Title: working on Sundays & holidays

I am a Christian and personally I don't think it is right to work on Sundays, Christmas, or Easter.  I understand that people have to work, but I think that if someone specifies that they do not feel that it is right on Sundays, Christmas, and Easter then the employer should respect that.  I don't think an employee should be punished or looked down on for not working.  There are people out there that don't feel as strongly as I do and don't care about working no matter what day it is.  As I said, this is just my belief, I like to see what others think about this.  Please respond in respect.  I respect other beliefs as long as mine is respected.  :angel11:

I will try to reply to this as 'respectfully' as possible. This is absurd and ridiculous, period. If that is how you feel, possibly how other christians feel, create your own company and then you have the absolute 'right' to not work on those days. You are NOT special because you are a christian and you should NOT be catered to based on what you happen to believe. When did the 'employee' start dictating how the 'employer' (who signs the paycheck) runs the business, because that is what this sounds like? I guess I missed that memo..... :confused1:

Well, I'm not a Christian and I don't like working on Sunday/Christmas either. lol. If it's part of the job I've taken, I work when I'm scheduled and don't complain. Maybe for someone who doesn't like working Sundays and Holidays a government job would be good. Also I know my mom works in an office and they have week-ends and holidays off. So, maybe it would be best to change jobs rather than be worried or upset all the time. There's a right fit for everyone. :fish:

OK, maybe I wasn't clear in what I was saying.  On applications, it says specify the days, and times you are available to work.  I know from working at different places that when people fill out the applications and state that they cannot work on Sundays, Christmas, Easter, or any other religious holidays for that matter. They are not even considered.  I have also seen where they put that they can work all the other days and holidays day or night.  Their applications were tossed aside because they were not flexible.  I mean seriously?  Wouldn't that be on the borderline of discrimination if the person who's application was tossed out because they wouldn't work on religious holidays and Sundays? Anyway, that is just my opinion. Hope everyone has a great day!  :angel11:

They are looking for people to work specific times. If you are saying you're not going to be flexible enough to work the hours they need then they are going to find someone that will. That's not discrimination. I was lucky enough to have a boss that was willing to let me have most Sunday offs and usually if I did have to work Sunday it was in the afternoon so I could attend church

If someone is against working those days they should not take a job that requires working on those days.  And they should not expect any employer to accommodate them.  They hire you to work when they need you to work.  I work in an industry that runs 356 days a year, holidays, weekends, nights you name it.  Before they hire anyone they tell you that you will be working holidays and weekends accept it and be prepared to work those days or maybe that isn't the job for you.

As a Christian I don't believe you should have to work on Sunday's or Christian holidays .... but  .... I do believe you have to provide for your family and if that is required of you to keep your job I do think you should work.... pray about it and God will give you direction and maybe even a better job so you don't have to work those days.  I don't believe you will be condemned for it but it would be nice if you could be in church on Sunday.

That's all I was saying. If you apply for a job that requires Sunday and Holidays then expect to work them. I know I have had to be specefic about hours before because of my kids, and perhaps it cost me a few jobs but it's what I thought was right. Just as I am not going to miss out on my kids' lives for a job, perhaps you should set the same standards, and if you miss out on a few, well, they weren't jobs you really wanted anyway.  :fish:

I would say that if there are certain days that you don't wish to work, you shouldn't complete an application that asks what days you're available.  If the application has a question that indicates that the job would interfere with you're beliefs, it's best to walk away.  The job would not be a good fit for you nor you for the job.
