Everybody is disabled...one way or the other!

Not sure what you mean by 8 months, but good luck to you. It took me over 2yrs to qualify to recieve disability benefits from social security. Hang in there, don't give up.

Maybe batmobile means 8 months till court hearing. I wish ya good luck it took me a total of 7 years to get SSD. It also depends on the state you live in on how long it takes or how easy it is to get. I was in FL during my years of fighting for it. It was very hard facing rejection after rejection until I went before Judge and got accepted.

some illnesses and diseases automatically qaulify you for benefits. i am legally blind and mine went through in 7 months..and sence ive became disabled, i've discovered other health issues

It took my husband about 8 months to get his disability - after five back surgeries, spinal fusion, tumors in bottom of his foot, drop foot (no control over movement of foot). We had to get a lawyer. I did all of the leg work for the lawyer & then he took 1/3 of my husband's backpay. The thought of lawyers puts a sour taste in my mouth.

If you are absolutely sure, and have proof of the 1/3 taken by the attorney, he/she has broken the law set down by the S.S.A. If anyone is represented by an attorney in order to win their disability case, the government has a formula in place that can NOT be deviated from. They are allowed [under this law] to take 25% of the past due benefits you receive up to a maximum of $5,300.00. An attorney absolutely cannot deviate from this and cannot take a third of your husband's back pay.
If I were you, I would be looking into this ASAP! Far too many get discouraged over long waits for a judge's decision, backed up court dockets, mounting medical and/or living costs, and are simply glad to have it all over and done with. To dishonest attorneys that becomes a great opportunity to take more because they figure the client is fed up with the process and happy just to get the $$$. If you have all your ducks in a row, as far as the case/court documentation, actual bills and proof of more than 25% or the $5,300.00 limit, you can send a written complaint with all details to:

If you would rather start at the state level, look up your state's S.S.A. office or Attorneys General number and give them a call first. They will also direct you as to what you can and need to do next. Reading this makes me furious! I have advocated for 1000's of my patients (after filling out my lengthy documentation re diagnosis/treatment/expected longterm outcome, umpteen phone calls) in order to help them and their families with disability filings, so I am NO stranger to how this process works. I read this and grabbed my file out of my office here at home - while grumbling and mumbling about our screwy systems here... :angry7:

:wave: it took me only 6-7 months to get disability. of course i was truely disabled. i was unable to walk at all. i have seen so many people able to work draw disability including members of my family that it makes me sick. i broke my neck at 21 was paralysed with no movement for about 6 months then slowly recovered it took 8 more months in hospital, then another 18 months of out-patient therapy. i could walk but i could not run. i had a slight limp to my gait. i was off-balace. i had back pain daily yet i returned to the work force for about 27 years. i could have stayed on disability and taken away from those who really are disabled as i am now but i did not. the problem so many people who could truly do some type of work would rather take dsiability than work. i am right now exploring training to return to some type of meaningful work. i am in pain everyday setting at home feeling sorry for myself drawing disability is not going to stop my suffering so why not be a productive member of society. so others who are really disabled can may get livable benefits instead of those who have just aches and pains being leeches on society. if you are truley disabled i hope you receive the benefits you worked and paid for. good luck and have a nice day!!!!

I have no problem with the people recieving ssd when they need it, and i know there a lot out there. Thank God i don't right now. My problem is all of those out there that do not need it, but are just too lazy or greedy to work, while those that do need it are having to spend good money that they could put too better use then on lawyers to get what is proably owed them.

I am on disability now. I was so sick and still had to fight so hard for disability. It's a process I wish people did not have to go threw. I am grateful for the money each month otherwise I would probley not be typing this now.
