still had to go to our classes today to at least check-in.
So at 730 half of our dorm walked quietly up to the classrooms, but my professor didn't show up for us to check-in until after 8 because she was frantically trying to contact her relatives in NY to make sure they were ok but the phone lines were jammed. Since it was sociology class, she actually had us stay and talk about it. Then after class my roommates and I grabbed breakfast and headed back to our room to watch more news. That friday the entire school did candlelight vigils on street corners throughout town.
The events of that day will always be with me, even though I suffered no personal loss, it was a very historic and shocking day. As my professor pointed out, it was like the day she was in school and heard Kennedy had been killed.
-
I was taking my son to school and then off to work.
-
I was working and was kept updated by a co-workers mom then in church. It was a terrible day
-
At school, sitting in my sophomore english class when I heard the news from other students and teacher :dontknow:

I was in South Korea. I just got home from work. I flipped on the TV on it was CNN international. The first tower had just been hit.
My British roommate heard the word terrorist as he walks in, and he said, "hey Mate, what is CNN dramatizing this time?"
I was standing up watching the TV and he came closer to where I was, when I didn't answer,
I had tears rolling down my face, and turned and looked at him and quietly said, "It's not drama this time, Mate." We stood and watched the second tower get hit and the buildings collapse. I stayed up all night watching the news and spent the next 3 days with very little sleep.
Fortunately, we had just started a week long break. He was on the phone most of the night as some of his British friends worked in the twin towers. Also fortunately, they were okay. My roommate kept apologizing for his drama remark. I told him several times, it was okay as CNN international did at that time tend to dramatize any events.
The Koreans were the best, many of them showed up at my door very concerned if I had any family back and if my family was safe. Of the 2977 people that died, 28 of them were South Korean.

I was the last child in the school building in 5th grade, lol.. I had no idea what was going on and why everyone else had gone home. So, I just read in the library until I was dismissed and my parents came to get me at the end of the day.
-
I was in junior high school history class and the entire school had televisions in each class. The principle allowed us to watch the whole program until we went home that day! Everyone was crying and was so sad!

I had graduated from grad. school and was actively searching for a job during the summer. As a part of my house-hunting routine, I was checking different job-listing sites as well as different companies' job listings on-line. That morning, I began to notice that the internet seemed extremely slow, esp considering that most of the sites I was visiting was mostly text and not multi-media and so should have been loading pretty quickly. I didn't really think much of it at the time; it just struck me as odd...
I had a phone interview later that morning at 10am, but after 10:15 rolled around and I had still not gotten called, I decided I'd take the initiative and call the interviewer (just to see if she had forgotten, or needed to reschedule). When the other end of the line picked up, instead of saying "hello" the interviewer said "Samantha?". I told her no, that I was calling about our 10am interview. A long pause and then she said she'd have to reschedule since she was waiting for a phone call from her daughter out in NYC. Sensing my confusion, she told me that the US was being attacked, and to turn on the TV.
I did as she suggested and all of the issues I was experiencing that morning suddenly became crystal clear. I spent the rest of that day watching the news, completely awestruck by what I was seeing.

