The Mayan calendar runs out December 2012 and there is speculation that the world is going to end or change dramatically. What are your thoughts?

The first thing that comes to mind is that the Mayan calendar doesn't run out, the most recent long-count cycle ends on winter solstice and a new long-count cycle begins without interruption. Even the Gregorian and Chinese calendars don't "end"; they just move into a new cycle of months. Second thought; the Mayan calendar hasn't been in usage lately, (then again, neither have Sumarian or Aegyptian calendars). Is that significant?

My Windows calendar goes well past 2012. Proof enough for me we'll survive past 2012. Has Bill Gates ever been wrong?

I hope not... I still have a lot of travelling I want to do. But, if it does end, at least we'll all go together and we'll be able to keep each other company in the next phase of our souls' journey. :)

I believe the world has already been changing drastically, just look around....all working to be the end of the times, read the Bible instead of a calender you might learn alot more...just saying :D

No. There are more pressing issues to consider than thinking about the world ending for some unknown reason. It would be more pertinent to consider what humans are doing to the earth and the impact we have. If the world does happen to end, it will be because of us, and it will not occur in December of this year.

I'm more worried about random neighborhood killings, drunk and/or hit and run drivers than the end of the world 2012 prediction.

The Mayan Calender doesn't count leap years so technically it has already ended and somebody forgot to tell us- :0 But beyond that, when Jesus left to get our homes ready he said that even he didn't no the presise time, so I doubt that the Mayans had been clued in- but we are to be ever watchful, and live each day as if it may be our last, because we are not promised tomorrow.

I don't understand the big concern over "is the world going to end in 2012" (or any other year for that matter)...if it ends, that will settle things. If it doesn't...it doesn't mean everyone is guaranteed to live to the end of another year.
People die all the time of all ages and many deaths are "unexpected"... no one gets out of this world alive no matter what the calendar says. It's ironic how so many people are stressing over 2012's "end of the world" when NO ONE is guaranteed their next breath. :-

In the Bible, it says no one knows the end of the world, but when it does end, it will happen like a thief in the night. If someone knows a thief is coming, they will be ready for him and the thief probably won't come in....no one knows when it will end but God.

Hate to break this to you but the bible is a work of fiction. It has nice stories and a lot can be learned from it in terms of being a good person. However, you must realize that... THE BIBLE IS NOT AN ENCYCLOPEDIA!

Just like religion there are somehow different interpretations of the mayan calender. I personally feel that anyone who thinks the world is going to end this december should be put in a mental institution.

Hey Hey Hey Not till I get to Vegas then let it do whatever it wants....lol...Nah I doubt it people have been saying that for years. I think its just something made up to keep us interested and talking, the BIG MILLENNIUM/Y2K never happened the year 2000 went by just like every other you had your problems but nothing major.

I like that. I don't believe the world will end; however, I believe things will change as they have been changing. We see that everyday on the news.

As told in Bible scriptures..."the end" which means "end of the age". You can't deny the world's changing...socially, economically, sightings in the skies, etc. I know in my gut somethings's coming soon. Just not sure what the first big one will be. :fish: :wave: :angel11:

but i do believe that there's going to be alot of changing going on just like in the bible. not being able to tell the difference in the seasons for example. i believe part of it has already started cause look, winter was hardly winter this year and spring is feeling more and more like summer. open your eyes and pay attention to some of the things going on, even the small things like what i just mentioned are worth paying attention to. ;)

Weather patterns are cyclical, (not 'biblical'). The current general patterns have occured previously. They will again. Evidence of this exists in almanacs, tree rings, fossils and memories of old folks.

if the world is going to end should i still do surveys here or just forget about it . didn't god create the devil so why does he supposedly have so much power couldn't he just smash him like an ant.

I know this for a fact. I run out of a calendar about once a year an all I do is start another one. And about the only thing I am sure of that is going to end in December is the debate over what will happen when the mayan calendar is finished. One way or another the debate will be over and we can move onto the next rumor to end the world. The best way to deal with it is lets have a global party starting the day before and just party for the next two days and when its all done we can say we survived the the party. Thank you a Y2k party survivor.

If the world is going to end then everybody who bought bunkers and stuff like the Doomsday Preppers have wasted a lot of their time. lol

Only thing I know for sure is that the debate over whether the world is gonna end this december is gonna end one way or the other. So my suggestion is to do the same thing I did for the Y2k end of the world and that is to party like with world is gonna end than you can say you survived another world ending party. :wave: Sincerly a Y2k party survivor.

That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
So I think the more people are talking about the end and expecting it to come,the less likely it will happen in the near future.

According to the Bible, no one knows. According to Mayans yes. My opinion is no! If the world is ending its because of our own stupidity. If it ends like in the movie Melancholia, I can't say that I am freaked out. People are so selfish, greedy and just plain thoughtless. I just ask that the end of the world be painless. I wish we could all start over, wipe out credit scores, erase past mistakes and make everyone equal. Or separate the people that consistently cause harm to the world putting them on a Mars with a pseudo-ecosystem while the remaining people clean up the mess and try to make this planet better.

There is only one thing for sure........... If the world does not end in December; another date will surely be set! Someone will come up with a "brilliant" excuse and just set another date! Now that is something you can bet money on! It is a sure thing! :bs:

I guess the bottom line is that if the world ends on Dec 21 we won't be around on Dec 22 to know if they were right anyway ... ;)

I respect everyones opinion, but everyday someones world ends (sad to say). And we are extinguishing our own kind. People killing eachother, rapes, kidnapping, traffic on human life, children, mothers.That to counts as the end of the world for just one person. I believe in everything u can imagine, but when you're time runs out, you're out. Just live you're life like there's no tommorrow :thumbsup:

I have no DOUBT in my mind that the world will end, but i'm not going to believe 1000 year old astronomers who may/may not have ties with aliens (if they exist) that the world will end on their "watch" hehheh ....watch get it??? :dontknow:

I don't think so...and from the most recent discoveries and closer looks at the Mayan calendar...it doesn't say it will end. The calendar just stops. I think that the Mayan's just got tired of writting the calendar and decided that since they probably wouldn't be around they figured that someone else could pick up where they left off. The world will end some day, but noone, but God, knows when. So I say live your lives and enjoy yourselves and be as good as you can be. :female:

My concerns are more on if I will have a regular paying job come December then on if the world will come to an end. If something like that was to happen, why worry about it? Can't do anything to stop it.
