What are your thoughts on the issue of the Mayan calendar and the 'deadline' of December 21, 2012? ???
-
Oh, no, the Mayans never had the chance to continue on with their calendar project a long, long time ago! It's totally the end of the world on December 21, 2012! :o So scared!
-
There has probably been 50-100 of these threads in the past year.
-
I don't believe it! Every year it's the same thing! Remember once it was the end of the world when 2000 hit! Hey, 11 years later we are still kicking! So I believe its a myth!!
-
The Bible tells you that it can not be predicted. So believe what you want to but I am not buying it.
-
For some reason I thought that was pertaining to a date that had already passed. And now you are saying it is December? Well the last time it was supposed to be the end of the world all the kids in my son's 5th grade class were scared to death. Of course no one knows. It has been predicted over and over. To be right you need to get up everyday and realize that any day could be the day.

***shakes head and walks out of thread, never to open another on this subject***

My thoughts would be.....good grief....why don't these people get a life. And if they are just looking at like numbers why wasn't it 12/12/12 instead of 12/21/12? Their are too many vulnerable people in this world that really go off the deep end about this stuff. :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:
-
Its just another day on the calendar to me. The world has just as much a chance ending tomorrow as it does on December 21, 2012.

The Fact: The Mayan Calendar does not predict the end of the world in 2012
First of all, the Mayans don’t have a calender they have calendars which often interlocked. The calender that has given rise to the myth of the end of the world is the Mayan long count calendar. According to Mayan Mythology, we are living in the fourth world or “creation” so to speak. The last creation ended on 12.19.19.17.19 of the long count calendar. That sequence will occur again on December 20, 2012. According to the Mayans this is a time of great celebration for having reached the end of a creation cycle. It does not mean the end of the world but the beginning of a new “age”. Does the world end every December 31st? No – we go on to a new year. This is the same as the Mayan creation periods. In fact, the Mayans make many references to dates that fall beyond 2012. The idea of 2012 being the end of the world was actually first suggested by New Age religionist José Argüelles in his 1987 book The Mayan Factor: Path Beyond Technology.

Why pay any attention at all to the Mayan calender is what I would like to know. Who put them in charge? :dontknow:

I dont believe it either so it has already been written above the bible does say no one knows when the day will come only God and I have faith in jim so i think it is all wrong.
-
I look forward to it! I'm already having fun from the wild speculations.
-
The end of the world again.

Wait ... "god's" name is Jim? When did this happen?

The end of the world again.
Just another winter solstice but, those long nights can be fun.
-
the world will be overrun by zombies. I am ready to shoot some. I know how to kill them thanks to tv. 2012 zombie appoclypse. cause if the earth just blew up or the sun went super nova that would be boring. but whoreally cares would not have control over any of it, so not worth worrying.
-
what I think that will happen on 12/21/12 is nothing big. people are running scared thinking it is the end, i think it will be a new beginning. If something bad happens is because we will it to be, Our planet is extends of us, we as a people feel her and she feels all of us as one. I think nothing will happen if anything happens i hope we become together without a disaster. I hope the day we stop killing each other. I hope for the day we accept someone of race, religion, sex, sex orientation. But i hope i find my soul mate that day or sooner that will be the most gift i can get.

THE BIBLE???
If the Bible told you to jump of A bridge, would you do it?
If the Bible told you a guy was born via magic then grew up was killed and came back to life three days later but turned water into wine and walked on water before he died would you believe that too?

Does this mean I'm 'shunned' by you, (again), even after a humorous contribution?

My son was born on December 21, 1982. I don't believe that God will take away one of the best gifts I was ever given on the very day that he was given to me. This old world has been through a lot and I believe she still has much life left in her.

So I am reading these posts and some are informative while others are only self appointed opinions. There are many people who believe in the teachings of the bible, as for the Mayan stuff, I can only tell you this... No One knows the end, not even the angels in heaven. There might be a change coming, or maybe the calender ended due to the end of the Mayan survival rate. We do not know only speculate. I am an avid reader of the bible as well as the books of the apocrypha, The main thing God asks of us is to Love one another. Profits were told to record their days during and following Jesus. Some books were added some were left out. Constantine is the one who chose which books remained. Others are reviled in time. What I also know is when you pick up your Bible and begin to read, where ever you start there is a personal message or lesson just for you. It may be only one sentence but it is what you need at that time. For the statements about jumping off a bridge, first off the bible would not tell you to harm yourself so that is an obsolete assessment on belief. If the bible told me to jump off a bridge I would know it was a forgery. Men of self importance will always try to influence others into a false sense of security and doom, it is what gives them power. Look at Y2K. That should have been a lesson to us. If the end is near, hug your loved ones and I'll see ya on the other side. :-)

Some would consider a 'religiously-based' opinion a "self-appointed" one, (since the foundational basis relies upon 'faith', not facts). In this context, the Mayan calendar is indicating the end of a cycle they called "the long count". There were several previous long-count cycles, come and gone without dooming mankind to extinction.

PSSST!!!....**to no one in particular** watch the video at the link I previously posted.

I don't know if anyone else watched it but, I did and the shaman mentioned that his Mayan ancestors did not consider the end of one particular long-count, (this one), any more 'world-ending' than several previous others were.

Thank you, absolutely correct.
So, if anyone is interested in survival/preparedness supplies or gear, my advice would be to wait until after the first of next year to find the real bargains, as everyone else who listened to the hype and were to lazy to verify what they were told, begins to dump tons of goodies on the market. Just as we saw happen after the Y2K non-event.

On 12/21/12 I'll be doing the same things I do every other year. Finishing up the x-mas shopping and maybe enjoying a well-earned cinnamon roll...depending on the time of day of course.

Same old :bs: again.

Same old :bs: again.
What, the whole Mayan 2012 discussion or, something for which the context was omitted?
-
What are your thoughts on the issue of the Mayan calendar and the 'deadline' of December 21, 2012? ???
I think that's when their calendared ended, not the end of the world.

In that case, you'd be incorrect; it's not the end of the Mayan calendar, it's the end of the current "long-count" cycle. There were other prior long-count cycles according to the Mayan calendar and another long-count, (about 5126 years), follows on 12-22-2012.

I don't believe we or anyone else can predict when the "end" will be. We should just focus on the here & now and live the best lives we can.

WHY WORRY ABOUT PROPHACIES FROM A DEAD SOCIETY, AND HOW MANY DOOMSDAY SCENARIOS HAVE WE IN MODERN SOCIETY ctually went through now to absolutly no avail?

FAIL.
If we were discussing dead societies, Mayans would never come up except by someone who is completely devoid of knowledge on the subject.

I doubt it will happan; there was the y2k, rapture, and other end of the world events. What makes 2012 any different from those events.
