Title: Home made jar gifts
Post by: mawhite63 on December 18, 2011, 05:26:43 am
Has anyone done this? Money is super tight this year so I'm doing jar gifts for everyone. Even these can be a bit expensive. I went shopping yesterday and got all the supplies, and I'm going to be doing them all afternoon today after I get my housework done.

I'm doing:
- Cinnamon Pancake Mix
- Raisin & Brown Sugar Oatmeal Mix
- Different bread mixes
- Different sugar body scrubs

Has anyone else done these? I've been googling pictures of them to get ideas and some look really pretty.

I did that one year for my co-workers.  I done Chocolate Chip cookies.  The girls I worked with were completely surprised and excited.  Hope your gifts go over as well.

My sister gave me a jar with cookie mix in it and I enjoyed it very much. I thought of her as I made the cookies and again when I ate them. YUM!

put popouri and a short string of christmas lights inside a jar with a fabric of your choice as a lid, plug in the lights and the warmth of the lights will scent the popouri plus the lights gives up a nite light.

What a wonderful idea! I used to make these long ago, but have become really lazy these past years. It is such a buzz when you make the gifts and again when you see the delight on the recipients' faces when they realize that you have taken time with their gift. Well done! I hope they're blown away!  :notworthy:

That is a great idea.  There are tons of recipes on the web for making them.

I used to make home made gift jars years ago. I did a lot of canning so I would crochet covers to go over the lids and give jellies and jams as gifts. People loved them.

Well I managed to get three done yesterday LOL! It took about an hour just to get the Avery software for the tags installed, then my printer jammed up on the card stock paper, then I realized I hadn't checked the ink levels so I needed to get a new cartridge. Too funny! But after all that, the three that are done look super pretty and I'll bang out a bunch of them later on this afternoon. They are really fun to make. I have about 10 different sites bookmarked.

This sounds so pretty!

thanks for all the replies!

printing Avery labels seems to prolong many of my projects too.

I just finished making a 7 bean soup from a gift jar. very handy gift to have on hand. One of these years I will do those gifts too. While they can be less expensive than a trip to the mall, they do require planning and time to assemble.
