:D If you are unable to buy Christmast gifts this year, don't worry about it! A big hug and a kiss with the words " I Love You" is the most precious gift you could ever give to anybody. Because that is something that money can't buy.

There are also alot of places that help out families around the holiday and in tough times like toys for tots and the salvation army. If I was unable to gifts for my family for the holiday I would give them gifts that I made by hand and focus on the items they need not the items they want.

i saved all my glass jars from last year - including
food jars - cleaned them out and used them to
hold homemade rock candy in red and green. i added
some craft ribbon to the top and they turned out
really pretty! we gave them to extended family as
gifts and i think they were appreciated more than
store-bought things.
i probably only had about $10 invested in supplies
and it went a long way! you can never go wrong with
sweets/food ;)

No ... your reply is the biggest load of crap today..... there are many who simply can not afford presents... and we need to realize that there is MORE important things than material things. I hate to see someone go without at least one gift on Christmas so I see nothing wrong with making things with your own hands and giving as a gift ... many times these are the more special and appreciated things especially for older adults. I make a lot of the gifts I give and it comes from my heart. :angel11:

I will be doing more homemade gifts this year. My income is 1/3 of what it was this time last year but my bills are the same as before. It has been a really tight year financially but the Lord has seen to it that our necessities have been met.

I think the homemade gifts are so sentimental and sweet. I love to paint things for my family.
We also like to "adopt" a family and buy gifts for those who are in need of the essentials.
It means so much more to step outside of ourselves and give to those in need.

Let us not forget what the season is about. I know we all became to used to giving and getting Christmas presents, and yes, it is a struggle, I personally wish I didn't have to do all the christmas shopping stuff anymore, it seems to get bigger and bigger and out of control. We need to know that all these things are material and the only gift we will ever need is Jesus. When we die, we can take nothing with us, only our soul. So if you can spread the word about Jesus to someone, you are giving them the only gift they will ever need. I do think people like handmade gifts as well, sometimes we feel not so good about giving them, but I would absolutely Love if my neice made me something, or my son. Because when I receive a gift, I am not thinking bout the actual gift so much as this person put time into this, and that means they was thinking bout me. How awesome is that. My neice got to fingerpaint me a piece of cardboard and my sister put her picture in the middle of it, and put it in a frame, it was the most awesome gift. She was only 2.

I was being facetious. ::)

Yes, I got it that you were being facetious from the "unamerican" comment.

i do agree with you. A hug, kiss, and I love you, is such a great gift. This gift is with a person for the rest of their life. One could even make a little gift book up with these. One for every day of the year. I think that would be cute to go with your suggestions.

I agree that homemade gifts are the best. I love hugs from my kids, it means more than anything they can buy me.

I definitely cannot afford christmas this year :crybaby2: but I can alway make it up next year!

Oh how I wish what your saying was true. My children were devastated last year when I could not buy them gifts last year. They did not understand at all. And when they went to school the other children teased them and called them poor. They came home in tears. I just hope that this site can provide me with enough money to buy gifts this year. Being a mother of eight is not easy.