I was a Junior in High School (11th grade). My friends and I were in our English class (1st period). We were all in the library on the third floor doing reports on Puritians. Our English teacher came up to our table, he had a strange expression on his face and he told us that the United States was under attack and mentioned the World Trafe Center in NYC. I had no idea what he was talking about. Then one of the librians turned on the TV. I'm pretty sure by that time, at least one of the towers had fallen because all I can remember seeing was huge clouds of smoke/ash.
-
At home watching TV then suddenly a alert report pop up. I still pray for those who lost there love ones. :(
-
I was in high school in 11th grade. All the teachers turned it on in the classrooms and I was just in total shock at was happening. I wanted to go home.I live in Illinois and everyone was freaking out like will downtown Chicago be next.Since we got alot of tall buildings and landmarks I didnt go downtown or take the trains for awhile after that.
-
I was at work (Atlanta Techincial College) when it happen and we thought it was a plane just crashing, we never consider it would be a terriost.
-
I just got home from picking up some kfc chicken and sat down and turned on the tv. I was wondering what on earth happened.
-
i was in class, 5th grade
-
I was sitting at my desk at work when someone came running into the office and said a plane had hit the World Trade center. We all went into the lunch room to watch the television.
The next day we had a power outage and the building had to be evacuated. That was a little tense.
-
I was in 4th grade, so I don't remember much, but I remember being in school...and then everyone going silent and slowly getting sent home
-
I was in the military, stationed in Hawaii. I was around 4 in the morning and something woke me up. I turned on the TV, which was on ESPN, and I thought it was a movie. While I was busy questioning why there was a movie on ESPN, the second plane crashed into the tower. So chilling to watch live. :crybaby2:
-
I had just got home from work, getting the kids off to school. When I seen what I thought was a really sick commercial, then, it hit me. We were being attacked. What I expected would happen after that didn't. Seemed like business as usual. School didn't close, nothing just sit and watch, helpless.
-
I was in 5th grade i remember our teacher sat us all around in a circle and asked doyou guys know what happened today? A child said there was a bus accident earlier that day, one bus got in an accident coming to school but nobody had any idea what happened then i think our teacher explained what happened i am assuming but do not remember but i think i was too young to comprehend what happened at that time .
-
I was at work when a lady ran in and siad to turn the tv on....it was very sad...i saw people jumping out of the building because thney wanted to avoid being burned alive....very sad :crybaby2:
-
I was at work, . hurt and heart broken my aunt was in the building that day. She was just fine. I think she left early that day. Thank God.
-
I was totally oblivious to what was going on that day, until I got to my first job right across from my state capitol and it was pretty much abandoned. But they were renovating the building at the time, so I didn't find it that unusual still, not to find people there. I was actually grateful for the peace and quiet to get some work done. Then just as I was settling in, I got a call from my mother, who was frantic, since she heard they sent everyone away for possible bomb scares cause of 911. I remember I still wasn't very afraid, just quietly gathered my things and left. Things like that are so out of my realm of experience, it's hard to think that they could be really happening. But I still didn't linger around the place. I remember watching the news later, and it almost felt like watching something from an action movie, seemed too unreal. And I was really young, so I didn't understand exactly the impact of what was going on.
-
i was at home fighting with my now ex b/f over his cheating-beating ways. plus caring for my mom, grandma and a great uncle. plus on top of everything dealing with
the loss of my dad who passed on july 17,2001. so it was a rough time for me. so 9-11 i will always remember.
-
I was in Hardeeville South Carolina.
-
I was at school on the west coast. It was very weird knowing that, this was a very terrible thing happening but also being so far away made it even more unreal for me. On the 11 this year I saw the replayed footage from the Today show ten years ago and just sobbed the whole time. It really was much more real to me now then it was ten years ago.
-
I was in South Austin, TX living with my husband in our little apt. I was working at Mervyn's at the time, and before I went to lunch that day, I saw the first plane hit. I was discusted, and knew immediatelly that terrorism had EVERYTHING to do with it.
When I got home, my husband was watching the television, I ate my lunch, and before I headed out the door, the second plane hit! The scale of the terrorist attack put me in awe, so I stayed and watched the tele a little longer, because I couldnt pull away.
And then, the towers began to fall...... The first one fell, and I broke down immediately and cried in my husband's arms. He had to hold me up slightly, because my knees buckled a little bit. He also began to weep. All of those innocents in those buildings, just gone. Forever. Then you wonder..Why? What for? What's the point of all this? I finally pulled myself together, and drove back to work. I felt so hollow, like a ghost, just going through the motions of driving my car. I was still aware of my surroundings, but I couldn't bring my thoughts away from what I just saw.
Ironically enough, on the same day, my (indifferent, mean~*bleep*, no sex having, grouchy old woman) manager had told me if I was late getting to work, or coming back from lunch or whatever, (even if there was an "act of GOD" was how she put it) she would have to let me go. And of course, about half way back from lunch, I got stuck in traffic, by a train!!! I knew for sure that my job was over at Mervyn's, but I just didn't care at the time. I just sat in my car, and sobbed.
I was let go that day, all of my pay was handed to me and I walked out the doors. My husband called me, and asked the obvious.
"Did she fire you?" he said. "Yes, she did." I said.
"Are you OK?", he said.
"As okay as I can be, I guess.", I said. "They gave me all of my pay ($475) and sent me home."
And then my husband said........" I got paid today, Wanna go buy a car??!?!"
"WHAAAAT! Are you SURE?????", I said.
"YEP.", he said!!!
And so, we did. The dealership was a ghost town. It was very surreal, only one or two people in the building, no other customers looking at cars. You could hear a pin drop, and every word that we where saying. For instance, everytime the car salesman left to get paperwork: "WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE?!?!?!?! THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END AND WE ARE BUYING A FREAKING CAR, ARE YOU SURE WE SHOULD DO THIS?>??" Upon the salesman's return, ther would be nervous laughing and silly banter, just trying to make things "more real", so to speak. We sat there, went through the paperwork, and bought a new Jeep. Being that the american economy was the way it was back then, I think we did a good thing.
So, on Sept. 11, 2001, I watched the worst terrorist attack on american soil, got fired from my job at mervyn's, and bought a 2001 Jeep Wrangler TJ SE with my husband. THat's where I was and what I did on that day, and it still fells like it happend yesterday, and I think it always will be that way for all of us. Never Forget 9/11.........
-
I was rolling around on my living room carpet, confused why my parents were watching tv about planes crashing into a building. :o
