Title: in the dark
Post by: Gerianne on April 23, 2012, 07:21:11 am
Are you able to do things in the dark?
Can you see what you are doing or use your other senses?
Feel free to share some stories.

i used to look around my room while it was night time and i was lying in my bed. i have always been somewhat afraid of ghosts or ghosts being in my house so i make sure they arent around before i go to bed.

I find that if I close my eyes, I can hear things better. Example: trying to find the location a bird is singing from.  Or trying to distinguish notes in a song.  Sight is a distraction.  :bootyshake:
As far as navigating my environment, my other senses are not so great.  Wish I had what is it that bat's have sonar?  I might like that with my site as an extra sense.  I tend to bump into things even with my eyes open.  I'm not very spatially aware.
although my sense of touch is better with my eyes closed.  As a massage therapist, I can usually feel areas of tension better both in my own body and others when I close my eyes. Of course it would be inappropriate to keep my eyes closed for the whole massage.  ;D

I can get around pretty good in the dark. Without my glasses I am pretty much blind as a bad so when I had lost my classes or didn't have them on for whatever reason it might as well be dark out! I will say I've gotten pretty good at changing diapers in the dark - both without glasses and quite literally the night!

I prefer being in the dark, I find it relaxing. I always shower in the dark.

Well depends how dark, if there's some light I can, but if it's pitch dark, I need a light!

I'm able to do things in the dark if I'm familiar with my surroundings like in my apartment. I actually prefer to keep my lights dim. I usually use a candle when I shower. The light just seems to bright.

I can see pretty well in the dark. I dojust fine in familar surrondings, but in a total new environment I think I would have trouble.
Usually the senseof  hearing becomes stronger.

I will do things in the dark if I have to. When I took a course on photography, the students are required to properly take out a roll of film and insert into a film reel inside a pitch dark room. It may seem difficult to do at first. I like the challenge and was determined to get it right each time. It was actually good to experience how it is like to live in the dark world of the blind.

Once my eyes adjust I can find my way around if I'm in a familiar setting. Otherwise I'm pretty useless. My night vision is terrible. I hate driving at night especially.

I have a very hard time driving in the dark otherwise I do fairly well.  I require total darkness to sleep.  Hubby likes the tv on at night but I can not sleep with it on..... the flashing light drives me nuts!
