If you can afford a coach or tutor, get one! The importance of these tests (the SAT and/or ACT) cannot be underestimated. It is the difference between Community College and Ivy League. Someone who has taken the test or written questions for it is invaluable to a new test taker. Just my advice. I went to State but got a 29 on my ACTs. If it's extremely important you or your parents should shell out the cash for a qualified tutor. :cat:

I think a SAT prep book would be sufficient enough as long as you look through it and take it seriously. It helps to get familar with the types of questions you will be asked and general tips on taking the test.

If you can't take a class to prepare you get a book and take the practice tests. I'm sure there are also plenty of forums and info online you can find. Brush up on the subjects you are not strong in. If math is not your best subject practice more math. It's been many moons since I took the SAT so I don't know how much it changed. When I took it I only remember having verbal and math and the high score was 1600. My high school offered a prep class so I took that and it helped me. I also took Latin and it also helped me with vocabulary because of the roots of English words is based in Latin.

Your public library should definitely have the 2011 or 2012 Edition of the SAT Practice Book. They don't usually lend them out, but if you're willing to spend some time studying it'd be a good chance to get out of the house!
If you aren't up for that option, you could always look up SAT practice tests online. They would help you get basic information for it and show the difficulty level of it.
Hope this helps!

As others have stated, take the practice tests - the more prepared before hand, the more prepared you'll feel the day of and be better able to focus during the test. Be sure you get enough sleep in the days leading up to the test - try to stay stress free and eat healthy, drink plenty of water - this way you'll be feeling good the day of the test and not be battling fatigue.
Another tool I stumbled upon looking for things to help my sister with home schooling her kids is the following site:
The Kahn Academy: http://www.khanacademy.org/
Scroll down near the bottom of the page and there is a whole series of videos where they review every question on a standard SAT test and how to arrive at the solution. The whole site is free - several teacher friends of mine highly recommend it as a great supplemental tutorial.
Good luck to you!
